Instagram is a massive social media site, with immense outreach capabilities for an individual or a brand to expand their visibility in the marketplace. I have just over 6,000 followers, and I got a Lowepro Whistler BP 350 for FREE in exchange for taking a couple pics. Free Sierra Designs Tent, free Olukai boots, free Black Diamond Ice Tools and Crampons, free Rab Hardshell. Practically everything I own for outdoor gear is brand new and completely free, because my pictures feature people wearing gear doing rad shit, and a couple thousand people see every single shot I post. One of my friends has 30k followers and he through hiked the entire Appalachian trail for free, through IG related sponsorships and financing.

Oh and I guess being a "whore stupid" (great use of English, btw), feels wonderful. I'm getting paid for photography, and it's all in my free time taking pictures of things I would already be shooting. It feels fucking awesome.

That's because Instagram isn't about "follow for follow" to everyone. In general I quite dislike social media but it's come to a point where I need it to promote my business. Facebook is dead and awful and Instagram is the only social media I care for, so I'm very selective about what shows up in my feed. I have no desire to see someone's selfies, meals, pets, crappy photos or anyone who posts more than twice a day. Why would I want to see any of that? I genuinely believe what I post is interesting. I spend hours on some shots before sharing them (not that anything I share is perfect). No selfies, no food pics, no in bedroom/boring daily life shots. Generally, people are just being selfish and lazy. I bet most of the anons in this thread don't even check out the profiles of new followers.
To correct my previous post, I didn't follow everyone. I went to each individual profile and made sure they had at least 3 shots I considered interesting before following.

I struggle to follow most accounts on Instagram precisely because I don't think I'm a good photographer -- which makes me look for mature work that has potential to teach me something. That's Instagram in a nutshell, m80. It's the only social network where following a lot of people is seen as uncool and thirsty. The same extends to IG threads on this board. Guys just see this as an easy way to increase their followers-to-following ratio. They aren't looking to make new friends, unless those new friends have a fuckton of followers (which is ironic, because the guys with a high F:F ratio are unlikely to follow back).
It's the Instagram food chain, and it's one of its most glaring flaws.

Well, it's worth considering: maybe those people only follow people they're interested in, and they're not interested in you? You spending time on your shots is good, but that doesn't mean the photos will be liked, or even understood, by everyone. Instagram isn't just about uploading photos, it's about presenting them. I'm usually reluctant to follow people who have no consistency in their photos (I can imagine that lots of other people are the same), and it's usually those with the "take pictures of interesting things" philosophy that have little consistency in their work.

I'd say your mountain photos are in fact a little boring, even though they are great locations with great light. Mostly the problem is that the square format isn't as good a choice for those kind of sweeping landscape photos. I think all of these pictures would be much better if they were in a wider format, so I think you shouldn't be afraid to either put white bars on some of your photos in order for them to work for instagram, or be more careful in your selection of what photos work with the square format.

I just post pictures. It does piss me off when i see whores just posting pictures that get hundreds of likes. Then i post a photo that is actually considered a fuckin photo and it gets 20-40 likes. It is shit.
