......in Europe...it seems.
Samsung just announced it will stop selling cameras (and camcorders) in Germany and The Netherlands.
Still uncertain if other countries are also affected, but it's likely that at least all of Europe will become Samsung camera free.
I, as a Nikon shooter, am a bit sad.
The Samsung sensors seem very nice.
But maybe Samsung will still make sensors...maybe for Nikon?

TIL.
Yours sincerely,

Tilbage til Reddit

It's not a DSLR, it's a mirrorless.
But apparently the NX1 has failed and Samsung is quitting the camera market at least partially.
>>2706863
why didn't you buy a samsung?
>Samsung is kill
>Check german eBay sellers
>No price cuts
>There should be price cuts if they were kill
>>2706867
If you think TIL originated on Reddit, maybe you should be the one to go back there.
>>2706890
check the camera stores.
firesale pls. gimme those f/2.8 zooms and the NX1 for cheap and I won't give a shit if Samsung's Camera division dies.
>>2706863
>finally makes a camera that doesn't completely suck
>finally something a photographer might want
>bangin sensor
>sweet 2.8 zoom
>initially slow sales that were just starting to pick up despite past reputation for a shit company
>pulls out because cold feet
You know what they say about too many gooks in the kitchen.
>>2706935
>open source the firmware
>use camera forever
>>2706962
it's not cold feet.
it's the gook jew.
>>2706975
The NX1 is already pretty damn good as is. Samsung has been pushing monthly firmware updates. But yeah if they do open source it then that thing could become a monster. The processor in that thing should be better than anything else on the market right now, considering it's the only one able to encode 4K to h.265.

Problem is with the Samsung, is that it's Samsung. Even Samsung knows the weakness of the camera is that it's made by Samsung. They link from the camera page to B&H's site selling fotodiox lens adapters for the camera.
This is the problem for any alternative, you have to buy into their system.
It's a shame because it's such a great camera wasted.
What they need to do is what Kodak did back in the day, Kodak made their full frame dSLRs in both Nikon and Canon mount.
Imagine if it was fully EF compatible, either as a dSLR instead of mirrorless, or with a much shorter mount that was just EF, and an extension tube that passed the contacts through would let you use EF lenses no issue. Or vice versa with Nikon.
These cameras would be a lot more viable in the market.
>>2706890
Yes, that is an indication they will continue to do business in Asia and America.
As excess stock can be shipped there.
Or maybe they just close down continent by continent exactly to avoid price cuts.
>>2707214
Agreed.
I would consider a Samsung if it had a Nikon F mount.
In fact it could be very interesting as a transition between DSLR's and mirrorless cameras.
Not sure if licenses allow this.
I think Nikon mounts are public (lots of scientific equipment uses F mount), but Canon mounts aren't.

everyone knows this faggot
it's because they use it with the most regularity in that faggy fucking way
whore
>>2707239
That sounds absolutely stupid, and if it were true, their older phones wouldn't be available, even on carriers
>>2707064
The processor is fixed function hardware, you probably wouldn't be able to do much with it.
>>2707214
samsung should be an oem camera maker.
A Samsung camera with EF/EF-S mount would fuck Canon's face in.

Well, they should have done what Sony did... partnered with Zeiss (or Sigma or whoever) for the optics.
Seems to be working for Sony.

Not really a matter of imagination either, since again that's what Sony can do now, and I think they helped for this functionality to happen. At the very least, somehow it got much better on the A7 II and A7R II very recently, and I don't really think it was a breakthrough by 3rd parties...
Samsung would now have to do that and maybe more. Perhaps an open specification Android camera would work? Nobody really is running decent in-camera software yet, and they have strengths there.

like the DIGIC 4?
>>2707310
Face - may be, depending on what you imply under "face".
Sales - hell no, even in non-pro sector.
>>2707214
They should add a Minolta and Canon AF controllers and sell AF adapter tubes.
>>2707254
Samsung isn't closing their phone division.
Just their camera division.
>>2707241
Correct, Fuji did it for their S-pro line for a number of years. F-mount is great if you don't want to pay to use a mount with lots of quality glass.
