These two are both nice, but the others seem a bit pointless.
Also these are all WAY oversharpened.
Try adding a 1.5px Gaussian blur before you downscale.

oh man that was a total bitch, pic related was the RAW that came straight from the GR, you can see how i had to differentiate all the other different colors, like me, the street, the fence, to do this, i would select these objects and HEAVILY and painstakingly use selective color and color balance to make every unique thing pop out

>>2701870
I live in Glenrock, Wyoming. No, all the stars you see are legit

>>2701878
its what i use my GR with the most, it stays (mostly) clean under 400 ISO, so i just gotta sit and let it take 2 minute photos at 100 to make creamy smooth images

>>2701915
that was one of the big problems with these pics, i didnt add a single bit of sharpening to any of them, and its a bitch to see how edgy they get when you scale down, thanks for the tip

>>2702041
and yeah, this totally, Glenrock, Wyoming is a tiny town of maybe 2600 people, so stars and galaxies are all i see every night

Yes, quite a bit of different things in PS. I couldn't tell you exactly what I did as I don't even really know myself. This was one of my first attempts at astro and editing so I used some videos to help me. Mostly this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i22duUtI5Iw
and a little from this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOAmP7A_x6c

Here is the raw image. I was dumb and left my red light on my headlamp on

thats why I use slide film and long exposures

was thinking of trying this, what settings do you have it on?

for my Ricoh i have it on f2.8, at ISO 100, and shutter speed for 25 seconds (thats my lens limit before star trails appear) and a tripod

go somewhere dark, but with street/night lights nearby

is having something in the foreground recommended, or does it still turn out well just showing the sky

At least pick a pose or something... "Look I'm standing there" may be great for people looking for proof that you did a thing, but as a photography, you want it to be a good photo. You're interacting with some very cool environments that most people (and even most photographers/models) never will, so put in a bit of thought and creativity and take some actual photos up there, if you're actually trying for photography.

I tried to adjust this so it looks the way it did to my eye when I was there. As a result, the colors aren't accurate here, they're simulating scotopic vision because it was so much more beautiful to my rods than the camera respresented.

How did you bring out the stars in post? The before photo has a mostly black sky but the after version is incredible. How did you do it? Multiple image composite?
>>
>>2704680
The Ricoh GR supports DNG raw files, and they are INSANELY flexible, hell when i pulled those stars out i didnt know they would be that prolific

that and it also helps to have a good, clear night sky with good weather

i live in rural Wyoming, so every night is a bursting galaxy above my head

there could be a number of different things you are doing wrong/cant help

>try opening your aperture a bit more
>you could be near a city/in a city with bright lights
>you arent exposing long enough
>you are in absolute darkness with no light nearby during a dark night with no good starlights
>try pulling the blacks as much as you can in raw development

but i also see in your EXIF that the brightness is -10.1 EV

Arvada fag here, shame the foreground isnt really exposed or this would be fucking flawless m8
>>

Unfortunately with an OMD EM5 when you do long enough exposures to get the foreground like that you get hot pixels and shitdick load of noise. It's honestly kind of a serious bummer, I'm shopping for a new cam.
>>
>>2705039
for real? even at 100-200 iso? at like 1 minute exposure? that is a fucking bummer

long exposures lead to a hot sensor, which leads to hot pixels and noise.

ISO 200 is the minimum, and I get hot pixels like a mad bitch. It's just not cut out for super long shots like that. I brought up the foreground a bit for you, but it's too noisy to do anything rad with.

What's your trick for focusing? I set the manual focus to infinity but the stars appear to be out of focus.

There's a major city just underneath the photo which is where the light pollution is coming from.

not him but focusing to ∞ doesn't work with stars for some reason, they actually requires a little finesse.

Also, I see your exposure was 20secs, depending on your focal length, anything over 10-15 seconds could result in visible star trailing
>>
>>2705055

strange it doesnt, i set the manual focus to infinite and it does the trick for me. And in the first photo, the large source of light is a city 20 miles away, so you are literally doing the same thing i am

>>2705056
and i have found the max is about 25 seconds
>>
>>2705056
I'll try again tonight, what do you suggest? Try and Autofocus on the sky?

apparently there's a formula where you can figger it out based on your focal length. when i shoot 18mm (crop sensor) 10sex seems to work but by 15-20 i gets a little bleary

good luck with that, one of it's downfalls is how shit its low light focusing is

maybe you are doing something wrong?

pic related is how i set up my snap focusing and manual focusing

i think your problem is that you have it on inifinite focusing, but you dont have snap focus set to make sure it is locked to that
