Im wanting to upgrade to a decent camera for wildlife and nature photography, and was wondering if the T6i is worth the $749.00 price tag. If not should i just get a T5i?

Seriously, buy lenses instead.

I doubt it, all the canon rabals from t2i to t6i have the same sensor.

It looks like they got the DIGIC 5 starting at T4i but I am dubious that matters for shit.

It seems mostly all that canon has added on this line in the last 6 years are gimmicks like wifi, articulated touchscreen (who cares) or video (which you could probably do with magiclatern anyway)

ok maybe there is some really rare niche use of an articulating screen but it's not worth an upgrade

>>2779160
This is also correct. It's not cheap, but if you want to shoot those you should look at the 100-400mm zoom most likely.

I'm in a similar situation and am going to pull the trtigger on the `II` series since it's a lens that had been in the pipeline for like 15 years and will probably get at least a decade of use out of.

And that's something that will follow to any canon body when you do upgrade (and apaprently also sony should you go to the dark side)

oh fuck me, the t6i has 24.2 MP, I didn't realize that.

Time to check DXOMark

as a Canon guy I have to admit that the K3 + 55-300mm seems to be a much better entry level point, especially as it apparently seems to autofocus and have decent IQ with a 1.4x teleconverter, based on another thread.

however i don't know how they match up at the high end or medium-high end - e.g. glass that costs 1000-2000$

i'm sure at the pro end where you're shooting with a 10,000$ f/2.8 400mm Canon is only competiting with Nikon, but that's unlike to be any of us at any point in life

I do think considering the 2000$ area isn't unreasonable

they have a new FA* 70-200 2.8 as well as the DA 150-450mm, and the 560mm 5.6
they dont have access to tamrons 150-600mm, but sigmas 50-500mm comes in k mount
>>
>>2779168
hah. so the T6i is barely sharper than the T2i. pathetic
>>
>>2779170
I thought that too, but the 750D/760D has a different sensor, and the DIGIC processor varies.

used canon 1D IV and even 1DX is sooo cheap compared to used D3s/D4/D4s. Makes canon look extremely attractive, especially when you consider the used cost of supertele primes is MUCH lower as well.
>>
>>2779174
This may surprise you, but the thing that captures the image has something to do with image quality
>>
>>2779182
Only in terms of pixels and ISO. How can sharpness be a factor? The Lens dominates the sharpness. Only perhaps if the sensor cannot resolve it
>>
>>2779178
why? those sensors are very low MP, even if they are marginally better ISO performance

Just framerate?
>>
>>2779171
plus the k-3 and i believe all those lenses are weather sealed
>>
>>2779189
There's a lot less to sensors than you seem to think. yes they are important but a great sensor stops being great the second you drop your flimsy camera and break it, or the second you miss a shot because the controls/ergonomics of the camera slowed you down, your great sensor wont compensate for not even attempting to take a picture for example even if there is light drizzle. Old 1D AF also kicks "prosumer" cameras about all day. They also feature dual card slots, more reliable shutters and more accurate large viewfinders.
>>
>>2779202
>They also feature dual card slots, more reliable shutters and more accurate large viewfinders.
the k-3 has dual card slots, is rated for 200,000 shutter actuations, and has a 100%, .95 magnification viewfinder
and its fully weather sealed, shoots at 8.3 fps, has in body IS, and has the apsc crop factor which helps in getting closer to wild subjects. and it only costs 650 new
>>
>>2779210
How many stops is the body IS?
>>
>>2779211
not sure tbhfam. the new system in the k-1 is rated for 5 stops, but if i had to guess i'd say its good for 2-3 in the k-3. for moving subjects you want a high shutter speed anyway, but i've taken clean shots of still subjects at 300mm with shutter speeds of 1/100 sec
>>
>>2779219
true, but if your subject is far away and not moving, especially if in shadows or something, the IS could be beneficial
>>
>>2779219
and i've taken clean shots handheld with a 50mm lens at 1/6 sec
>>
>>2779135
you could just go with a used 7d, around 500 bucks on ebay

>>2779210
the k-3 sounds cool though
>>
>>2779162

What do you mean they have the same sensor?

Is that a bad thing?
>>
>>2779242
it just means you might as well choose the cheapest one with that sensor
>>
>>2779299
Wouldn't the newer ones have better pictures? I thought they make new cameras because they improve the quality?ยก

Where can I check if the camera sensors are the same?

So is this leagues better then a 2010 rebel and a galaxy s5 smart phone camera.

I'm going to vancouver this summer and I want a dslr that will fix anything i fuck up on in manual mode.

Also something that will take pictures in terms of quality as close to film as I can afford.
>>
buy a used t2i or something better for a cheeseburger and spend your money on nice lenses. Lenses matter a lot more
>>
>>2779439
Really they matter that much? I'm trying to get lighting right on my rebel xs with a nifty fifty and no matter what I do I can't.

Would shooting in raw and custom white balance let me able to correct the lighting and color when I edit in RAW?

Or does the light meter just suck ass on the rebel xs and it don't matter what settings I use and I won't be able to fix it in raw editor?
>>
>>2779181
>used canon 1D IV and even 1DX is sooo cheap compared to used D3s/D4/D4s

Why is this?
Why do people pay more for a camera that is less adaptable when Canon offers the same or better features?
>>
>>2779364

Rebels haven't been shit for years, you should get a used 40D or something unless you really want to take videos as well.
>>
Used T3i/T4i and spend the rest on lens for sure
>>

eos m3 + evf bundle
>>
>>2779455
They do, first video that came in my mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hk5IMmEDWH4

Yes if you don't totally fuck up the highlights, just don't trust the screen, use histogram if available. Post some of your "bad" images so we can understand what's going on
>>
>>2780100
Isn't the histogram wrong since it's based off jpg not raw?
>>
>>2779738
why 3/4 and not t2i?
