Will Nikon ever release something to compete with the Cinema EOS system?
No? Nikon is far smaller than Canon, and not in the video business. Canon have always made video gear.

I am surprised Blackmagic is still independent and hasn't been absorbed by Panasonic or Sony, it would be nice if someone like Nikon could get them.

black magics codec in nice but their QC in build is dubious at best. I was talked out of the BMPC because of the alarming number of warranty returns my local shop is getting.
several were dead right out of the box.
