I'm going to buy my first fixed focal length lens in a few days. As I'm interested in street photography I'm thinking about the Nikkor 35mm 1/1,8G or the Nikkor 50mm 1/1,8G for my D3200. Which should I choose?

35mm on crop camera like yours, do nikkon not do a similarly priced 24 or 28?

There's a 28mm 1/1.8, but it's out of my price limit
Also, which of 50mm and 35mm is better for portrait photography?

The 50mm
I'd say get the 35mm. If you're terrified of people get the 50mm.
A good way to know which will work for you is to use the focal length markings on the kit lens if you have one. Shoot with it or check your library to see which focal lengths you usually shoot at.
You can't go wrong with either one. If you can't decide, look through your photos and see which focal length you use the most with your zoom lens.
get the 35mm because you're on a crop sensor so the focal length will actually be about 50mm on the d3200
the 50mm will be too close up for street photography on a crop sensor camera and more suited to portraits and stuff

Ok seems like I'm gonna buy the 35mm lens tomorrow. Hopefully it'll be the right choice!

THAT'S NOT STREET!
THIS IS STREET!
35mm eqv is the only acceptable street 'tog focal length. 17mm M43, 22-23mm APS-C. Everyone else can get out. You're not shooting real street.
Honestly, 50mm on crop can work well too. it's when you start getting to the 135mm eqv zone when it starts changing drastically.

Fuck off. Are you one of those guys that say "white chocolate isn't real chocolate" too?

I think he's being facetious.

White chocolate isn't real chocolate, though.
OP here. Got my 35mm 1/1,8 now and it seems to be the best pick for my plans. Thank you guys!
