Isn't photography now a job that anyone can do?

In the film era, if you couldn't see your photo after you took them. You only knew the result much later. So if you did mistakes you would fail. You had to know what you were doing.

Now, anyone can take photos, just take one, preview, if it is shit do it again. Sooner or later you will have the outcome you desire.

Also cameras are becoming smarter, Sony A7 can detect faces, I don't doubt sony will release someday a camera that analyses composition and will tell you where you should aim.

Also photography isn't art. Never was to begin with.

Ok.

People at weddings/parties still want to party/wed and socialise, not follow everyone being sober and doing your supposed amateur re-try till it looks good camera ritual. So they'll still pay someone to do it.

Companies needing product photos won't risk/have their employees stop their designated tasks/jobs to waste time taking pictures of their products - it'll still be faster, cheaper and overall convenient to hire a professional.

Amateur photography has always been the domain of amateurs, it just required more time, discipline and experience-gaining b4 digital. This is the only area where things changed, more people think they are photographers.

Nothing changed in professional photography applications where the money's from.

No, like everything you need practice. Also what you are talking about honestly depends on what you are setting out to do with a camera.

Some people just like trying to take the coolest pictures possible. The people who actually have professional jobs have to abide by shit that might get in the way of their creativity.

Photography was always a job anyone could do.

I know a guy who was a professional photographer at age 16-17 without any education or experience. - just a way to earn some extra money like a paper round or working at the supermarket.
Although he did complain the camera (some 6x7 shit with a big flash) was very heavy.

this. my dad did freelance work when he was a fireman/emt
probably got great shit being on the scene as a first responder. photography isnt some difficult or special art form or any of that bullshit. anyone can do it.

any job can be done by anyone. the only barrier is the time commitment that goes into becoming better or gaining more exposure than your competition. that could mean education, practice, expensive equipment, etc. in the case of photography, the barriers to entry are much lower than that of racing, and the distinction between top tier and bottom tier competitors is lower as well.

>any job can be done by anyone

...and then there's licensed professionals, lawyers who have to meet a bar, military professions that require certain training, and a long list of other jobs that can't be done by "anyone" unless "anyone" meets high requirements.

wrong, any girl can't be a top model if they are fat and ugly.

Good photos can be taken by just chance.

Also most of the job is now automated by the camera's software.

Also you can fix most of the stuff on Photoshop.

exercise and cosmetic surgery would be the barriers to entry, as opposed to barriers of entry of education and professional licensure to say entering the field of engineering

Actually we have entered a new phase of a hobby/art form.

Digital photography and social media have made it easier to become a photographer.

Now more than ever its about networking and subject matter than raw technical ability.
(digital photography is very forgiving,I shoot in P for 90 percent of the time and use minor tweaks in light room and my photos get praise from plebs)

Those who spend their time meeting people or going places worth seeing are going to be the ones getting paid.

that being said I really think those who can afford the best gear and have the free time and money to travel will always be more successful than those who do not.

Ask me how I know you've never been a model, or directed a model.

>Good photos can be taken by just chance.

Possible, but very improbable.

>Also most of the job is now automated by the camera's software.

What job? Exposure? How has that changed with digital?

>Also you can fix most of the stuff on Photoshop.

If this is not b8, you are an idiot. You might be able to fix some things, but you won't be able to actually create a photograph in PS. Photography is not digital art.
