one of these, not bad lens, autofocus is pretty bad especially in low light, purple fringing makes me cringe, fairly easy to break, build quality is okay, but the bokeh is great and the lens is very sharp wide open,

fantastic for its price

1.8 50mm Sony emount £200
1.8 50mm Pentacon m42 mount £20 (surprisingly good)
2.8 30mm Sigma emoun £130 (fucking great)
2.8 135mm Pentacon £40 (gig lens)
>>
>>2706128
af in low light is your camera's fault.
get a mirrorless instead.
>>
>>2706140
i mean not really, the af on that lens isnt great, my 24-70 2.8 L always has great focus

also
>good autofocus
>mirrorless

>>

is dat sum microsoft sidewinder i see?

Aren't most of the best performing low light autofocus on mirrorless cameras now?
>>
>>2706147
it is.
>>
>>2706147
yeah, mainly the sony's but the a7s is more for video

arent nikons pretty good for low light?
>>
>>2706147
>implying mirrorless cameras autofocus confidently at EV -3
>>
>>2705911
Nah, it hasn't been modified so it still has the weird bayonet mount to c-mount. Best way to go would be to mount it on an A7 but i've been using it on my xe-1 so i haven't been using it full frame.
Oh, and i got it for free since it was mounted on some sort of old x-ray machine that was being thrown away from the hospital my dad used to work at, so there's that.
>>
>>2706154
I'm not very well versed but I used to work on a camera section in a department store and some of the Sony and Panasonic mirrorless could do crazy things. There was a Panny that seemed like it could focus in total darkness.
>>
>>2706154
If I had the money I'd get an A7s. Low natural light is my thing. I'm getting better at using flash to look natural but my eyes see a lot of great shots that very few cameras could capture.
>>
>>2706047
didn't you pick that up for like 5 dollars?
>>
>>2706181
Cool. Make sure to take care of it. These lenses have a tendency to fog, which can damage the lens. If it gets foggy, send it in for CLA
>>
>>2705950
It's a damn comfy strap and a joke between me and my shooting buddy.

Radiation poisoning is a sickness after being exposed to large amount of radiation. The radiation from this one is about 20 μSv/h at 10cm. In other words, you should not sleep with it under your pillow, but since radiation drops quadratically with distance, at 10m it becomes less than .2 μSv/year, which is like passing through airport security in the US, if the scanner doesn't stop and irradiate you much more.

Fastest soviet-made 50, Zenitar-M 1.7 i know it's not that fast, but I pair it with 5Dc and it's good enough, really sharp and fun to use, Ultron design, way better then Helios 44 but no the swirly bokeh. 60 Euros.

I only have two lenses.

One is the Nikon D3200 kit lens, a Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens. Its widest aperture is f/3.5 at 18mm focal length.

Another is a Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED VR2. Its widest aperture is f/4 at 50mm focal length.

Which one would be considered the faster glass?

Sorry if this question does not belong here.

I bought a 105mm f/1.8 nikkor from some old indian guy off craigslist. Says his father in law owned it and its crazy crisp :0
>>
>>2707356
At 1.4 it is a bit soft, but still lots of detail, from 2-2.8 it seriously humiliates the 18-55 and it feela better Than the 55 1.8 Super takumar, my previous fastest lens.

Smaller F numbers mean larger aperture.
Larger aperture means more light.
More light means faster exposure.
Hence Fast Glass.
If your aperture is greater than f2.8 then it's generally not a desirable lens unless it's something like a tilt shift. There are some f4 zoom lenses which are still desirable because they maintain the f-stop you set as you zoom in and out.
>>
>>2706234
What's the purpose of that thing?
>>
>>2707560
As in soviet design? They have made faster 50's. Like the Jupiter-3, but that is based on the german sonnar.

J3 was only in M39 mount, not M42, there was a 1,4 but it never went into a mass production. Zenitar is a Voigtländer Ultron [simillar to Planar] design, not an original soviet though, but it's better than Biotar which was used in Helios
>>
>>2708017
A M39-M42 converter is literally a metal ring, nig. It IS the fastest soviet mass-produced lens.
>>
>>2708022
It can't focus to infinity using an m39>m42>EOS adapter, it works as a macro lens
>>
>>2707702
>smaller
No. It's a denominator. x/2 is more than x/222. Likewise f divided by 2 is greater than f divided by 222.
>>

>>
>>2708652
If you're irrationally afraid of radiation you should steer clear of bananas, being close to other people/animals/plants (C14 isotope ahoy), being in cellars/basements/underground in general (radon gas), anything made from granite or the fucking planet Earth. Unless you're using your lenses as impromptu buttplugs (as >>2707364
patiently indicated assuming I was being serious) you've no bigger a threat from themmas from the aformentioned sources. Get your fast-ish prime and stop making up excuses.

I have the CV 35 f/1.2 (1st model) and the Canon 50 f/1.2 LSM lenses. They be fast and stuff dawg.

I don't really use my Canon SLRs or Epson R-D1 much any more though. I put all my lenses onto my EOS M with adapters. I love that little thing.

those 50mm smc takumars are still pretty great

is that the 1.8. 1.7, or 1.4
>>
>>2708044
most of the soviet m39 lenses were only m39 in the screw but were pretty much m42 in flange distance. i know personally my mir 1 lens works this way.

Not fast for a 50 but an excellent lens nevertheless.

Fast glass is great and everyfink but in this day it's just not as important.

>>
>>2710053
A good macro lens is not just a simple lens focusing closer. It is also corrected for close focus. Normal lenses are corrected for infinity.
Leave that lens in one piece and get a dedicated macro
