both surnames too similar, the more prominent one gets on top. although give me gronsky any day of the week. over burtynsky too.
btw ever watched the burtynsky docu? found it as a dvd image, thought it was gonna look awesome, but quality was very shit.

Man this guy just takes high contrast snapshits and is clearly on the spectrum. I am not titillated by his photos at all. He basically just exploits that he lives in a sunblasted shithole of a desert, and then blows the contrast for dat edge.
>>2795002
>i feel like alot of his photos are just kinda boring and uninspired
Not all of them are standalone like "Charles." He's a very sequence-driven photographer, so not every photo is as overtly interesting or outstanding as the others. They're all working together to convey different themes he has going on in his sequences.

I don't see how a few paragraphs detailing how he chooses to waste his time and be an autistic faggot makes his snapshits any more dignified or complex.
Anyone can write a sophomore english paper's worth of nonsense about their method, or to recount a narrative of one particular photograph
>>2801321
>snapshit
It's faggots like you who are wrecking human expression.
There's all manner of critique you can give dude's work, but calling them snapshits is irredeemably ignorant and stupid. There is every indication of consideration, thought, and effort in his images. Whether you think that's wasted effort is an entirely different matter. It also goes to show that you haven't the first idea of how to actually criticize works or even think of them.
And no, I'm not attempting to imply or outright state that effort matters in the final result from the stance of achieving artistic goals, but it definitely removes from play the idea that the shots are "snapshits".
>>2795837

>>2795743
Well the job position is "Show the average middle class american what life is like in other parts of the world" which pretty much necessitates taking photos of people from other cultures. At what point does education about other ways of life become cliche exploitation?
That's like saying it's cliche and insulting to learn about fractions in math class. It's sort of the reason you're there.
>>2803919
>show middle class what its like to live elsewhere
>presents a work where there's more fetishism over the exotic than truth and what it actually is to live elsewhere
>what is possibly mediocre about this work

Some years back at a Borders Book store in north west Omaha Nebraska a husband and wife wife discovered a book by Sally Man which contained pictures she had taken of her kids in various states of undress. This stressed the couple so much they were arrested by police when they started publicly yelling child pornography and damaging the books at the store. I had just left the store an hour prior and happened passed the book my self. Now I wish I had picked it up to see what the fuss was about.
>>2807063
thats a pretty retarded story.
top art photog philip lorca dicorcia has many series, one of them titled "Heads", which consisted in street portraits via a carefully arranged setup that triggered the camera and a flash at the moment people were passing by. that way he got lots of very good, kinda studio looking candid street portraits.
all people portrayed were very happy with the portraits (once exhibited), except one guy, who ended up suing him. luckily dicorcia won the case.
pic of course related.

What's the name of the photographer who took that picture of the hand holding the lighter that had really beautiful pastel tones to it?
I think it was a lighter...seem to remember the photog being Japanese too.
