Is image quality affected by your version of LR if you import photos as DNG? Will newer versions result in better image quality?

no and no

Strictly speaking no, but there have been 3 versions of the Lightroom rendering engine (ACR) and they've got progressively better, particularly regarding noise reduction and highlight/shadow recovery. Older versions will produce inferior results from the same DNG.

126 KB,
You are not creating anything, just making a copy of things that already exists.

If god didn't made earthquakes and volcanoes, you wouldn't have mountains and valleys to take pictures.

If god didn't design life as it is, you wouldn't have trees and flowers to take pictures.

If the architect didn't design the church, you wouldn't have a good looking building to take pictures of.

Photography is not art, photography is theft at best. You are just ripping off the real artist.

Depends what kind of macro...like in pic related?

The body is of little incidence.
>>
>>2740642
Macro depends so much more on the lens than the body. If all you plan to do is macro, focus on finding the right lens first, then get a comparatively cheap body to go with it. I see Canon has a 60mm f/2.8 macro lens that's <$500. Throw it on a cheap crop body -- even cheaper if you can find one lightly used -- and you have a good start.
>>
>>2740642

Why don't Chinese companies copy the chemistry of expensive, premium films and then undercut them on price?

The formulation of Portra can't still be under patent after all these years.

Because there's not enough market for it.
>>
>>2740610
Maybe the down payment on the initial investment into a color/slide film line is too big?

What about design/building the line in the first place, who's going to sell you one? It's not like you can go to your local industrial wal-mart and pick one of the shelf these days. If you can't get something used (are there any left to buy?), will you hire a boatload of engineers to make & design expensive machinery for a dying niché market?

How will you reverse-engineer the exact film forumula?...
