Canon AE-1
Anyone have this camera? Thinking about purchasing one.
You'll need a way to scan the results to get anything useful from that camera.
But it looks sweet-ass
I have the ae1 program. It's a sweet little camera, used lenses are cheap and still widely available
I also have the ae-1p, solid camera and pretty cheap. Buy one!

I have the AT-1, it's a lot of fun, but you have to have an operational battery for the shutter to work.
>>2722313
>but you have to have an operational battery
>but you need an operational battery.
which one sounds best?
I had the AE1p for years, it was a good little camera, the SSC coated 24 still is one of my favorite lenses.

If you want to try film buy a modern SLR.
Or if you want to use FD lenses get something like the T70.
They are overpriced nowadays.
>>2722518
>buy a modern SLR.
>Or ... get something like the T70.
Worst advice ever!
>>2722286
They are nice, just beware of the hipster tax, don't pay a lot for one.
>>2722575
There's nothing special on that model for the price people ask.
>>2722518
I agree with this guy.
Old cameras are awesome, but functionally, they're nothing to write home about.
I just sold my AE1 and bought an Elan 7NE for the same amount. Much happier with the results, since I'm not using 30 year old lenses anymore. Pictures are cleaner and more in focus, with better color and contrast.
Sucks in cold weather. The battery won't last long in anything at or below freezing. Canon FD mount lenses are nice though, I use them on my A7
absolutely wonderful! I have two and I've beaten the shit out of them and shot thousands of rolls through. batteries do act up a bit but they're not that expensive. stock glass is still pretty good and I've never had a problem. one of the best film cameras ever created in 35mm format.
pic related: it's a print from the last roll I put through

AE1s are sweet, but I prefer the AE1P for the ergonomics. On the AE1 the camera strap could rotate the shutter speed. My friend who had one missed a few shots because of this. The strap made the shutter turn to well below 1/60 and he botched the shot..

>>2722613
Have you ever used a T70?
The only way to describe the experience is if getting AIDS by being raped in jail was a camera.
Which is to say not fun.
>>2722894
Its really loud too
If you can, spring for the A-1.
I was gifted an AE-1 and I just couldn't use the thing after using the A-1 for a couple years.
>>2722492
I love the 50mm SSC.
>>2722286
I have an old Canon A-1 hanging around with a few really nice lenses as well. I wish I knew the difference between the A-1 and AE-1.
>>2722707
>bought an Elan 7NE for the same amount
My fucking nigger.
7NE's are GOAT. Taking mine overseas next month
It's a pretty decent little camera. Shutter priority works well. Robustly built aside from the battery compartment. You can get some great glass for it really cheap.
For how inexpensive they are, it's hard to complain too much about the minor flaws.

Yeah, I got one to dick around with film workout having to buy new lenses and feel in love with it.

I can see that, funny how there doesn't seem to be the same disconnect between pro and consumer level nikons. I am quite happy to shoot the FM on the days I want to pack light.

I picked one up from a friend who used to work at a recycling plant and saved some film cameras for 30 euros. Owner tried to clean the insides and thus scratched the sensitive coating thing. Annoying only when you look at it on purpose. Came with a gigantic Tamron 70-210 lens that barely moves, but I'm waiting for my M42 adapter to mount my Helios on. Anyway, I've got two questions for owners:
>Have you ever experienced the shutter dial being retardedly difficult to turn and thus hurting your fingers? If so, any way to fix it? (Yes, tried googling)
>How's the 50mm f1.8 lens that came with the camera and would you recommend it? My old-ass is a bit of a nuisance sometimes and I'd like to keep it on my Zenit, but I don't know if the fiddy is a viable replacement.

>old-ass
lel
Meant my old-ass Helios 44-2
>>2722286
I've got one, super reliable and tough as hell.
I've dropped it on the ground twice and it wasn't even scratched.
Lenses are cheap and plentiful.
>>2724110
Any 50/1.8 is going to be sharper than the Helios, as well as much smaller and lighter and will actually work with the camera, but you might prefer the Helios' rendering style.
>>2722492
hell yes, great lens
I saw a really good deal on one at a local shop and was thinking about picking it up
What's a good price on one of these?
Just picked one up for 10 bucks in real nice condition with that 50mm 1.8 lens
What roll of film should I run through it first to see how well it works?
>>2725737
You need to first check the battery, then just make a inspection for light leaks, fire in every speed to see if it is doing nicely.
Any cheap film would do.
>>2725740
Battery is fine. I'm not really sure how to check for light leaks but it fires at every speed and the lens is very clear
I'll have to shoot a shit roll of film and get it developed at wahlgreens sounds fun as fuck
>>2722286
I've got the AE1P, great camera. Check for 'canon cough' before buying though.
Save your money and go MF or larger
>>2722937
just bought a battery for mine today, I have a f/1.8 nifty fifty and some 75-200 zoom. Never used anything like this before but I'll figure it out.
you may have bought one already by now. my friend has one and it is pretty nice. he takes pictures with it all the time.
>>2722286
I love the AE-1, reliable and nice. 28mm f/2.8 lens is one of the best.
