>I went to the promised land, I found out the promised land isn't quite heaven.
Hey there guys, just posting to make you sad.
First up. Film Is Dead.
Pic related is the world famous Yodobashi Camera Shinjuku film cooler. All dat glorious 4x5 and 8x10 slide film, all those 120 pro-packs, many emulsions.
Hate to break it to you guys, but the boxes are all fucking empty. Special order only.
The prices aren't anything special. There is a better range of black and white emulsions available in Australia. Acros 100 is it. You might find the normal Ilfor or Kodak range too.
For 35mm colour, you're shooting Fuji, unless you want to pay through the ass for overpriced Kodak. Special emulsions include Superia 400 Premium, which is a few hundred yen more expensive and gets you "better" Asian skin tones, Venus 800, and Natura 1600. As we all know, fast film is for children, and looks like ass, unless you overexpose it, thus making it slow film, so I didn't bother. Then there's Fujicolour 100, which is cheap and sharp. Then there's Velvia 100 and 50, and then nothing.
In 120, you get Fuji Pro160NS, Fuji Pro400H, the Velvias, or you're back to highway robbery prices for Ol' Yeller.
When you're not at Yodabashi HQ, and you find a little print shop that still has some film for sale, it's in 3x27's of 400 Premium, or fuck off. You can't buy film at non-photo shops. You can develop film at print shops, which are reasonably easy to find, but they're all run by super old people who would have retired 15 years ago anywhere else. They mail out E6. The prices are as per normal. You will be treated like a crazy person when you ask for film or film services.
Japanese people will *not* use expired film, if you see some on a shelf in a little print shop, ask to buy it and there's every likelihood they'll give it to you for free. I was given 4 rolls of Provia 400X (pic related) and 2 rolls of Neopan 400 by the old gentleman I got to process my film. He treated me like a crazy person.

>I went to japan and they had no cheap film that was discontinued decades ago
But how was japan?

Secondly. Buy your cameras on eBay.
There are a faintly ridiculous number of secondhand camera shops in Tokyo. I spent several days schlepping around many of them, thanks to guides posted by JapanCameraHunter and TokyoCameraStyle.
Believe it or not, rare cameras are rare. You won't find hard to find things, and when you do, they will be expensive. Camera collecting is a national sport in Japan, and they're better at it than you.
I saw ONE Konica Hexar. It was 65000 yen.
I saw ZERO GR's.
All of the FM3A's were over 50000.
I saw ONE 28/2.8 Ai-S, and I bought it.
I saw 3 GW690's; 1 broken one for 20000, 1 beat to shit one for 45000, 1 minter for 70000.
These are not good odds, or good prices.
I went into at least a dozen stores.
There is sweet fuck all in the way of MF gear, and when you find it it's beat to shit, or very expensive. (Except for Pentax MF lenses, they can't give that shit away)
As I said above, you will find the gear you want cheaper and a thousand times easier on the internet. Just do it. Don't come to Japan hoping to find something hard to find.
Pic related is what I bought back with me.

>can help in some situations.
Yes, but the self awareness to realize that most of us will never ever be in those situations seems like the hardest part of buying gear. Getting things that would be better for you IF... is a trap with a big price tag, and no real world benefit.

Another day I went to a marriage of two japanese descendants.
And besides the pro photographers hired to cover the event a lot of the guests had their DSLR's with them too. I mean, A LOT!
The total sum of DSLR's from the guests was higher than the DSLR from the pro photographers. I wouldn't doubt some of the guests had better gear than the hired photographers.
Is this common with japaneses??
Its due to their genetics. Their eyes are too thin to see the world as everyone else does, they can see the world better through a $1500 lens. They use cameras with fancy lenses in the same way we wear glasses or contacts. Also their penises are all so small that they need to use cameras as a sort of courting tool to attract a partner.

Hello, /p/.
Longtime lurker / occasional shitposter here... figured it was time to post some shots my GF and I have taken over the years.
I'll just go through some of my favorites from the site... forgive the disgusting watermarks, they are because we got tired of having to explain to people who took each shot.
This is just a hobby. I've been doing it for about 14 years, her about 4. We have sold some prints for charity, but that's about it.
No captives, just wildlife.
Enjoy.

Used Squarespace, they are pretty polished, but there is not that much variation. Might use it to start a bit of a blog aswell.
My question to /p/ is, as a fresh photographer looking to break in / get known, less photos available online or more? I guess when no one knows who you are you need to show them your shit as much as you can. Or would i be better holding fire, showing fewer photos so as to keep cards closer to the chest for future projects or potential publications etc.

Less is more mate, you only keep the best stuff online. Might as well give people the best impression of you as possible. Providing you have regular updates to the site then people wont mind somewhat less content. It all goes tits up when the latest set of images you have is from 3-4 months ago because everything since then has been average commercial work
If you have questions about a new camera, what lenses to buy and anything related to gear or wondering about getting into photography, post it in this thread.
Do not attempt to make a new thread for your new Rabal, broken glass and being new.
No pointless (brand) arguments and dickwaving allowed! You have been warned!
I repeat, ANYTHING GEAR RELATED goes in here!

I heard newer tips were redesigned and wear off less, but it still does after some time. Probably it's so you have to buy from them in order to use their product. Older tablets before USB did not wear off the tips so quickly.

The basic Wacoms. Don't pick Genius stuff, just spend a little more and get a Wacom, it'll last you a lifetime. Only issue with Wacoms is that their software/drivers team is probably made of poorly trained apes so you'll eventually have some slight issues, but the tablet will always work right in the end.
