I want to make some color photographs with black and white RGB filters like pic related. What's the best/cheapest option for color filters? I was going to try colored cellophane but it looks blurry as shit. Is it really worth spending $20 a peice for screw-on filters or is there a better way?

idunno how this works really but i want to know. also, you can't just scan the B&W pics and do it in software? like i said idunno how it works so i might be missing stuff

TianYa square filters off eBay, make sure its the TianYa ones, the ones that look like them, also from China, but are not are unevenly layered and terrible, TianYa are not bad.

They slot into Cokin P holder (which you can also get cheaply from ebay).

>>2697753
You still need to filter each shot prior to exposure.
>>
>>2697754
not for digital
which this fag is probably using

oh I see. so it's not like, colorizing existing blackenwhite photos, it's for taking blackenwhite photos with color filters so the color can be reconstituted later. boooo i wanted to learn how to make blackenwhite pitchers have color
>>
>>2697754
Thanks, I'll look those up. How do i tell if they're real tianya filters or the fake ones?
>>2697758
I was actually planning to do it with b&w film, but will probably try it on digital too. part of the reason it sucks to do it all digitally is the black and white "filters" built into digital cameras have red and green software filters but never include blue for some reason.

>boooo i wanted to learn how to make blackenwhite pitchers have color
that's called "painting it in photoshop and making shit up" lol

This is the method used to shoot color in the days before color film. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergey_Prokudin-Gorsky

just buy the filters

The example image was shot on B&W film back in the day before colour film, that specific project by Prokudin Gorsky started just before the 1900s iirc, it's colour filtered, so that each exposure represents a specific colour and can be recombined to a colour image later on.

They have Tian Ya printed on the filter itself. I'd probably just serch for Cokin P filters and look for a seller that has pictures of actual items, with TianYa printed on the actual filter in the picture itself and then look in their inventory for R, G, B ones etc.

you use raw files if doing it digitally, its incredibly easy
but theres really no point in doing this process except for 'fun', and then its only novel the first time

the color this results in is not very good
>>
This is a common practice in astrophotography. Colour wheels are quite expensive. Sweetie wrappers not so much.
>>
>>2697792
No it's not. It's a common practice of hobbyists with bad photos.

I can't imagine the image quality from that is very usable.

Nor can I.

Turrets with filters attached in front of a dedicated (cooled) ccd camera would be better.

OP here
dumping some photos I took.
I think I need a stronger blue filter though. The one I got is more designed for balancing flash, so there's a little bit of a color cast that can't be completely removed, but it does prove that the technique works.

you comfy as shit my bitch
I'm gonna have to do this now.
how did you blend the 3 images?
>>
>>2701143
I shot them all in order of Red filter, Green filter, blue filter so I knew which one was which.
Then after scanning them I copied them into the red, green, and blue channels in photoshop.

Some of them were kind of a bitch to align, and there are still color shifts when anything moved between shots. copying them to separate layers and aligning helped.
