What color would be black people in infrared?
Any good guides on how to start with Infrared photography?
>>2797188
Anybody with IR Pics at night? I want to know if it looks like actual nigh vision goggles.
Also you can play with IR lasers and illuminators.
>>2797887
it's near IR and looks loke just boring BnW night photo.

Buy 720nm IR filter, either get a camera that nas a weak ir cut filter in it (older ones and point and shoots tend to be more lenient) and make 3-15s exposures with that or replace the camera's fiter as per millions of online guides or send it somewhere that does. 850nm filters give a BW, very outlandish look. Also longer exposure times required. 720nm will let some visible red light through, most ir images you see are via a 720 with the red channel changed to something more showy like teal or blue.
I started with a canon PowerShot570i and a diy ir filter from 3 pieces of overexposed C41 film with 4sec exposures in full sunlight at iso100. 3 pieces give more of a 850nm look, 2 pieces let more red through, nearer the 720 one. Experiment with shittier cameras before converting something expensive/useful.

Common misconception. NV sees IR light but it also sees visible. It just amplifies existing light, if you're not using an IR illuminator. A modern DSLR with a fast lens wide open and max iso b/w converted to greenscale(is that even a word) instead of grayscale will look 100% what a nv shot looks like. Same with ir photos with the channels switched to only display shades of green.
It's green b/c of the phospholuminescent material they used in older NVs, it's not a rule that nv must be green.
Actually, just went out to try infrared for the first time. I don't know what the fuck I'm doing. Color balance got totally messed up. Too much movement in the trees. Advice please.
Hoya R72 filter.

Yes, I even made a crude step by step on a flickr for a friend - here it is, along with a few test snapshits, all taken with a tripod, 3-13s. The point and shoot's optics have a different focusing point for IR and for visible light, thus most came out blurry, and kn the 720nm equivalent two-layer filter you can see objects in redscale focused correctly and the ir-reflecting plantlife being blurry. Stopping the aperture down helped but increased exposure times.

Fully exposed (taken out of the canister in full sunlight) c41 film, when developed, lets ir through. You'll obviously get a larger filter diameter with 120 film. I used Kodak ColorPlus 200, dunno about other films. It's not much cheaper than just buying a used ir filter on ebay, mind you.

Wish there was more detail in the structure. It looks muddy and a bit gross. Love the colors and tones, and the swishy trees though.

IR photos always fascinated me. I read somewhere that Pentax has weaker IR cut filter in their cameras for who knows what. Maybe it's to improve the natural colors?
But I just checked it with liveview and the TV remote and the IR led lights up!
I can do IR photos without converting my K-3 although with longer exposures!
My question is, what are the differences between IR filters? Apart from the wavelength range, I know what that means.
How the differences show up in actual photos?
Please take this seriously, I'm hyped as fuck over it.
>>2799556
>differences between IR filters
Brand vs unbrander or 590nm vs 720nm?
>>2799592
Well I meant the different wavelength filters, but seeing the price differences I'd like to know the brand vs cheap chinese difference.
>>2799595
For wavelength you can search flickr with "___nm infrared" - there will be tons of samples. Most popular is 720nm, but there are also 590, 620, 680, 760, 820.
>>2799602
Not variable. My variable one is clear for IR lights )
>>2799607
I mean as cutting more of the visible spectrum than of the IR band.

It's a little pricey but I think it was really fun to shoot, definitely adds a bit of dimension to your portfolio. just used a yellow 12 filter on a 24mm for just about every shot I took. here's my load frame, thought it was kind of neat even if unusable

A while back I bought some agfa MF IR film. My question is: how do I meter for it?
>>2799738
I'm using almost normal shutter with modified camera +-1EV.
>>2799607
Dropped the cheapshit option and got a 680nm filter on evilbay. Description says it's the equivalent of the Hoya R70.
Seller was from UK, description said it was manufactured in UK, receipt was from Germany. I bet it will come via a slow ship from China.
I modded a Sony DSCF-828 to shoot in infrared years ago. The IR filter in that camera is something you can just break & remove with no ill effects. I put a Hoya r70 on it.
