I'm thinking of buying some lenses for my DX DSLR. I've found good primes, but I'm not sure about the zoom lenses. This picture is quite relevant to my question: is it a valid comparison between the two Nikkor lenses (55-300mm vs 70-300) or should I consider other brands? Thanks for the answers anons.

first, gear threads always reach maximum posts/images. second, you are a dick.
If you have questions about a new camera, what lenses to buy and anything related to gear or wondering about getting into photography, post it in this thread.
Do not attempt to make a new thread for your new Rabal, broken glass and being new.
No pointless (brand) arguments and dickwaving allowed! You have been warned!
I repeat, ANYTHING GEAR RELATED goes in here!

Can anyone suggest a set of prime lenses for A7ii? ~35, 50, 85. I'm looking for bang for the buck and fun shooting, not the absolute best in performance.
Can they be manual lenses?
If not your choices are limited and not cheap.

No such thing, mate.
I don't see any long exposure threads and I just recently started dabbling in it. Constructive criticism would be appreciated.

Stop telling me what I can and can´t do dad.
I´m a Rebel now and my 44 pops far.
Just bought a Canon 100-400mm I.
Yes I know it's the old version.
Yes it isn't a prime, fuck off back to /r/photography with your street bullshit.
AMA I guess?
>>2819420
You already bought it, what do you want?
It's a very good lens, covers FF and has IS. Good for you I guess.
I crashed a Rainbow Gathering with some friends after rumors of hippies in the trees started showing up on social media.
I'll start this thread with the most non-descript photo of the day. :^)
We figured we'd bring along barter supplies, a good decision. After an hour or two of riding backroads and almost giving up on finding them, we spotted a tent, and then a painted school bus...and we were home.
Rainbow Gatherings, to those that don't know, are very loose temporary communities found worldwide, associated with the 60s counter culture. These days, just as many are from crustpunk or similar backgrounds as would call themselves "hippies" outright, but what they have in common are rather anarchistic, humanistic values.
Some of them, however, actually are old hippies. Some Elders have been living this way for decades.
Upon arriving "home", I was immediately greeted by a blonde Rainbowchild who immediately wanted to know if I would please take his photograph.
So I happily obliged.

Video noob here, what is this technique where the background seems to zoom out but the distance to the subject appears to stay the same? Example at 0:12
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3d6S5IR7t8
Got this recently and am just so underwhelmed. People and reviews said it was good, it seemed like my best bet in terms of portability, price and IQ. Taken a couple of hundred photos and everything is noisy, nothing is sharp, I hate the kit lens with a passion but I don't feel as though a better sense will solve all my problems. Did I make a terrible mistake with this thing? Can't figure out why its performance is so disappointing.
MODS
Take it out of auto mode, pleb.
>>2816929
If you have a good lens on it, it will work very well.
As for the noise, maybe limit auto ISO to 3200 and see where that takes you. It's not a really very low light camera, so use that flash indoors.
Since I live in Florida now, I'm mainly looking on tips on how to shoot OK stuff in really bright conditions.
Using the shit photos in the thread as a starting point, give me guidance in the technical direction.

What's the most hip looking dslr or mirrorless? I want everyone to know I'm hip af when I walk around the art gallery or sit in a cafe drinking a flat white.
Buy a Lytro Light-field camera. It's obscure, it looks weird, people WILL ask you questions about it, and it will give you whacky looking photos. It's also a nice phallic shaped camera, so it'll feel great when you indefinitely put it inside your asshole.

X-Pro2 by far.
There's also the new Pen F. It's sole selling point is that it looks old.
Should I admire guys like these as risk-taking photographic artists, or consider them as the ultimate vapid millenials, since the end goal seems to be merely a selfie and social media celebrity?

Do what you have to do to get the shot. That said, the photos that come about from these risky climbs are usually not very good, however for them it's more about the experience and the photographs and videos are just there to document it for them.
I very much enjoy watching these videos though, really cool. Gets my palms sweating every time

I just love that they cover their faces during the whole footage, yet they give their names and surnames at the end of the video. Made me laugh.
Why don't they buy a fucking DJI Phantom
So what is on the Camera wall of Cool?
Seriously Uncool: Digital
Cool: 35mm and Medium format
Sub Zero: Large format film
>>2812436
these cars look all the same.
>>2812547
>MF just "cool"
negro u on crack. MF is the only sub zero, not even open to discussion, then large format would be "very cool", because LF is less cool due to being a chore. then a well earned cool for 25mm.
then all digishite is just uncool. except for the sigma merrills, which are very cool.
>>2812549
oh, id add half-frame to "sub zero". because its tru.
