Really? It's just miserable, dark and cold. 4 hours of gloomy semi-light with no sun, screw that. Only Delta 3200 and/or flash cutting it sucks too. Glad the darkest day of winter is soon, and there was some snow today finally.
I mean I take pictures still because it's fun, but I'm not enjoying the weather.

You might recognize me from the handful of shows I've been. I was in two shows this year one in October at Hotshops and the I was in the Bemis Charity Auction last month. Last year I was in that surprisingly good Everything Paper show at UNO's art gallery and fews years before that I was in the Artist Cooperative Gallery emerging artist show.
Have you gone to that show at Garden of the Zodiac yet? It's not bad and it's interesting to see what Vera likes to put in it. She bought one of them. Also I don't know if it's still up but the Durham Museum and had a show of the BBC wildlife photos of year on display and it was good. The car show at the Kaneko is completely legit by the way and comes down this week if you haven't gone yet.
I have a show at the library's gallery in sept/oct and I'm in talks with a handful of galleries here in Omaha about doing a show. None of them are a really good fit for the mantises so I might not do it.

When did you find them with those lights actually on? They always closed when I walk by.
You should get over the Kaneko thing. It's one of the best art spaces in Omaha and holds up really admirably when compared other space across the country.
Why the disdain for art shows? I'll give you that the old market scene makes you want to kill yourself because it's all incestuous coops but how are you going to show if you don't enter stuff?
You swing by gallery 1516 yet? The space will be quite excellent once they sort out the lighting issues. They've partnered with MONA which is interesting. If they can put on shows anything like that Nebraska only show at the Joslyn they'll be decent.

It started when they tore down Louis. I wanted to get a lot of the old neon signs from around town before they were gone. Then it sort of expanded to a neon project in general.
That photo was taken either last winter or during CWS.
Anyhow, I helped Kaneko do his opening when he bought that warehouse. I didn't spend much time with him or his wife, but the rest of the staff/interns/etc just sort for ground my gears. Left a bad flavor in my mouth ever since.
I dislike art shows in general because again, I typically go to see a friend or whoever at their opening and I end up really bored and talking to pretentious blowhards.
I never enter my stuff out of a combination of not liking what I produce and only wanting to produce it for myself and my close friends. I guess it's just not my scene.

You should still go to the shows even if you're not going to talk to the people at the Kaneko. Take advantage of what is available. I'll give you that the Omaha scene is disproportionately pretentious for the art around here but you should still go and talk to people to find the ones worth talking to.
