buy several good lenses (whatever equivalent is to my 18-35mm 1.8 sigma, 50mm 1.8 canon, 70-200mm 4.0 L IS canon) instead of using the terrible kit lens.
buy light stands, umbrellas and off-camera flashes so you actually learn lighting instead of shooting natural light where 90% of shots are boring and flat, though the 10% where the natural-light is interesting are still great.
know all relationships between F-stop (add depth of field + extra light), Shutter speed (freeze motion and hand-shaking, sacrificing light) and ISO (gain light, but gain noise, so kick it up when you need a combination of shorter shutter speeds and images without tiny DoF from a wide-open F-stop)
If you see cheap film, never "leave some for everyone else."

Stop/don't buying broken film cameras.
Talk to the photography teacher and get him to put you into Photo 2. You can skip Photo 1 if you just talk to him and show him your work, but you will still need to take Art 2D your Freshman year. Photo 2 will show you how to develop film so you can nail that job at the camera store where you've always wanted to work. You'll be spending the last year and a half or so of your high school years at a charter, so get that done before the end of Junior year.
When the A7 comes out, don't get it.
Fujifilm will stop making both FP-3000B and FP-100C, and they will both go up by $20 or so after it.
Get a roll of Kodachrome in before it gets discontinued.

On the subject - I just developed my first roll of fp4+ in Rodinal and I'm blown away. Seriously, I fucking love how it came out. On the other side I noticed that I need to wash the whole negative one more time while I was scaning it.
Shoot film, manual everything, one lens, develop it yourself, and stick to one subject.
Also reading Ansel Adams' trilogy is 1000x more useful than anything you'll find on YouTube.

Even the original 7D is a far superior camera than the 500D. It has the next gen sensor, and from a feautures and construction point of view is still a beast of a camera.
The only thing wrong with the Canon 18MP sensor is that they put it in rabals and made it for so long; that seems to be as strong as arguments against it get.

My ex was a cosplayer and I did 20+ shoots a year with her for almost 5 years, so yeah, I have thousands of photos of her. Some of those photos got a ton of circulation and recognition, too, so I'm not just going to delete them all or anything.
