This weeks challenge is to take a picture outside. Trains ect don't count either
>>2684618
Challenge is to not oversaturate, and not take photos of trees from behind a window.
>>2684680
Yeah but seriously go the fuck outside you giant nigger. You can't just point your camera through a window and call it art.
>>2684674
Oie k loco
>>2684680
>For the record, it's not "oversaturated", because that's what it looked like...
Does the train run through willy wonkas factory?
>>2684618
I'm guessing the OP gave up when practically nobody contributed to the first 2 weeks.
Which wasn't a surprise since his challenges were bizarrely exclusive.
>>2684815
I don't get why everyone says this. They were meant to be challenges, not tutorials. They were intended to get people out of the house taking photos, not to teach newbies what the aperture does.
>>2684832
I personally couldn't think of anything that used repetition to convey happiness, so didn't do it. Sounds like a "right place right time" kind of thing.
>>2684832
>exclusive
"restricted to the person, group, or area concerned."
I wasn't actually saying it was too difficult. I was saying that the challenges only seemed to be relevant/interesting to a small subset of this board.
Although, granted, making the difficulty more scalable would have helped get people involved. The challenges either required way too much thought and effort, or >>2684850
I came up with a solid idea for the 'loud noise' challenge, but decided to put that effort into something which actually interests/benefits me instead.
And a lot of the confusion you're referring to was the result of repeatedly calling it a 'course' and the mention of 'new photographers are advised to do X and Y' and then giving an assignment that they wouldn't be able to perform competently.
>>2684857
>giving an assignment that they wouldn't be able to perform competently.
I think a lot of it had to do with the way the posts were written, not necessarily just the assignment. I was only here to see the first one though.

It was partially due to the way the posts were written, but there was that one anon who posted a photo of m@d $ta¢k$ and OP told him it didn't fit in with repetition. Another anon posted a wall of bikes, iirc, and OP said it didn't convey happiness. OP accepted both after some explanation, but my point is that there were very rigid definitions which weren't explained well and changed throughout the course of the thread. The whole thing was poorly put together, despite being a good idea
>>2684874
>I can't read
There's more than one meaning of difficult and the 'requiring skill to accomplish' meaning was crystal-clear from the 'newbies' context
Separate paragraphs are often used to indicate a different point is being made (look I'm doing it right now).
I started that paragraph with 'although' to make it extra clear that I was approaching the topic from a different angle.
And, it's still possible for me to agree that it was too difficult for newbies, without that being what I was getting at in my initial comment.
Don't worry anon, you'll get the GED someday.
Suggestion:
Make a bullet point list of every photographic challenge or demonstrable concept that we can think of.
As per 4chan standards: 'roll' based on your post number.
Or
Submit amusing photo/quip as justification for choosing your own task.
Suggest task items as we think of them in the challenge treads.
Optionally:
When people complete a challenge they can also nominate new topics from those suggested or insert their own.
Make the list of tasks/challenges intentionally extensive, overlapping and ever-expanding so people can shoot whatever the fuck they want no matter how inane, eclectic or similar to another task.
???? (go out and take photos - post them in challenge thread)
Profit.

But it would be useful if someone ever has a text copy.

What if we chose one topic for each challenge.
Participants claim a trip for every challenge and post their image with it, also add a caption - no description. With the trip a participant is allowed to up-vote a fixed number of foreign images. Participants aren't allowed to post several images or exchange the posted one. A challenge is over by hitting a specified image limit.
The winner specifies a new topic and describes it with a few sentences. The topic should be universal e.g. red, power, everyday food. It may be interpreted widely, however, the voting participants also decide whether an image meets a topic or not.
>>2693933
So like the previous one that was formal and specific enough that many people couldn;t be bothered when all they really wanted was a quick incentive to shoot something.
Go right ahead if you think you want to put in the effort and receive the hate.
Having a roll your own chart can exist in parallel. I suspect the more casual option will get more use.
This looks like fucking runescape
>>2694027
>when all they really wanted was a quick incentive to shoot something.
Quick and thoughtlessly, that is exactly what makes me bored, why I don't roll, maybe why others don't fulfill their roll. I find the requested images are too direct and too simple. Oneself does not even care about the shot, why should some other guy.
I miss the creative process, thoughts and concepts forming an image, a common feedback and to learn what others are doing from the same topic (e.g. at what oneself failed).
I admit that my approach is too protracted for 4chan. To demand something different to snapshots would still be great.
>>2694112
Also each approach can be derailed. The effort and hate is not a problem if I find at least some consent to the idea.
>>2694118
So don't talk about it. Do it.
This week's topic?
>>2694137
I try to get this started asap. I don't know whether it is good to rely on trips. The topic is fairly defined and I'll announce it with the challenge, however, this may take some time since English is not my first language and I want the rules to be defined unambiguous.
>>2694137
This.
Don't worry about consent. Hell, the site would be better if we had four or five going at once.
>>2684618
If there is no reward involved in taking the photo (Like there would be at a photo job, or in school where a good photo receives a passing grade) then the assignment has to interest people in order to get participation.
Saying "Go take photos of happiness, and be sure to include repetition and do it in this super specific obscure timeframe" makes a lot of people lose interest. Was it too hard? no. Was it lame? Yes.
This is /p/. The true challenge, here, will always be to actually take a photo. So that's what the challenge threads have to overcome in the first place. If you want people to participate, you have to have a topic that's broad enough to have mass appeal, and simple enough to not intimidate people away from it.
Then you deal with the fact that a great deal of people come to /p/ just to hate things, and OP's of challenge threads burn out quick. They get abused for little to no reason, they make topics that appeal to artists, or gear fags, but never both, and they make themselves a personality on the board. So they set themselves up to get AT BEST, about 30% support/participation, 70% abuse, with no personal benefit to them.
Knowing all that, asking why WOULD there still be a weekly photo challenge, is the better question.
