Main tips for toy photography:
Pick your setting well. A plain background, or something that puts the figure in something that might be its environment, rather than an ugly shelf or window sill. Make sure there's nothing in your scene (including your background) that will be detracting from your intent.
Light well.
Once you decide what your environment will be, you can choose a lighting style that will make sense for that environment. If you're building an outdoor daytime scene, maybe your figure is lit by the afternoon sun, you'd use a hard light from a low angle.
Perspective
Shooting from above makes them seem small. Shooting from toy-level makes them seem normal sized.
Shooting from their feet with a wide angle lens from up close makes them seem larger.

There's a thread on /toy/, try there. I follow some toy photographers on instagram, I really like the Pose skeletons.

two figures, posed well, in a simple believable environment, lit well, shot from a low angle, and sand thrown from outside the frame.
Where is the confusion?

You absolutely don't need a studio for figure photography. A couple of flashes and a kitchen table, with a few pieces of poster board will do everything you need. The size of the kit and the distance required scales perfectly with the size of the subject. shooting small things with "human sized" approach leads to small things looking small. A 6" toy lit with a 2' softbox looks like a 6' person lit with a huge enormous octa.

Focus stacking is great if using more than one toy, also wide aperture with shallow depth of field. Work on creating shadows aswell.

Was going to try get some shots of old Warhammer models I found.
Have some places in foliage nearby that could look cool, as well as local woods. Apart from the stuff below is there anything else I should bear in mind.
>shooting up on models when possible
>properly light models
>shallow depth of field for dat dere bokeh
>burying bases to make it look more natural
Anyone else done any Warhammer shots?
