Nah man the meteor shower wasn't quite that good, each one is from a separate 15 second exposure. I took around 30 exposures, I planned on taking a hell of alot more but I underestimated how long it takes to set up your composition and get the foreground shot, while in complete darkness. I got out to the location at 3am and it was already far too bright at 4am.

Well the image contains six separate images, one for the foreground, and the other 5 for each meteor, so layers and shit were used in PS. Other than that basically just usual things, noise reduction, cropping, sharpening etc.

The composition is off, there's more showing on the right making the stream off-centre. A little less sky and more of the foreground shown would look nicer, but that's a minor detail. The rocks are over-exposed and the highlights are blown out, also the blue fringing at the top of the image is distracting. Overall it's nothing special, but it's certainly not terrible.

I made some quick adjustments just to give you an idea of what you can get the image looking like. I see you have Lightroom 6.0, which is what I used, so you can easily do this yourself. I fiddled with the WB a little, boosted the contrast and a few colours, reduced the highlights and cropped the image.

Sugar tier. Nothing interesting to look at, no real sense of space or feeling, poor composition that leads you from the bottom right to the top right and then out of the frame. Flat colors, in bad light. Cluttered and distracting. It took me a full 10 seconds to even realize the dock was broken, 1) because there's so much useless stuff to look at in the frame that I couldn't find it, and 2) because a dock is so boring that my eyes didn't care to look at it long enough to realize that it might have something unique about it.
You need to be much more selective about your perspective, and with what you allow into your frame. Stop and think "there's a bush here. Does that bush help to sell my intent? Does it help to communicate what I'm trying to get the viewer to see? What about these posts? Should they end right at the horizon line, leaving a very cluttered and busy "ground" and a completely empty sky? Are there any leading lines that will affect my viewer? There are. Do they lead to anywhere useful or should I try to remove them from the frame, or use them in a positive way? What am I actually trying to show people? Is that obvious in this composition and framing?"

it's his first pic with a camera with a degree of control he's not used to. he's probably never had simultaneous control of aperture, iso, and shutter speed. he was probably just experimenting and excited to fiddle around with a camera that gave him such an increased degree of control. you can infer this from his comment. don't you remember your sense of excitement when you got your first good camera? so just comment on the technical merits of the exposure, focus, etc.
