It's that slow mate. I held and used a XT1 with 50-140 indoors, and watched it hunt focus using center AF points on some dude's head. I mean, what the fuck?

People have been photographing cars and other fast objects before AF, They did a little thing called prefocusing

They also expected to waste huge amounts of film doing it. That's why bulk film backs and fast power winders existed. Because prefocussing my help in motor racing where you can predict where the car is going to go. Not so helpful in sports such as basketball, soccer or rugby
>>
>>2758891
probably due to the fact mirrorless cameras have absolute shit battery life compared to DSLR's and EVF's cannot compare to normal optical ones.
>>
>>2759123
>needs a pro camera for IG
>>
>>2759337
for what, faggot?

- EVF is infinitely better at previewing exposure and white balance.
- OVF is significantly better at showing you real life.

It's almost like camera companies wouldn't add a feature if it wasn't useful. (inb4 toy effects on X-T1).
>>
>>2758814
Yep. This is pretty much the only thing preventing me from selling all my Nikon gear and going mirrorless
>>

for what, faggot?

Fucking street snapshits??

>where the fuck are my 9001 spare batteries?
>why is my white balance off
>why didnt my evf preview correct white balance before I took the photo
>why am I being cucked by sony
>why am I sacrificing all the fucking battery life of my fucking tiny battery to only get a correct preview of exposure after I take the shot in which case it is better to look at the fucking LCD anyway

Oh wait I just realised

>Sony
>Flash system

My aplogies, I forgot we were cmparing a toy only suitable for snapshits to professional cameras.

Name one application when an EVF is fucking better than an OVF to the point where its worth sacrificing more than 75% of your battery life lol

75% was not a typo either.

I have an X-T1 and 50-140. It focuses nearly instantly in about 3EV. If you're shooting in low enough light to cause this pairing to fail, you're going to miss focus on your D5100 too.

Also, fun fact, tests are showing the new XPro2 beating 7Dmk2, D810, etc. In AF speed in low light.
>>
>>2759451
Your post is so much incorrect and strange information I don't even really know where to start...

>What are strobes
What? 1) You don't get any sort of exposure preview at all with OVF, so why would it be WORSE to have, worst case scenario, the EXACT SAME level of info? Also, 2) If you're shooting serious strobes, you have modeling lights.

>Why can't my lelvf preview any photos with flash
See above ^^

>Why is my battery life so shit
Because the cameras are small. Do you only have one battery for your DSLR?

>Where the fuck are my 9001 spare batteries
I have two. They stay in my camera bag, with my lenses, cleaning cloth, tripod heads, charger, and all the other shit I'm already bringing with me because I'm a photographer, not a GWC.

>Why is my white balance off
Good question. What? Also, are we ignoring the well documented issues that Nikon DSLRs have with white balance?

>Why didn't my evf preview correct white balance before I took the photo
Another good question. What are you talking about? Mine absolutely does that...

It seems like maybe you just have no idea what you're talking about? Which is fair I guess... but what's with the aggressive ignorance?

>Sony
>Flash system
Oh, so you're using tiny little hotshoe flashes and rely on TTL for some reason? Sounds like you're getting good results.

Even someone with a MILD interest in SORT OF serious flash work is not using a system that offers TTL, dude. Even Alien Bees are manual with a controller. And guess what - they work with Sony.

>More than 75% of your battery life.
Which DSLR are you using in raw that is giving you 1600 photos per battery?

Here's a gif I just made you. Low light AF with the 50-140 on the X-T1 in single point AF mode.

OK, that's actually pretty great
>>
>>2759605
14 dead-on locks in a row. Focusing starts when the screen gets bright, and ends when the box turns green. Not a single one of those took even a single second, and it didn't miss focus once.
>>
>>2759606
Fuji does have some slower lenses. The 35mm f/1.4 hunts a bit in really low light. I'm sure there are others, but of the lenses I own (23mm, 35mm f/1.4, 35mm f/2, 18-55, 50-140, and 56 f/1.2) all but the 35 f/1.4 focus dead-on accurately, and nearly instantly, in any lighting situation in which I can actually get a usable photo. Fuji AF speed and hunting used to be a big issue, with the XPro1, the X-E1, and the X100, but they've got it down now. Tracking is still not perfect, and I wouldn't rely on it, but single shot stuff is on par with the best now, and isn't even worth bringing up when talking about the newer cameras.

A big issue DSLR shooters have when moving to mirrorless is not knowing how to use the AF system. It behaves a little differently. Having variable sized focus point in general is a new concept, for instance. But once you play with it for a very little while, you learn it, and you can use it without issue.
>>
>implying mirrorless can't have weathersealing
>implying mirrorless has bad image quality
>implying mirrorless has bad build quality

Leica.JPG

High performance build and picture quality. The tabs on most lenses let you learn to focus quickly on fast moving subjects.

That said, Leica is not for sports.

>tfw I got the 35mm f1.4 and only the 35mm f1.4 on my X-T10 and shoot street mostly in evenings/night

The images look great but it is a bit slow to be honest. I'll probably trade it to one of the wides and get the newer f2 at some point.
>>
>>2759770
My f/2 arrived in the mail yesterday and I've already been doing some playing with it. It's dramatically improved. I can assure you, if you are having focusing issues, chances are very very good it's the lens.
>>
>>2759365
>- OVF is significantly better at showing you real life.
But Anon, photography is not about copy the reality, it's about make great pictrues that came out of your mind using your camera and your environnement.
Exept for photojournalism and packshot, the "more realistic" argument is pointless.
>>
>>2758736
I'm happy with my a7s but I mostly shoot videos so whatever. It feels good to travel lightweight tho
>>
I like Sony if just for the reason they stir up a lot of drama in the forums.

They're holding power over the most significant core technologiy, the most aggressive development of image sensors, which brings about a whole ton of sensor envy, and it's entertaining as fuck to read.
