It was surprisingly beautiful. The plot was a little B-movie-ish but I'll watch any movie with such great cinematography. You could even see the distortion of the wide angle: It was magical.

In a similar style, but rougher.

Terrence Malick earliest movies (Badlands, Days of Heaven) has some of this style too, but in a more rural and "painterly" manner. Very beautiful, tho.

Black Rain doesn't get enough love.

Terrible movie, but visually amazing, often superior to blade runner. I wonder if he watched Akira before he made this, because there are some shots stolen right out of it.

thoughts on Knight of Cups cinematography?
this was the first malick film I watched after getting into photography so I noticed some new things
>constant tiny aperture. f16 or smaller
>only wide angle lenses
>tons of backlight with lots of starbursts (which got a bit annoying after a while)
>only one camera at all times
>almost every shot is handheld
>camera tilts
>random go-pro shots
pretty interesting

I read a great story about him salvaging super fast lenses from nasa and cutting up his camera to be able to fit them or something, to film the indoor candlelight scenes without additional light.

>>2728724
The goofy computer animation really killed that one for me.

Anyone know if you can set vlc to put the name of the movie in the .jpg when taking a screenshot? It's kind of annoying this way.
pic related Black Moon.

his visual works with the direction of his film. Not many people appreciate Malick.. im not saying its a patrician film but you need to watch Malick's films at least twice to get it. He is a big fan of Heidegger so he put that philosophy onto his films which is so good..

I got excited for The Revenant until I realized it was directed by the mediocre Mexican auteur and not the good one.

The trailer made it look like a Cuaron film and not Inarritu.

wasn't criticizing (apart from the starburst part), just making observations

I watched that and everytime I come across it I think "yeah it was great" but I can't for the life of me remember what actually happened.

But the Hobbit? Seriously?

Brazil. I liked this scene.

That, was a beautiful film.

Has anyone else here scene 'Even Dwarves Started Small"?
>>
>>2735875

gh2, according to imdb.
>>

first Hobbit movie was alright in terms of cinematography. Nothing special, though
second one had a lot of shots that felt rushed
third one was just bloom filters and green screen
