This photo series, Burn by Philip Pavlinger, is an attempt to document a unique burning man subculture, by spending time with, and photographing, a specific troupe from hawaii. I really enjoy it, what bodies of work (in this documentary vein of photography) do you enjoy?

shittiest subject ever.

Pretty boring. Looks like someone just brought a camera to take pics of their friends at Burning Man. Really nothing interesting about the photos, they fail to transform the scene into anything.
Good documentary can make the ordinary extraordinary, this makes something extraordinary seem extremely plain.
>hey look at this pretty person in funny clothes!
yeah agree with what people have said so far.
And to elaborate, I think it's incredibly boring to take pictures of people like this who clearly WANT their photo to be taken, they're all dressed up in wacky costumes with the poses they have practiced in the mirror, waiting for photographers to come and snap them. Truly interesting documentary photography actually has weight to it - has some stakes. This shit is truly vanilla with the thinnest 'odd' veneer that might trick the most simple of people. Go read a bunch of old NatGeo mags to see truly interesting photojournalism/documentary photography.
forgot to link the guys shit

fuck off.

Are these technically well done? Yes
Are they interesting? Opinion
The thing about Burning Man is that it's where stupid/pathetic hippies go to be weird for a week. You know what would be interesting? A normal family of 4 juxtaposed against these sad "artists". If you're like 16, and never heard of Burning Man, these pictures might seem unique and inspiring, but the fact of the matter is that these are as boring as neon lights and crowds in Japan.
i like the fact that he keeps his collage under 1 mb
1/10, try harder OP
now have a look through these

also there's Chris Arnade (covers Heroin addiction).
there're so many amazing documentary projects out there, Philip-Lorca diCorcia's Hustlers is great, not strictly documentary though, more a portrait series on male escorts in hollywood.
