Sup /p/

Is the Lenspen the only lens cleaning tool I will ever need or will I need other cleaning tools also?

I've been using my t-shirt for 15 years and have never had an issue.

What's micro coating on lenses?

Can i ask a general lens care question? I have these nikon moist lens wipes that are highly rated. I always wonder that it has to be leaving some kind of residue on my lens. Does anyone use these?

something you should only be worried about damaging if you're shooting 1950s Leitz lenses, in which case you're just as well off removing it completely with some acetone anyway.

If you have opinions about proper lens maintenance but have never even torn down a lens yourself (and put it back together) then you're probably a buffoon. :^)

I love lens pens, tho. keep one clipped to the little pen holder dealio on the outside of my fake billingham at all times. More accessible than digging arround in the bottom of the bag for a microfiber. They're also good for cleaning mirrorless sensors (for dslrs its difficult to get it past the mirror assembly, but there's a lenspen specifically designed for dslrs with a bent neck for the purpose of cleaning dslr sensors. forget the name, made by the same company though)

I bought one wet wipe for lenses that was environmentally friendly. I used one wipe to clean all my lenses. It cleaned really well and I used a blower for the dust that might be left over. I don't think there is much residue left since it's probably mostly water that will evaporate. Wet cleaning my lenses really worked well making them look nice. In reality it's not really necessary.

A slightly dirty lens should be fine. There is no real need to ever clean your lenses unless they are ridiculously dirty. I just use a clean shirt or lens cloth and a blower once in a while.

I might buy them again in the future. They are cheap, it's fun to clean your lenses with a wet wipe, and it makes them look really nice.

Yeah i got 20 wipes for like $4 so it wasnt some crazy investment. Was just wondering if there were any risks in using it. Thanks!

Getting a blower will do you wonders for not just your lenses but your camera body too.

Don't forget your negatives before scanning them. Also it can be used to cool hot food.

Or getting dust out of anything.

...friend, you blow then wipe.

This. That rocket blower has been a lifesaver.

Blow, dry wipe, blow again, wet wipe, blow one last time for good measure.

I've only done this once but it was fun.
