Gross. As if battery life wasn't bad enough.
Sample image so far from our Chinese overlords.

It's time to give up Anon. All of your Summicrons will belong to us from now on.
>>2739210
>mode dial on the right side
>no top LCD display
Absolutely disgusting
>Leica sl is kill
>>2739222
That's just the body, Sony release a newer and better one each year.
The important bit is the adapter which is now capable of shifting the Z-axis for focusing.
>>2739226
That feeling of Leica abandon its own lenses.
Leica SL doesn't even accept M-mount.
It takes a Chinese adapter company + Sony infrastructure to bring life back into legacy Leica lenses.
Leica boss on suicide watch.
>>2739233
>Leica boss on suicide watch
Considering how many Leica fags burn money buying the shit Leica puts out nowadays, I highly doubt it.
>>2739243
I think this will spread like wildfire in the Leica communities.
Also I think this will damage the Zeiss Loxia offerings.
Instead of buying Loxia and lose Autofocus, people can now just buy Leica and Voightlander.
>>2739210
>will gain Autofocus
>will lose Infinityfocus
As somebody who shoots primarily M mount lenses on an E mount body, there is no way I would buy/use this.
>>2739257
You must be a DSLR user...
>>2739257
??
Just shift over to manual mode if that's what you want. It's only 1 button away.
b-but why?
if ye whack it agwen the bliddy wall ye ve broken the hale unit
a frightful bitty i shit tae be siccar
Why? Just, why? Seriously, I can't see the point of this at all.
BTW, does anyone want a full large format set-up for free? I've just realized it doesn't have autofocus or automatic exposure modes so it must be useless.
>>2739769
It's for getting autofocus on an M-mount lens.
>>2739778
Oh really? Thanks.
The question is - why the fuck would anyone pay good money to either a) develop it, or, b) buy it.
Utterly fucking pointless gadget.
>>2739800
Because they'd like to have autofocus on an M-mount lens.
>>2739800
In-camera autofocus is not recent. Leica first invented the af, then sold it to minolta because it found no reason to implement af (like you said), and then minolta was bought by sony. The irony... Anyways, I bet it didn't cost too much to develop it, and there's a great share of rich amateurs who would enjoy af with **Leica** lens.
>>2739811
Leica T is also very recent. This context is very similar to that of Contax N and C/Y mount - in favor of minor practical advantages, a whole new mount is implemented - while there are already well established M and R mount.
N/AI AF when?
Probably won't make me go mirrorless but it would be cool.
>>2739210
>IT'S HAPPENING
You say that as though these things suddenly gained OVFs and usable autofocus speeds.
>>2739843
Burn!
>>2739229
>now capable of shifting the Z-axis for focusing
How's that, Anon?
>>2739233
>That feeling of Leica abandon its own lenses.
It's a good one senpai.
Hopefully Leica will kill the M mount so I can get my hands on their nice lenses without the artificial price inflation.
>>2739257
Why would you need AF for landscapes?
>>2739831
>as is the story for *most* manual focus mounts
Couldn't Leica have used edge contacts like Nikon?
>>2739210
I highly doubt the travel distance possible with the thickness of a M-FE adapter will be enough for "every" M-mount lens.
Not to mention that a lot of them aren't even intended to be focused by moving all lens elements as one.
>>2739843
Didn't Sony just patent a dorky system for having a TTL OVF with a minimal flange focal distance?
>>2739921
>>2739842
Now F to FE mount AF adapter, that would be cool. I will be finally able to use all my sweet voigtlanders on digital without buying the retraded Df.

