ok
So i thought i just found an amazing idea for a documentary series, then i do a bit of investigation, and one fucker literally published the same idea i had (format, concept and everything) early this year.
JUST
>>2725074
So what, there is nothing stoping you. maybe your vision brings something new to the table
>>2725074
this isnt your blog
what was your idea
>>2725074
Stop being a softcock and do it. Just because the idea is the same doesn't mean the execution will be the same as well. The photographer / artist brings as much to the project as the idea does. Likely yours will be entirely different by the time it's done.
What's the idea?
How cheap are camera parts in the countries they're made in?
If I went to thailand would shit be really cheap?
>>2724832
>If I went to thailand would shit be really cheap
No, dummy. Companies manufacture in foreign countries so they can make bigger profits not pass savings along to the consumer.
>>2724883
is wrong,
People travel to Hong Kong to buy cameras and film cause of the price difference.
There were duty free store in the China airports I went to and as well as in Thailand, with tons and tons and tons of lenses and bodies.
Thailand's MBK mall has a floor dedicated to electronics, and the deals there are far better than in America.
>>2724890
Fuck off.
There are TWO serious camera shops in MBK one on the ground floor and one on the 3rd or 4th (whatever level you arrive at when you enter from the BTS). They are both owned by the same company. All the other 'Electronics' are mostly mobile phones and games.
In Hong Kong the prices are roughly consistent with international prices. PLUS in both places you will only get local warranty.
In both places you can get cheap Chinese made accessories but don't expect to save on your...

Take it to the gear thread shithead.
What is /p/'s opinion about this Angry Photographer video?
I'll sum it up if you don't want to spend 30 minutes watching it. His main ideas are:
1) There are only three ways to be drawn into a photo: Geometrically, compositionally, or emotionally. (Light is defined as being = emotion. Also, rule of third sucks for composition compared to vortex, funnel, or golden ratio.)
2) Each photo you take is a complete one-page novel. Your ability to take a one-page novel will distinguish an amateur from an advanced amateur from a professional Thematically,...

Sounds pretty accurate.
My God what a load of horse-shit. You know what makes a good photo? The fucking photo. You'll either like it or you fucking won't and you'll know it when you see it.
I'm so tired of the "but it's aaaaart" types pushing this storytelling bullshit. You know who makes up the story? THE VIEWER. It's all in the viewer's fucking head. You know why? because it's a picture and not a book. It doesn't have words in it that can TELL a story.
Controlling lighting and composition to get the image you want is real. This "fantastical...

Angry Photog is all about the art aspect of photography.

2*vivitar 285hv.
One flash that I can't remember what it is. Better (much better) than the shitty vivitars.
2*elinchrom somethingsomething. Maybe 250 something?
Underwater 4*nikonos SB-105 and one Ikelite which again can't remember the model for triggering. When I'm ofcameraflashing underwater.
What's a good alternative to Google Photos?
Since the last update, they aggressively compress pictures in the web viewer, I can see jpg artifacts like 5 meters away from my screen. It's pure shit now.
I liked how I had 15GB of storage, and the way the sharing system works. Really useful for sharing exactly what I want with my family and friends.
Anything similar? I tried Amazon Cloud Drive and I liked it, but 5GB is definitely not cutting it and it lacks photo organization features. Same for OneCloud. Flickr is also out of the question.
personal server space.
free shit is just not good enough.
Flickr?
>>2724597
I really like the functionality of "Cloud" services. I tried OwnCloud on my server, but it was beyond shit for photos.
What's your setup? A custom gallery?
So my folks want to get me something for Christmas, and I'm kind of at a loss for anything I really want, but I just noticed that the Lumix CM1 is down to $450, and it's a concept that has intrigued me for a while. Reviews seem to be pretty decent on it too, including ones from photography sites.
What does /p/ think of it?

How is the support for this thing? How are the updates? I find it a beautiful device and considered it, but found it too expensive. The new price seems a lot more reasonable. However, the lens 'bump' is scary. I think the lens is very unprotected in most non-photographing situations.
>>2724436
Spend the $450 and get a proper camera

hey guys whats a good starter dslr camera

If you can afford a around five thousand USD, get a D4S, A7R II or 1D X. And a set of new lenses.
The best cameras are easiest to get good pictures with.
That said, maybe you can't / don't want to afford this. Most of /p/ doesn't. So what's your budget like? Can you get $1k at least? And what subjects / situations do you want to shoot most?
Please re-ask in gear thread with this information.

/thread.
Recently bought a Nikon D3200. Spectacular camera. Absolutly no regrets. Would reccomend and if you have a little more money to spare definitly go with a D3300. Higher ISO and Panoramic. If money isnt a concern D5500. Would highly reccomend one. I personally wouldnt stress it too much. Pretty much any DSLR you buy these days will be outstanding in quality. (Wouldnt buy a Canon T5 though).
