With crop it's equivalent to 27mm-52.5mm.

I don't remember where to find his shots, but I remember thinking that it was mostly just meh, like the billion and one other people out there with cameras who at least know the basics of composition and how to operate the camera.

Honestly, the review isn't nearly as bad as you make it out to be. However, this lens isn't meant for photographing your friend in broad daylight, or even for street photography. It's mean for lowlight situations, such as concert photography on a crop sensor camera. That's where he fucks up.
