I've seen a lot of centered/symmetrical compositions on /p/ lately. Not that there's anything wrong with centering subjects, but when you do it in every shot it shows a lack of creativity.
I get that you're going for a 'moody' feel by giving these an unnaturally dark sky, but to me there is nothing moody about this place. As a result they just end up looking underexposed.
>>2711193
The most underexposed of the set, and you are way too far away for the subject to look impressive
>>2711196
see pic. that s-curve tho
>>2711198
>>2711201
There isnt anything to look at in these
>>2711236
This is OK but the building is too small/far away to be imposing. Your eyes just fall onto the rock pools in the foreground because 1: it is an area of high contrast, and 2: because it takes up more space in the image than the subject itself.

Shitty light but I guess you couldn't help that.

Good god. The shot you're proposing would be incredibly boring and bland. It lives off of having the three structures in optically equal parts. I agree with your exposure though.

What I proposed is just natural. Otherwise, pretty much the entire right third of the image is completely pointless. Meanwhile, the section of the image with the highest contrast - and therefore where your eye will most likely end up - is the boats on the far left. Ultimately the image is incredibly unbalanced towards the left, while there is nothing at all on the right.
I made a half-assed attempt at showing what I mean. Notice how the curve of the groyne seems to nicely surround the boats (remember the boats are the subject), and there is no empty space. If this had been done in camera by taking a few steps to the left, then the boats could be slightly more centralised, making them more powerful and the image would be LESS boring and bland.
>>
>>2711815
whatever you did makes this shot look fuzzy and unfocused as shit
>>
>>2711815
What you proposed is shitty composition. It is one of the most basic rules of compositions to not have lines proceed directly into a corner, as you propose. Idjit.
>>
>>2711828
I distorted it and scaled it up, so yeah its gonna look like turd. It was only proof of concept
>>2711830
I've never heard this before and I'm fairly certain you're trolling. Ever heard of a photographer called Henri Cartier-Bresson?
>>
>>2711837
It's literally everywhere. Google stuff like:
"composition avoid lines corners"

You will find decent sources and familiar names
>>
>>2711830
>'rules'
>composition

there's tons of great photos, never mind other types of art, that have lines that go to corners

although for /p/ level art101 that may be good advice
>>
lel
just avoid mergers, that's all

Your change ruined the original composition, leaving only little to the eye bar following the s. You're adding to much weight to the left, taking away the contrast of structure between the two sides.

Looks like alot of people are saying this is too dark. In my opinion that's totally fine, use of density to set a tone is a great narrative tool in photography. I think it has the potential to be a fantastic shot, but I think the symmetry you were going for is broken by the buildings tapering off more quickly to the left than the right. The middle leading line is off center as well. Overall a really interesting composition to my eye, but some of the elements just didn't quite fall into place. Could possibly benefit from some cropping to take off that unbalanced empty space on the left.

I disagree.

The sand and the beach on the right in that version is dead space with nothing interesting in it. The recomposed version puts more emphasis on the walkway and the boats/seaweed, etc. which is on the left side and is more interesting. Regardless, this is not a great photo, but I think the recomposed version is the stronger of the two.
>>
>>2712190
The contrast you are referring to is still very much present in the recomposed version. You don't need all that extra beach to the right in order to maintain it.

>You're adding to much weight to the left
The original problem is that there was too much weight on the left; I'm suggesting to bring it all closer to the centre.
Let's look at this from a graphic design approach instead. Let's say I've produced 2 draft company logos which are loosely based on this composition (HL3 confirmed). Now try looking at each of the images individually by covering one of them with your hand.
*Hopefully* you'll see that the logo on the right fills up the frame much more elegantly and is more dynamic, as well as bringing the interesting part of the logo (the 3 dots) closer to the centre.
If you think the left logo looks better then I'm not sure how to help you. Try asking /gd/ what they reckon?

I do understand that and I'd agree with it on the level you're proposing. But the OP has color and structure where your logo has empty space. I'm saying the former is more important to me in this case than having the leading lines work out perfectly.
