lol, thats some eastern europe levels of destroyed. great job, basketballers.
>>
This is what happens when you have a criminal followed by a basketball player as mayor. Stupid fucks.
>>
Everybody should post their favorite pictures of Detroit. I prefer it this way.
>>
I live there! I could tell you stories about watching city fires from the top of the abandoned train station, getting chased to the roof by cops and eluding them. We used to go inside a whole lot of huge abandoned buildings there until people finally got sick of more kids from the suburbs coming into the city and going into the buildings. I used to know people who have been shot and stabbed.

An older image taken that almost cost me my life.

what's the story?
>>
Andrew Moore did a decent series on Detroit. Henk Van Rensbergen and Ian Ference have too, IIRC. It's slightly above ruin porn but they do test their limits at times...
>>
>>2807828
The story on the pic of the skyline? Nothing serious. Could have possibly been hit by a car going 60mph because my dumb ass was just la-de-daa walking on a one-lane freeway overpass.
>>
>>2807822
Another story from me!

A few years ago, a few friends of mine were doing a photo tour in the Packard Plant.

They strayed from the group and went down a hallway.

Before they knew it, some guy had a sawed-off shotgun pointed at their faces. They both had no choice but to hand over their Nikon d70s, D80s,, Lenses and gear. This was back when they were $1200 cameras.
>>
>>2807618
That was... disappointing.
>>
>>2807822
seems like a cool city, id like to go there some day but i feel like the only people who have a good thing to say about the city are photographers and filmakers, everyone else is "b-but youll get robbed by black people"
>>

Man Danny brown's lyrics are pretty accurate
>And where I lived, it was house, field, field
>Field, field house
>Abandoned house, field, field
>>
>>2808609
It's a shame that's one of the weakest tracks on the album
>>
I've always been morbidly drawn to Detroit and the scale of urban decay it has experienced but there is pretty much no way I would actually shoot there unless I was carrying a .50 Desert Eagle and AK47.

I've driven through many times though and its depressing.
>>
>>2808976

Motherfucker, you're Detroit in human form.
>>
>>2809042

But that's impossible because I'm not a Democrat, I'm white and have a job that pays well.
>>
>>2809055
REKTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

HOHHHHHHHHH SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEiT ANON GOT FUCKING BURNT SON
>>
>>2809055
>breaks foot driving truck
>drowns broken $80 nikon in florida swamp
>>
>>2809055

You're an abject failure who cpnstantly brings up any past accomplishments you may have had, you've got more square footage than you can manage, and you look like you smell like shit.
>>
I'm not from America so I have little idea about Detroit, but what happened to it? How does a 'city' go bankrupt? Couldn't the government bail them out like they did with bankers?
>>
>>2810181
The whole city's economy was based around production of American cars. Then, American cars started sucking so dramatically that nearly everyone stopped buying them. Production slowed, jobs were lost, factories were shut down, and a whole city lost its income. People who could move away moved away. People who couldn't, stayed and remained poor and angry.
>>
>>2810181
You should watch various people's documentation about why Detroit failed.

US levels of not giving a shit on a national level and corruption can approach mind-blowing levels without the pot really boiling over.

Well, if it was safe, this would be an urbex photo paradise...
>>
The best thing about Detroit is that it is 2.5 hours away from Grand Rapids.
>>
>>2809984
Funny thing, Detroit Public Schools actually has more debt than the city had before filing bankruptcy.
>>
>>2808964
it's alright, EWNESW is worst for me
>>
>>2810185
You're leaving out one key aspect to Detroit's bankruptcy: unions.

The biggest single liability they had was massive union pensions. The entire city was basically an experiment in what would happen if every single individual was unionized for every single job, no matter how big or small. When the city was rolling in dough, it wasn't an issue because you could keep promising more and more and more and expect the money to always be there when you got down the road, but then when the city economy crashed because of the auto industry, the city itself had no tax revenue coming in. The problem was, though, that they were still tied to insane union demands that were unsustainable at that point.
>>
>>2811079
I'm not sure about the whole city, but I remember hearing that most of the auto-plant union members who were laid off were still guaranteed something like 80% of their working salary.
>>
>>2811083
Yeah, it was essentially the same for all city employees. They had bizarre perks, too, like an extra 13th month pension paycheck each year and crazy shit like that.
