>Want to get into astrophotography
>I live in England
Will it even be possible in these lighting conditions?

I'm similar, I had an idea to find out the light spectrum that the light pollution is minimum at, and then use intense filtering etc to only observe the sky at that wavelength

No idea if it's helpful, no astro myself
Yeah sure, the strong value of the pound makes travel cheaper for you than nearly anyone else in the world!
Enjoy your holidays :)
I tried this yesterday for the first time coincidentally, and completely failed. My tripod is just too crap and there was a storm going on so pretty much all photos were out of focus. Focusing in general is hard as fuck when doing astro. Same goes with light pollution here, thank g-d I'm based in southern Germany, the next somewhat less-polluted spot is like an hour drive away, in the middle of the black forest. But I feel you, OP.

Drive to Wales. Wherever you are, it won't be more than 4-5 hours and you can find cheap places really easily.
>>2705814
This
Snowdonia is reakky dark.
Where are you?
>>2705772
How accurate are these maps anyway? I live in a supposedly yellow zone which is actually located in buckfuck nowhere. You can see the milky way with bare eyes under good conditions.
>tfw near Amsterdam
I'm so fucked
>>2705839
Go somewhere actually dark and your jaw will hit the floor.
>>2705859
What if I don't like stars because I'm not a nerd?
>>2705862
I don't know man, I'm not qualified to look after children with autism.
>>2705864
wrecked
Am I doing this right?
>>2706001
Apart from the lack of Milky Way and remoteness.

too much pollution
not long enough exposure
if you want the foreground in, expose for it in a separate shot to the sky

Those filters exist already. Of course they work best in dark areas, as there is still interference in dark areas that isnt from artificial light.
Never really shot stars before, but gave it a try a month or so ago.
This is 3 or 4 images averaged into 1 (less noise) in Photoshop.
Pentax K5 @ ISO 6400, exposure 20 seconds/shot. Bare minimum curves adjustment.
Shot from a "dark blue" area on darksitefinder, bordering gray, in the direction of gray.
>>2706030
....And this is the same location, same direction.
Pentax K5, ISO 12800, 5-6 20 sec exposures combined.
Main difference is this one has been raped with wonky curves adjustment to bring out, well, everything.
welp, forgot actual image. Here.

I like it man. That's about as good as I can get.

>tfw Breda
>tfw doesn't matter where you live in this country
it's all shit.
>tfw only 10 minutes from central London
I haven't seen a star in about 8 months.
;_;

if you're talking about shooting those nice photos of milky way, you could probably shoot slightly visible pictures somewhere far away from big cities. This picture is best i've got ~10km from smaller city, so i bet it's possible somewhere in England as well - but i doubt you'll get significantly better sky anywhere in your small-but-populated country.
If you're talking about shooting some nice photos of bright objects from telescope (like planets), it's probably entirely possible even in the middle of the city. Planets are very bright.
I just checked and my photo was taken in 'green' area on this map, right against yellow one - i think it should give you some insight on where you can move to see some sky in your location. Damn, i have blue and even gray areas in my range, i'll definitely travel there one day.