>>2739831
That's all very correct. On the other hand, if Sony develops a in-camera autofocus, it'll appeal to the consumer who wants to use a wide variety of legacy lens, instead of buying limited range of new T lenses.
N-mount lenses were all great (Contax still was Kyocera company at the time, btw), and I bet T-mount lenses will be too.
>>2739894
The Z-axis is forward and backward movements, it's not a new concept, the Contax AX did the same thing by moving the film plane forward and back to focus. It's very handy for macro work
>>2739962
>moving the film plane forward and back to focus
>Sony adds Z-shift ability to their IS system
>Now you only need to manually focus adapted lenses very roughly and the sensor shift does the precise part
That would be fucking glorious
>>2739962
Neat.
Why are the Chinese the only ones making these kinds of adapters?
>>2739975
Because they're the only country that gives its children a proper STEM education.
>>2739975
Uhhh...Metabones?
>>2739811
>Unless someone makes a similar adapter for the SL at some point.
No, you also need the manufacturer to unlock PDAF to make the AF even usable.
>>2739983
>No ones done it before
The only reason why no one did this before is because every other manufacturer is keeping their PDAF locked behind bars.
Sony is the only system that has PDAF freed to 3rd party mounts. That's why so many various AF adapters are being made for the system now.
>>2740132
Sony has a patent for something that's much closer to what Contax did, where they move the sensor forwards and backwards
>>2739931
>>2739842
>Now F to FE mount AF adapter,
Pioneering AF adapters like these are expensive.
It may sound crazy, but yYou can just save money and use a dumb adaptor from F to M, and then recycle your M to E-mount which has z-shift AF.
The flange distance of the M-mount is a good middle of the road for adapting to multiple other mounts.

>how all lenses focus right, moving the "z axis"
No, most modern lenses focus by moving some elements relative to others.
>>2740322
:/
Many Modern M-Mount lenses feature floating eleMents M8.
>>2739983
What is even the point of your post?
I was simply trying to explain what makes this adapter stand out, because it's the first of its kind.
>>2740179
There is only a 10mm difference in flange distance between E and M, so an autofocusing adapter can have maybe 8 millimeters of travel at most, which isn't going to be enough for telephotos. And a big SLR lens plus a M-F adapter might be too front-heavy for the adapter's motor to cope with.
>>2740548
You've never seen collapsible lens that protrude far more than the flange space they take up?
>>2739920
Leica doesn't care to make the M mount autofocus. Why would they? They're two different lines. If you want AF, don't buy Leica M. It's that simple.
>>2740336
Pentax made a 1.7x teleconverter that did AF back in the day. Put a manual focus lens on it and get the focus close, the teleconverter did the AF. Wish they would make more like this.
>>2740554
Yes, and typically they're wobbly as fuck
>>2740563
That's just retarded. If they have the will to make such AF system, it would be better to shift the sensor instead of a potentially 1Kg lens and force it to use teleconverter.
This company have the excuse that they are merely 3rd party adapter maker. Pentax has no excuse.
>>2740565
Then you simply construct your adapter to be wide enough and solid enough, and tight enough so it doesn't wobble.
>>2740569
The element in the teleconver moved so it was internal AF not everything mounted to it. Get yer head outa yer ass.
>>2740573
You can move the sensor in the same fashion and it would still be internal AF.
>>2740571
There is limited clearance around the mount, and you have to fit the motor parts somewhere too. I highly doubt fitting a double helicoid in there is feasible.
>>2740581
You can just extend the diameter of the adapter as needed, there is no limit on that.
This one in OP is really small, but it claims go support 300 gram lens without problems. And 300-1000 gram lenses if you hand support the lens.
>>2740583
>extend the diameter of the adapter as needed, there is no limit on that.
There are limits actually. E-mount cameras have grips on one side, and extending the adapter past the bottom plate will block the use of the tripod mount on the camera. (Look at the monstosity that is LA-EA2/LA-EA4)
Is it possible to move the focal reducer glass inside the metabones adapter to work as a focus mechanism?
>>2740590
I don't see this as a really big issue. The largest +2Kg lenses will have their own tripod collars. So all the adapter needs to do at that point is the move a freely hanging mirrorless camera back and forth.
For the medium sized telephoto lenses it's a matter of taste if you use tripod or handhold. If you handhold, there is no problem. If you use tripod, the adapter itself have have a tripod collar, no problems here.
>>2740594
I think it's a bad idea to introduce another piece of glass like that in general. All the speedboosters I've seen introduces some sort of additional purple fringe on the images.
It's something you use if you really desperately want full frame field of view on your crop sensor.
>>2739931
anybody know wtc the strap on this?
>>2740594
No.
>>2739210
>Buy LTM to M mount adapter
>Enjoy glorious soviet glass in AF
I. Am. Ready.
>>2739964
They actually have a patent for 6-axis IBIS
