Does anyone fuck with toy cameras? Thinking of gifting my brother a Diana F+ kit for Christmas. What does /p/ think of them?
>>
>>2715928

theyre real shitty on purpose. they are literal meme cameras for hipsters (hipster tax included).

get him a small film dslr with a 50mm and a handful of film. same money, but much better buy.
>>
>>2715928
Sure, if you really hate your brother this much.. go for it then.

Otherwise, get him a nice film compact to fuck with.
>>
>>2715928
i was given one. literally shite.

i cant imagine why anyone would pay 50 quid for a plastic piece of shit.

you can buy a fed 4 for the same money. still has the hipster vibe but is actually usable.
>>
The fuji install is really fun, but its not really a toy camera, film compacts are fun as well. Minolta had a line of cameras called the Vectis, they were awesome.
>>
My opinion on them is based on my sole lomography camera a Diani Mini, they are more concerned with how the camera looks then they are with making a good camera. Just a little more effort could have made the thing so much better.

So there are no redeeming qualities whatsoever? Mkay.
>>
>>2715979
I wouldn't go that far. Just be aware that they are very nuanced cameras, sometimes you want that sometimes you don't. I wouldn't mind a Belair or a Lca-120 and if they were a bit cheaper I would have one.
>>
Rather give him an Olympus Mju II. He'll be able to take good photos instead of strugling with a slow and difficult to use camera. A Fuji polaroid camera is also another good option.
>>

cool camera for party pictures, very unpredictable results

instax?

These are the hip, shitty Photographs that must be taken with a Diana. Do not buy. Full Cancer.

when i think of all the good film that has been wasted on lomo cameras, i get a bit mad.

they should have made 35mm cameras that made square photos. like 50 photos per roll, same shit quality, everyone wins. but no, they had to use medium format film, the plebs.
>>
>>2716219
half frame cameras are similar to what you're talking about. They get 48 or 72 shots on 24 and 36 exposure rolls respectively, but they make tiny portrait shots instead of square format shots. They're kind of cool but got almost immediately replaced by full frame compacts
>>
>>2716219
just be glad that lomo pushed medium format film sales as long as it has.
>>
>>2716223

i know half frames. i meant if they wanted to do a 1:1 camera, why not 35mm 1:1. if you want shit quality and grainy stuff, then go 35mm.
>>
Agat 18k, half frame 35mm, cheap on eBay, you're welcome
>>
>>2715928
Not worth it at all, I've purchased one for someone as a gift before.
Fun for the first time, after that it's pretty much just an expensive paperweight/hipster bait.
Use the money instead and buy a good slr and some glass to go with it, fuck with the money you save you can probably get a pack of rubbers also so you can be safe when you fuck your brother.
>>
>>2716225
This.

>>2716475
This! I have one and it's brilliant. Guesstimation in all the right places, has that toy camera vibe but is actually pretty solid. Easy to take apart and fix yourself too if something gets wonky (I broke the film advance on mine and fixed it).

The Diana Mini is just shit really. The Holga is alright, I have one (glass lens & WLF) but don't use it much.
>>
>>2716219
Doesn't the Diana Mini actually shoot half frames and squares? I think it does. It only lets you shoot 36 squares though with bigger gaps in between, which is stupid.

Putting that aside I got a nice Sears Ricoh based SLR for $20 on ebay, works like a charm.

You look less like a faggot and more like a hipster but like the cool kind with friends with an SLR anyways

hello /mu/! enjoying being a beta wigger trash?

sorry, I apologize for my tone there, that wasn't constructive, and it undercut the value of that particular video.

This hipster talks too slow and it's saying anything.

I'm fucking triggered by this hipster trying to de-legitimize my use of the word hipster.

Fuck these meme cameras. It'll get used for one or two nights out and then end up in a drawer for 10 years before it gets accidentally cracked.

You can get a used SLR from a thrift shop and stick a meme lens on it. The lens will get thrown in a drawer but the camera will remain useful.
>>
I was going to get my sister one of these but ended up getting her a pokemon camera that put a weird border around the photos instead for under £5. I had money left over to buy her some decent film for her other cameras and she got some good results from it that not every other wanker is taking with their urban outfitters lomo shit.

I got given the konstruktor lomo SLR kit, was pretty surprised that it didn't come with a roll of film. Haven't even bothered building it
>>
>>2715979
no not really. shit lens, bad film advance mechanism. low tolerance with regards to shutter speed.
>>
get a chaika instead
also quirky, but no hipster tax
