The composition is odd, also, software sharpen much? Look at the edge of the back of the bird. That's too much. You can achieve even higher sharpening without stuff like that happening, just go full adjustment masks.

Hello friends, I am even below amateur when it comes to photography and tomorrow I will be visiting Disneyland for just one day while passing through California.
What are some simple things I can do to make my shots not look like a typical tourist photo?
I only have one friend who does photography a little and he suggested "wait as long as you need to get the right image", " try looking at things from different angles", "don't be afraid to ask people to take their pictures", and " take a lot of photos, more is better". Do you guys have any other advice?
The only camera I own is a dinky Canon Powershot (Elph115IS if that matters). I would have posted in a Stupid Questions thread but I did not see one, sorry for being off topic.

Couldn't be more wrong, don't listen to your idiot friend. This is why people take so many snapshits, because they have this retarded mindset that more is better. Slow down, asses the scene, look for subjects that work well together, set up a composition and take a shot. Don't go walking around mindlessly clicking away at your shutter, and then later wander why your pictures are so fucking boring.

The best thing you can do is pick up a photobook or a few by the "greats" and examine their work, and do a lot of critical thinking about what makes the images powerful or iconic.
Even better are books where the photographer discusses his or her method or reason for photography.
"Ping Pong Conversations" by Alec Soth is an excellent example, even if it's not his style you're interested in. It helps to get inside of these people's heads to think like they do, because it's all about being able to have a certain kind of mindset to "see."
