Recently developed pictures from my Japan trip this summer. Still have around 6 undeveloped rolls but no money right now so will have to wait to get those developed sometimes.
C&C as always appreciated

Lens and camera? Looks like a disposable shot.

I think this was with the 50mm 1.7 MD Rokkor. Camera is a Minolta SRT-101

actually got them developed and scanned in a lab in Japan. Do you mean that the pictures aren't as sharp as they should be?

Some shots were accidental double exposures, which I don't know exactly how that could've happened since the shutter should not fire if the film isn't advanced

Is this upside down ? Very cool shot. >>2715646
Too bus. Would have been better with focus on water and shallower field of depth.
>>2715650
Too bad the mt range is cut on the left. Water on both edges would have better framed the photo. Very Important for this type of minimalistic style.
>>2715652
The road sign kills it. I like what you're going for though. Maybe make this b/w?

Much better composition here. I like it. An interesting subject in the middle of the frame would have made it next level.
>>2715662
thanks man, appreciate the feedback
>Is this upside down ?
yeah that's how it was originally on the CD and I kinda liked and went with it (similar with this picture)
>Too bad the mt range is cut on the left
I didn't even consider that. But now that you say it, it actually makes sense. There was a small island I actually cropped out on the right, I guess I tried to frame it like that when I shot it.
>The road sign kills it
yes unfortunately. Very nice little traditional town but loads of those signs everywhere. Will try a B&W conversion sometimes
>>2715667
appreciated. I will try to focus on composition more, but those two pictures are more snapshit style
>>2715668
a homeless guy actually walked past the building, but I missed the focus unfortunately so yeah. Thanks though
>>2715669
I see, might be actually. Got them scanned at Yodobashi camera, while the later ones I'm posting where scanned at a local camera store where I live, I think those came out a bit sharper.
>You may want to check that the advancing mechanism is working properly
Well it should be, it's just maybe 3-4 shots that have those double exposures, the rest is fine
You went to Japan yourself? Is that in Tokyo?

Yeah, the 1.7 MD nifty fifty isn't the sharpest lens around, but it should perform much better than that. Looks like a really shoddy lab scan with maximum sharpening applied, may even be that they scanned the prints and not the film itself. A bit surprising, Japanese labs are really professional in my experience. Not a big deal though as long as you have the negatives, just have them scanned again at some place decent, or get your own scanning setup.
>>2715655
Better check that the advancing mechanism is working properly.
>>2715670
Sorry, deleted my post because that photo isn't actually the 1.7 MD, realized it as soon as I posted (was taken with a Contax T2). I've been to Japan several times, and I've used Yodobashi's services, but not with scans (I have my own scanner at home).
Here's a legit shot with the 1.7 MD, Minolta X-700, on Superia Premium.

Plustek Opticfilm 8100. Costs around $300, but it pays itself back pretty quickly since lab scans tend to be expensive, at least around here. Plus you get a lot more control over the result.
And before the resident DSLR scannerfag smells a mention of a film scanner, yes, you can also use a DSLR with a macro lens to scan film, if you have one.
>>2715676
Yeah, could've done better. The crowd was a lot worse than what it appears on the photo, a huge horde of Chinese tourists piled up everywhere, messed up a lot of the compositions I wanted to do. Didn't expect it from a small town festival in backwoods Hiroshima, but shit happens I guess. What I learned is, I really need to be bolder around these hordes.
That's all folks!

fuck off wanabe amateur
>>2715999
OP here. I think I kinda have to agree with that anon on that one, would've been a bit nicer with him a tad bit further to the left. Or maybe should've left that guy out completely. Oh well
Any more C&C perhaps?
>>2715638
I like this. Maybe crop a bit tighter to reduce that dead space on top, just not bu too much.
>>2715641
Cool, took me by surprise.
>>2715650
Dull and foggy weather made many of my Japan pictures dull. There is a potential in that, but it has to excel in composition. I don't think this photo does, it's just a dull photo of some water and islands.
>>2715655
If double exposure was unintentional, then this is a pretty happy accident.
>>2715656
About 0.3s too late.
>>2715659
>>2715660
>>2715661
Scenes had potential, the results are rather snapshotty, unfortunately.
>>2715664
I like this kind of shots. It's good. As other anon said, something in the frame to break the symmetry could have made it amazing (or shit).
>>2715670
Meh.
>>2715673
Not too bad.
>>2715674
The muh borkeh shot. I don't like the shot but I like the borkeh on that glass, gonna have to look into trying one myself.
>>2715675
This could have worked if you had a perfect symmetry there, but it's not and something is jarring about it. Otherwise, cool.
>>2715677
Like the colour contrast, but something puts me off about it. Maybe it's that the bridge looks lopsided, even though it isn't.
>>2715680
Ok this I like.
>>2715681
This too, but I wish you framed a notch to the left.
>>2715682
Nice, dynamic and colourful. Maybe the best so far.
>>2715684
>>2715685
I got sick of looking at my own pictures of people's back so I can't judge those objectively.
>>2715686
Cut off foot ruins it.
>>2715687
Poor composition, pointless tilt.
>>2715689
Unbalanced and uninteresting. You'd need a tilt-shift to pull that off.
>>2715690
Why the fuck did you cut off the top of that hill?
Pretty cool overall. Hope you enjoyed your trip. Makes me want to plan another one for myself.
And good job shooting film. I brought a film body the first few times but never got myself to use it because there was just so much stuff around I didn't want to miss, so I kept shooting tons of digital snapshits instead.
>>2719213
hey only saw your comment now, appreciate that you took your time to give me feedback. Seems like a lot of pictures had potential but could've done better, I'll keep that in mind for the future.
Yes shooting film was really great. At some point during the trip I just didn't feel like shooting with my DSLR anymore and I got that cheap full manual Minolta and used that one almost exclusively. Also taught me a lot about exposure and how to operate a camera manually without relying on any modes
>>2720936
You're welcome. And have a free bump.
I'm really starting to feel I need to go back to primarily film. Looking at my photos over the years I feel like going 99% digital has de-evolved my skills.
Here's my take on "ship with mountains in the background on a dull weather day" from May this year.
