Hello everyone.
I recently bought a panasonic dmc lz40, first of all im not a photographer nor do i have any knowledge of photography.
I bake for a living.
I make cakes cupcakes things like that, and its the pictures that sell mostly.
Ive been trying to take pics with this cam for a few days now and while pictures do look better than my previous cam food doesnt look as appetizing as i had hoped.
Now it doesnt have to look cool or flashy the food just needs to look appetizing, how do i go about doing this on this specific cam?
Any help...

With this sort of cam you're going to need really, really good lighting. Try to take pics in daylight, not by lamplight.
Any chance of being able to return this unit for something else? I dunno if you were constrained by budget or whatever, but if as you say it's the pics that sell you might want to invest a little more on the photogear - it would make what you're trying to do easier as well as being able to achieve way better results.
/p/'s a slow board, so don't be disheartened if you don't get many immediate replies.

To learn where you're going wrong you'll need to understand the fundamentals of photography. Composition, exposure triangle etc. It also doesn't help that the camera you have isn't exactly suited to this. If you're going to use these images in a professional setting I would suggest splashing out a bit more and getting a decent mid-range DSLR. You're also going to need a tripod and some artificial light sources, as well as bounce cards and the ilk.

The photographer was pretty much in a war zone, in the dark. The photo was most likely immediately rushed to the editors for publication without any editing. It's a shit, rushed photo, but that's what you'd expect from an event like this.
>>2704359
i give a shit about photo quality. you keep giving it about latest canikon releases.

film era photos were way better. be it warzone, crime scene, accidents, guys were ruthless and bold. i have yet to see a current day event photo that isnt some forgettable crap that also looks shit.
also i expected some raw emotion from d'agata, thats his thing. not a literal snapshit a kid could do.

Guys the holiday season is here and I like taking pictures of Christmas lighting during this time but I can't keep my hands still during sub zero temperatures which causes my pictures to blur, other than wearing gloves people recommended me to increase the iso of my camera, I'm just wondering are there other options? I'm kind of a poor fag so the cheapest DSLR camera I am considering on getting is the Rebel T5 by Canon.
But I'm curious, in the ads for Black Friday, there is an ad for this camera that comes with two lens 18-55mm and 75-300mm as well as a camera bag. Best Buy even throws in a free microSD card. The total price excluding taxes is $399.99.
https://blackfriday.com/stores/walmart/ads/black-friday/page-7

Now I found these bundles from eBay.
Are these worth the money?

for a this feature has been disabled in this model a rabal t5 is shit tier bottom of the barrel entry level.
enjoy your one dial menu diving and missing a shot because you have to look away from the viewfinder to switch a setting.
also goto best buy and hold one of those cheap ass plastic pieces of canon shit in your hand and see for yourself.
>>2703789
What is wrong with Canon? I had a photography instructor who loves Canon and he works for magazines so the brand cannot be that bad, can it?
>>2703793
ask your photography instructor how much his canon cost and how much the lens on his camera cost.
canon entry level is shit tier. plastic crap. try pawn shops and college bulletin boards with for sale ads pinned to the cork. there should be tons of people unloading their slightly used plastic crap at the end of each semester. try the one right outside your photography instructors office.
What's up /p/, this is my first post, dont be hard with me.
So I need some help, I own a Pentax K-50 (highly recomended as first dslr) and I have problems, when I shoot in raw, which I always used in my old Nikon d40x, the colors seem to be faded and totally gone (see pic) and I do not know what this must be. And honestly I love raw, but I hate to have to make all the adjustements that the camera is suposed to do, as my Nikon did, it makes me feel too lazy to edit one by one more than 200 pics.

...You do not understand raw. The camera is doing exactly what it should be doing.
Well I did not choose my words very good, but what I'm trying to say, how come is so different? do you mean it has no processing? meaning then that .nef files are actually processed but in a raw format?

first off please resize your pics i realize you want us to see the pics in detail but 9000px is excessive.
Ok, I own the K-50 and love it to death, but go through the menu and shut off all the post-production features. They take up time, battery power, and they don't do anything you can't do later in post.

I need to convert a TON of digital files into slides. How would I go about doing this? I don't want to pay someone to do it for me because I have too many photo's and the price would be high. Is there a machine that will do this for me?
self bump
Couldn't you just print onto transparency film with a standard printer, then cut them out and fit them into slides?

- buy film camera
- buy shitloads of slide film
- put all photo's in a slideshow.
- photograph your computer screen.
Found some old gear dad never used, like the lens is in great condition and those flashes have probably been fired a dozen times...

Isn't this the 2nd or 3rd time you have "found" this same gear, I remember the picture, keep looking around you might "find" it again.
camera good flash okay lens great
Camera solid but ancient
Lens excellent
flashes excellent
Excellent start into photography. Just need some light stands and umbrellas.
Can we, for once, agree that the most important thing in photography, is what you photograph?
I mean, you can spend hundreds of dollars on fancy cameras and gear, but what it really comes down to, is what's in the picture.
Subjective.
>>2703480
Nope. Good gear can make any mundane little shit object look nice or interesting.
I got my D800 for free, with three gold-ring Nikkor lenses, and I mostly just snapshot random crap in auto mode, so I should know.
My pictures can look really nice despite me not knowing shit or even putting any real effort into the shot.
Lightroom also helps.
Well. You could also have the best gear available, the most perfect motive and you still could screw it big time.
No.
The most important thing in photography is your eye. Your skill. Your experience .
Haven't seen one of these in a while
post a RAW and other anons will try to process it the best that they can

What line would you not cross in photography?
What shot would you not take, print, or show because of a moral code or personal taste, even though it would be perfectly legal?
or do photographers even have a responsibility to self censor based on some abstract ethical code?
If a scene or subject is way too cliche, and I mean so overdone that every shitsnap flickr page by a nerd with a 50mm+rabal who thinks he's the next HCB has a picture just like it, I probably wouldn't even lift the camera up to my face.
I also generally avoid pictures of the homeless because exploitation but I make an exception if a homeless person comes up to me or does something interesting, since that way I'm photographing the person, not his homelessness.
Other than that, pretty much everyone is fair game.
