I bought a Mamiya 645 Super recently and did some dslr scans of the first roll of negatives. It seems hitting focus is more difficult than I though, especially with the aperture wide open, but here are the ones that turned out quite okay

Yeah, nah. It's cure that you shrug it off like that but I would still like to know if you really think these are good photos.
You're not completely new to the board and even though I don't really remember what you've posted before I feel like you should know better.

I've been here on and off for ...6 years or so?
Anyway I just shot this roll walking around my back yard basically, I never expected anything great from it. This board if for photos though, so here they are.
I went somewhere a bit more interesting recently, so the next lot will be better :)

Salvation Army takes donations, too, but that doesn't mean they're happy about it when you bring a dump truck full of empty potato chip bags and dirty diapers and dirt and drop it on their loading dock.
Photography is a process where people take a lot of photos, and then pick their best ones to show to people. What is gained by you, or anyone here, by the sharing of photos where even the guy taking them has no interest in them?
>>2813384
What is gained by your inert pussyboi stance?
>>2813387
Once you've finished your trawl through the camera's manual, almost every improvement you make in your artistic process is a mental one. Learning how to approach your art is one of the basics. Learning how to display it is another.
Some of the most incredible photographers to have ever lived shot hundreds of thousands of photos, and shared less than 500. Posting bad photos doesn't make you a photographer, and there really aren't any people out in the world who are so starved for photos that they're desperate to see whatever you happen to shit out in an afternoon. Adding a simple step of "Do I believe that people would care to see this photo?" to your process can improve your work dramatically, especially if you continuously find that the answer is "no" and strive to change that.
So hopefully, a mental shift and therefore personal artistic growth is to be gained. Not to mention the side benefit of hopefully getting another person on the board who realizes that posting 10 bad photos is not better than posting zero photo, and can in fact be worse, because it lowers the overall quality of the board in general by drowning out good photos with more and more clutter and noise.

What happened to you today? I know that sometimes I like to be a bit of a dick when I've had a bad day too. Did someone make fun of your camera? Did you post some images on 500px/Instagram/Flickr and get no favourites/followers?

Anybody want to actually rebut? or are we enjoying being children riding by on our big-wheels throwing rocks at people who suggest that trying and "growth" in our chosen hobby are somehow a good thing, and that it might not be enough to just buy the equipment and spin in a circle while pressing the shutter button and then putting up the results in order to call ourselves artists?
Why is the idea of "you should put more thought into your photos, and add value to the community by posting good photos and not posting empty photos" so inflammatory to people like you?
>>2813394
I'm probably the only one who's going to agree with you. You're not alone.

I didn't decide anything. Here it is from the OP himself:
>Anyway I just shot this roll walking around my back yard basically, I never expected anything great from it. This board if for photos though, so here they are.
>I went somewhere a bit more interesting recently, so the next lot will be better :)
> can you do that, you schizo shit?
Of course I could. How would that help the OP of this thread to grow in his personal journey?
Also, it may seem like a novel concept, but rather than merely thinking of /p/ as a series of posts to either upvote, or downvote, I frequently try to post my own photos. You should try trying some time.

>>2813425
Can and could are the same tense. You meant to ask "will you do it" rather than "can you do it" and apparently never had an annoying teacher in fourth grade who would reply to "Can I go to the bathroom" with "I don't know, can you?"
But no, I won't do that, because that brings my personal taste into the mix, which isn't relevant. The OP himself dismissed his photos as bland and "test roll" quality, which prompted the response.
>>2813323
Just put it into liveview and zoom on the subject. Focusing will be a cakewalk.
>>2813423
I'm sure you've never posted a picture that you weren't sure if it was good or not on here, especially after you got new gear that you were excited about right mr. master curator?
>>2813415
Because this boards problem isn't too many bad photos, and not enough good ones.
This board has too many text posts, and not enough photography.
>>2813440
>>>/instagram/
>>2813440
Nobody can be shooting all day every day. If all you want to do is look at photos, you shouldn't be on a primarily text board where you can also put a picture up next to the text if you want to. Discussing photography and chasing growth and improvement are why most people are here (ostensibly). In order to get better, you must discuss, think, and grow. Machine gunning your shutter button will do nothing but wear out your gear.
>>2813437
I've posted many photos that I wasn't sure about. I've never posted a photo I was sure was bad, because what would be the point? What does my audience gain from seeing a photo I took, when the only reason I took the photo was to play with my equipment?
Would a writer send a file to a publisher when the file is full of gibberish created as he's testing a new keyboard?
Would a singer put a song on iTunes for sale when the file is nothing but him making beep beep noises to check to see if his new microphone is working?
The answer is (and should be) no.
>>2813443
OP never said his pictures were bad, he said he wasn't expecting anything great. They aren't great, but for me personally, they aren't really bad either
>Would a writer send a file to a publisher when the file is full of gibberish created as he's testing a new keyboard?
>Would a singer put a song on iTunes for sale when the file is nothing but him making beep beep noises to check to see if his new microphone is working?
bad allegories, as those are both done in a professional context, unlike here where OP is sharing pictures with anonymous strangers on a Kazachian Yam appreciation forum
>>2813443
>Discussing photography and chasing growth and improvement are why most people are here (ostensibly).
Not you, though. You're here to make *others* improve. You're already there. A master.
>>2813447
Replace publisher and iTunes with "a group of his peers for consumption and/or review"
The answer is the same.

Lol, maybe if you have no creative-minded friends and don't know anything about that.
You probably rage about musicians jamming when they're bored, too.
>>2813452
Why would I be trying to improve in some other guy's photo thread? Or are you implying that someone who isn't #1 in his field and a complete master can't suggest that posting every photo you take that isn't grossly out of focus is not a great approach?

Friendly reminder that the only way to browse /p/ is to ignore all text posts, ignore all snapshits and only post photos. Only 1 out of 100 posts you make should be text. The 99 other posts should be curated as fuck. Who cares if it's a dead board or not.
