Sup /p/, I got two 8mm cameras, one is a Bell and Howell Model 430, and the other is a Chinon Zoom 8. Neither of them work, Bell battery compartment is rekt and Chinon just won't turn even after I resolder all the wires inside, nothing. There are no real deep info about these camera on google so came here to the good old place of 4chan to discuss the faith of these oldie. I really have to no clue what to do with them, my only option that I am thinking is to remove the lens and use them on my other 35mm cameras. What do you think, it's all up to you, and yes I will keep updating.
>>
The lenses aren't gonna do you much good on 35mm, since they only cover an 8mm frame.

However, I like the idea of trying to reuse them. Are they permanently fixed or C-mount? You can get adapters for M4/3, and they have somewhat decent coverage there, or, even better, you might be able to rig them onto a tiny sensor mirrorless camera like a Pentax Q or maybe a Nikon 1.
>>
>>2767281
your idea is not bad at all, but I have no clue on that, I'm going to disassemble the two and see if they are c mount. In the mean time, keep throwing out more suggestion, I like em.

I've taken lots of super 8 cameras apart. I was experimenting with optics at college.

Usually the lenses are not a removable "module" but a zoom/focusing part and another tiny lens arrangment built into the body.

Looking at the cameras they should have lots of tiny lenses, mirrors, prisms and maybe a beam splitter in the viewfinder assembly.

Take them to bits. It's fun.

Update: I have completely taken apart the Chinon Zoom 8 and obtained its reflex zoom lens. It was a major pain in the ass but I pulled through. The lens is F:1.8 and f=9.5~30mm. Imma test it on my sony cybershot cam and see wassup.

I don't know what I'm gonna do with the other 8mm, what do you all think I should do, you decide.
>>

Take it to bits more you pussy!

You have barely scratched the surface.
>>
I have an old autoload bell and howell myself but was never sure whether to try and get it to work or chuck it. Maybe I should dismantle it?
>>
>>2769130
You should, unless it does work, but honestly in this day in age, unless your a super rich hipster, 8mm is a bitch to use and very expensive to develop, but I can tell you this. The bell and howell is SOOOO much easier to take apart than the chinon. Give it a try.

How "rekt" is the battery compartment? Leaked alkaline battery electrolyte is water soluble and pretty easy to clean.

Sure, let me just finish up my college hw and i'll send the pic, but for now just a heads up, the Chinon is very clean, but the Bell and Howell is pretty rekt.

alright everybody of /p/, the Chinon lens is great but it only shoot close shots now, I don't mind since the two cameras are already broken, I might use it as a prop for a mask I'm making. Anyways, I still have the shell of the bell and howell, still don't want what to do with it, again, you decide /p/.

Overall, Chinon lens was great, takes good clear hold pictures, may use it as a eye piece for a mask and the bell and howell will be used a prop. Thanks /p/ for tuning in.
