Hi, beginner here, I come from k, anyhow, I recently took these pictures with my phone (samsung galaxy note 1).
I know that I could probably do way better, but I know jack shit about photography.
Any pointers for a newfag? I'm considering getting a camera soon, anywhere i can read up and study photography?
This would mostly be done for fun.

Read the sticky.
>>2721200
I don't get, what's to see here? It's just tight crop, high ISO photos of a gun
>>2721205
I'm reading through that right now.
>>2721208
I want advice for a newfag how to make my photo's better
>>2721212
Delete the photos. Read books on composition and art/photo theory. Come back in three months when you've read the books. Post some photos, you'll get heavily criticized. Take in the criticism, learn from it, post more photos, get criticized but this time a little less. Repeat ad infinitum
>>2721217
I'm also a newfag and read the sticky,
>Please post images that are JPG format, smaller than 1 MB, and/or about 1000 pixels on the longest side
How do I resize my Large JPGs from 5000x3000 ish to the 1K max and reduce their MB?
>>2721224
Most people here use Lightroom or an equivalent imaging software. When you export a file it'll give you an option for how long you want the image on it's longest size, or for how large you want the file
>>2721210
I read through it, I didn't really get anything from it.
>>2721224
Install ifranview

You need more light. Like, a lot more light than you think you need. Like a brightly lit room with four large windows at 2pm on a clear day. Your phone has a very small sensor, and when there isn't a lot of light, the image quality drops dramatically.
Also, look at photos of guns that you enjoy, and take the time to slow down and examine every aspect of the photo, to see what makes it good. The light, the color, the background, the textures, the perspective and angle of the camera, etc. Take note of these things and work to emulate them on your own. Taking good photos takes a bit more effort than it looks like, so be willing to put a bit of work in to get the shots you want, but know that it will pay off if you do it mindfully.
>>2721217
Moop, telling people to read a book will never ever help. Stop.
>>2721229
I see how to resize but not how to lower the MB size.
>>2721238
Resizing will automatically drop the file size as well.
>>2721238
Resizing does that for you. 1000 px on the longest side will be around 1 mb.
>>2721240
Test.

Nicely done.
>>2721244
Appreciate the help.
>>2721235
Thanks for the tips, i'll try to put those to use.
How much should i know in the technical sense of cameras? Is the important part mostly how i perceive the photo? Also testing resize.

If you have a real camera with control over things like aperture, ISO, and shutter speed, then knowing about them is pretty important. If you are just using your phone, it doesn't do you much good, so focus on other aspects, like lighting and composition.
The metal on a gun is reflective (as you're seeing here) so you'll have to rotate the gun, (or the light) to try to find ways to make the reflections fall in places that aren't distracting, or that help to make the shape of the gun look good. This example has a distracting reflectoin, and because your light source is small, the reflection is very bright, but also, the rest of the gun is very dark, because your camera is trying to handle the bright spot in the middle. If the light had been on the far side of the gun, the reflection would be along the slide and hammer, rather than near the trigger, and it might have looked better. Also, still more light. Lots lots more.

How would i go about getting started on lighting? It seems like that is a cornerstone. Because all i have right now is my phone to take photos with, but i may get a camera for christmas.
>>2721254
thanks for the info, i appreciate it, too bad i only have a smartphone to take pics with.
>>2721258
The same basic theory still applies no matter what you're taking photos with. Some of my best shots are with my smartphone. Just learn you camera's weakness and compensate for it

Google "the strobist"
Since you have an android, download (Manual camera) on the playstore. It's 99 cents but it lets you control practically everything on your camera.
/k/ in here? Hell yea
better be a pre-cerberus remmy

It's a 1968 Wingmaster, action is smooth as butter, i would never buy a new remington.
Shout out to /k/ from another scrublord.
