I think its time for a Photobook Thread.
Have you copped anything interesting recently?
My latest acquisition was Tales of Tono by Daido Moriyama. Stellar print and paper, cute little book, pretty interesting material, shame the language (dont know jap, so cant read the essays at the end, anyone know what they say?).
Saw pic related in a library and it reignited my desire to own it, its fucking huge and the prints are impressive.
>I think its time for a Photobook Cover Thread.
ftfy.
/p/s irrational love of moriyama daido is one of the board's best aspects
definitely not a recent acquisition but still my most favourite photo-book fetish
I've never personally looked at tales of tono so I can't say OP, but if you scan them I don't mind taking a look

Why was this discontinued?

/p/ is a meat grinder, and has ground up all the worthwhile people with fun ideas about the community. Now we're just a bunch of NPC zombies swaying back and forth in a dark room waiting for the next adventuring party to walk through the door to be accosted. We contribute nothing, we risk nothing, we create nothing but drool and rotten meat on the ground.
Hopefully someday soon, /p/ will realize that if you constantly abuse the people who are trying to help you, people stop trying to help you.
The zine was someone's passion project, rather than a community thing, so it was always destined for a short lifespan. You're more than welcome to start one up again. I would like to see the "Best of" monthly threads we used to have, but those are also notorious troll magnets.
The books always take four or five months, since we're all flakes.

I own a Nikon D3200 dslr camera. I've been thinking of buying some fisheye lens, and I can only afford up to 200 euros (max 250). So, yeah.. Can you suggest me some good ones for begginers, maybe give me some photo samples too?

Zenitar 2.8, 16 mm Fisheye-Objektiv
Its about +-200 $ and worked pretty well for me.
It comes along with an moutadapter. Very nice lens. Buy it, thank me later.
>>2833063
Bought this with an adapter and it wouldn't focus to infinity on my D70. Also, it's barely a fisheye on a crop sensor. Pic related.
OP, fisheye lenses are gimmicky and you'll probably get bored of it super fast. That said the Samyang 8mm is probably the best bet in your price range.

In terms of IQ, sharpness, dynamic range ect how far ahead are the latest crop of phone sensors away from the early full frame sensors??
Do you condenser some modern phone's as true tool worthy of making prints?
My opinion on this :
IQ isn't really the issue anymore, hasn't been for a while now. We can cram a good sensor and some okay glass into anything nowadays. And that'll get you decent prints in any reasonable conditions.
For me it all comes down to ergonomy, lens compatibility and battery life. And of course with lens compatibility you can go further in terms of creativity.
Full fledge cameras are still ahead in terms of extreme conditions management, but I think it's pretty much it.
>>2832602
>Full fledge cameras are still ahead in terms of extreme conditions management, but I think it's pretty much it.
autofocus, dynamic range, color rendition, focal lengths other than semi wide angle, low light capabilities, autofocus, viewfinders (and therefore stability) manual controls, raw image quality, lens quality (including corrections for aberrations and such)
Any technology that improves a 1/4" photo sensor will also improve a full frame or APS-C sensor....

Uh, there's no comparison. Early full frame sensor still blow the latest and greatest phones out of the water in every conceivable metric.

Criticising Gurskys work online is like watching an epic movie on you phone and not being impressed.
His work revolts around the concept of size and proportions and was meant to be looked at at 185,4 × 363,5 cm, not on your crappy screen. Standing in front of a Gursky print changes the picture dramatically.

>AIPP
Australian Institute of Professional Photographers
Is it worth joining these types of institutions? Or is it a rip off and full of faggots?
The AIPP for example costs $500 per year (if you are pro) plus a one off $100 signup fee or some bullshit.
Basically you get to use the logo on your website (as if that makes a difference) and some other useless stuff (like people can search for you through their website)..
I am however slightly interested in the mentoring program and being a part of a community that is actually full of successful professionals who are willing to give advice.. I do know that there is at least one extremely successful photographer in the AIPP but for all I know he runs it and makes a killer living off of morons that become members.
tl;dr: Is anyone a member of the AIPP or similar institution? Is it worth it? What are the pros and cons?
>inb4 I am accused of shilling for the AIPP
I am just genuinely curious whether becoming a member is worth it or not.
