My Ex dragged my to a P!nk concert some years ago, and put me on camera duty. Managed to get right in the middle of the stage and pull off some decent shots, only problem is that I didn't have a proper camera at the time so expect 2012 smartphone camera shittiness.

Get one of those flash diffusers and get some nice lighting in there. 1/50 at iso 6400 is far from ideal, and if they're not performing you're alright to use a nice diffused flash (use tupperware if you've n'en else)

and to answer your question: I think you should be fine. If you use their native lenses autofocus should be pretty good, if not - you can oversharpen the picture and focus by eye or use the somewhat lousy peaking function. If you shoot people who stand around you should have no problems, it might get slightly hairy if people move a lot. Even then, with practice you should be able to nail it.
+ in regards to the battery life:
you can set up the cam to manually change between the EVF and the back display. If you set it to the EVF and you do not have any object in front of the viewfinder it will be turned off along with the back display, so you can save tons of battery while you are moving around or changing lenses.

Never done any concert photography before. How hard is it to get the lighting right inside a club venue? I have a full frame camera and a 50mm lens. There's a metal festival in my area next month and they're charging separately for the outdoor parking lot stage and the two indoor venues. I'm a poorfag and that's like $120 in a single day if I want access to all three stages. I think I'll get the best photos from the outdoor stage since it's easier to work with natural light. But I literally don't care about any of those bands playing. One of the indoor venues have two bands I want to see, but I don't know if it's worth getting shitty photos because I have no experience shooting in the kind of lighting condition.

So many venues use those damn automated light systems that change without rhyme or reason (the ones that are keyed off of the music are a little better if you're familiar with the band's music) that your exposure might easily be fucked in the amount of time it takes you to press in the shutter button. This is one of those kinds of shoots where I'm all about shooting far, far more than you think you'll need and then culling the fuck out of them.

Exactly, at this venue I shoot for I often get back with 4-5-600 pics only to select 40 of them. Having: 3 projectors pointing at the band, random lights and 5-6 people on stage (while trying to make sure no one looks retarded) can add a no. of variables impossible to count with. It doesn't mean you should just go there and shoot aimlessly - without proper composition and connection with the band/audience they will all be crap. Find a good composition and then shoot in bursts (if needed)

It's not just xtrans, the issue is it's only one color of light, so 3/4 of your photo-sites aren't doing anything, and so when normally, adjusting exposure and color would adjust the balance in tones and intensity of multiple channels, in that situation, you're working with a lot less information, and things behave badly. Stuff stays clipped, and in stead of pulling back, just gets dim and gray, etc.
I shoot shows with both Canon and Fuji, and the stuff I think you're talking about happens on both.

Shooting even shit bands keeps your skills honed sharp. Also, because they're shit bands, you don't risk much by experimenting with angles, perspective, etc..hell, have fun and shoot the crowd and turn it into a game of making the show look more exciting than it was.
Third point, if you want passes to shoot the big shows, it helps to build a body of work, and playing around with small gigs is a great way to do it (especially if you experiment and it pays off...)..

Three, it exposes me to music I wouldn't otherwise listen to, and have started to listening to bands I never heard of because their music was so good, but wouldn't of know if I didn't go to that show.

Awesome lens! Wish Rokinon made a focal length longer than 135mm. My next two lens will be from Rokinon, their 85mm and their 135mm. I'm not a fan of zoom lens, but that's just my personal preference.

Well, first of all, don't shoot at 1/1000 of a second. Lower your shutter speed, lower your ISO and open up the aperture on your 85 1.8 a bit. A lower ISO will also give you more leeway in processing your RAW images, especially when boosting shadows.

this is what I did, also changed the point curve to medium but couldn't fit that in the photo
as others said, lower iso + lower shutter +narrower aperture and you'll be prime. you composed that shot well enough and it's a good moment to capture. non-generic performing shots are always good
post-process is literally almost as important as shooting. concert photos don't look THAT good unedited. idk. you get it.

I didn't do anything different here BUT a tip for black and white is to adjust the temperature. not many people do that but it can change a shot up for the better.
