I realised I stripped the EXIF data! Sorry lads.
Shooting a D7000 with a 35mm in the first shot and 11mm in the second. 1/250 f/8 for both of them.
First shot used a gelled blue flash to the camera left and a bare flash shot into the bottle from below. .
Second shot used gelled orange flash for camera left fill and 6in softboxed light for the right.
Just fucking around with some strobes in the early hours of the morning.

I shot those books. I mostly agree with you. I shot this on my bed and the books/backdrop were not playing nice.
Cheers for reinforcing my dislike of my own photo. It was more a test concept. My main issue with it is the large OOF area at the front (on the Qur'an).
This was more a test shot than anything to evaluate my backdrop (got acess to big rolls of brown paper) as well as play around with my new YN-560IIIs with built in radio triggers (a real freaking dream to use).

The X-pro is nice, a lot bigger and heavier than the X-T10 I had.
It's underexposed because the ISO dial is awkward as fuck for me to change. I may have to switch to auto ISO (which I don't really want to do).

The composition is quite nice. I like that you can only faintly see the woman/mom.
I think the problem is the blurred hand and the bad facial expression of the child.
Also, you might try and tweak the colors a bit more. both the child and the mother's skin tones look horrible.
