I like the colors. I wish there wasn't that shadow creeping up on the left hand side, as it seems out of place.
I would have moved to the left in order to position the tower in-between the two buildings in the background, right now it's obscuring half of the one on the left which looks odd.
>>2762612
Yeah, I was kind of focused on trying to get the moon and the building on the right in good spots.
>>2762613
I don't think the moon really adds anything to it, to be honest.
Holy shit, they're putting Ansel on the new $100 bill! Will they put uncle terry on the nickel?

What world?
Help me /p/
I keep posting in the rangefinder thread but its pretty much dead.
Basically I'm a poorfag and brought a FED 3 in very good condition.
The only thing out is the vertical alignment.
From reading around the internet I still cannot figure out how to do this, I have no problem with the horizontal alignment though.
TL;DR I am noob help me calibrate my FED 3

how bad is it?
I have a zorki where the vertical is off just very slightly and it's still perfectly usable. To calibrate the vertical on a zorki you need to take the top plates off and then adjust screws inside the camera.
Search flickr to figure out how to do this, i'm not sure.
if you don't have to do it, don't.
>>2761056
Its only the vertical and its not too bad so I can focus still, but its not easy.
From what I've read you need to take off a bezel off but I'm not sure if it's the front circle window or the viewfinder bezel.
Also I have no clue what to do after I take off the correct bezel.
>>2761056
>if you don't have to do it, don't.
probably the best idea, but I've heard its easy to do.
Tell me what I'm doing wrong (or right). General Critiquing thread.

If you have questions about a new camera, what lenses to buy and anything related to gear or wondering about getting into photography, post it in this thread.
Do not attempt to make a new thread for your new Rabal, broken glass and being new. You have been warned!

I just bought a used X100S with a shutter count of 3.5K, did I get really lucky?
>>2760777
Why would that be lucky? What did you pay for it?
>>2760777
Depends on the price.
Seems to be the story for the X100 line, though. I got mine with about the same number of shots run through it. Dudes buy it thinking they're going to be the next HCB and then never use it.

Hey /p/ . GAS hitting up again and it's time for me to move from my puny d7000 to a full frame digital body. Doing a direct comparison between d750 and df atm,
things that worry me
d750's swiveling back - is that sturdy?
df's AF system coverage, filmsy door
d750's weight
oil issues with the d750?
I'm doing mostly street photography with the occasional studio session. sturdiness and light weight is key since I'm shooting all day long and occasionally have to use the camera as a flail in case I can get in a fight.. my...

D750 is a better performing camera in pretty much every respect. Df has interesting ergo's and an interesting look to it.
Performance is still great in both, so it's 100% up to you how much you value those ergo's / aesthetic versus marginal performance increases.
If I was getting one for professional use, D750 no question. If I was getting one for everyday use, Df no question.
At the level you're asking about, it really comes down to which camera physically appeals more to you.
Do you like the modern plastic fantastic body style? 750.
Do you like retro 60's body style? Df.
They're both full frame, both have excellent sensors, both well built, etc, etc. It really doesn't matter.

Clubs like photographers. I have friends that do it.
The clubs pay them to take pictures of people either inside or outside of the club to make them feel like celebrities (some of them have like a backdrop thingy) and also to promote the club (people tag themselves in the pictures, their friends see them having fun).
Specific artists and DJ's also employ photographers to go on tour with them.
I'm not sure you make good money doing this so I can't say how this guy is able to make...

I have to write an argument paper for an English class, and the topic I pick will be used throughout the entire semester for other assignments leading up to the paper.
I was thinking about discussing the ethical factors in photojournalism. Is this a topic that involves a lot of controversy? As in, is there a lot of two-sided debate? Also, is the topic of photojournalism expansive enough that it will last me a whole semester of assignments? I have been googling around but I also want to ask a community of photographers that might be more involved in this issue than me.

I'm not going to college. What's an argument paper? Do you have an argument? What's your argument? What do you mean by "discussing the ethical factors in photojournalism"?
>>2763295
There seems to be a few topics within photojournalism where the question can be asked, "Are some the actions photojournalists take ethical?"
Some examples from the Wikipedia article:
"Photojournalism works within the same ethical approaches to objectivity that are applied by other journalists. What to shoot, how to frame and how to edit are constant considerations. Photographing news for an assignment is one of the most ethical problems photographers face. Photojournalists have a moral responsibility to decide what pictures to take, what picture to stage, and what pictures to show the public."
"Photographs of the dead or injured arouse controversy because more often than not, the name of person depicted in the photograph is not given in the caption. The family of the person is often not informed of the photograph until they see it published. The photograph of the street execution of a suspected Viet Cong soldier during the Vietnam War provoked a lot of interest because it captured the exact moment of death. The family of the victim was also not informed that the picture would run publicly."
"Other issues involving photojournalism include the right to privacy and the compensation of the news subject. Especially regarding pictures of violence, photojournalists face the ethical dilemma of whether or not to publish images of the victims. The victim's right to privacy is sometimes not addressed or the picture is printed without their knowledge or consent. The compensation of the subject is another issue. Subjects often want to be paid in order for the picture to be published, especially if the picture is of a controversial subject."
"Another major issue of photojournalism is photo manipulation – what degree is acceptable? Some pictures are simply manipulated for color enhancement, whereas others are manipulated to the extent where people are edited in or out of the picture."
>>2763298
So is your paper going to be about those particular controversial subjects or is it about you taking a side in them and explaining why?
Should I get the Ricoh GR?
Every picture I've seen taken with one looks either crazy sharp or crazy aesthetic.
Its a great camera. Just be sure you do your research first know its downfalls and if it meets your requirements for shooting. I have one and love it just make sure its what you need in a camera
Yes.
I owned the original GR and liked it far more than the X100S I also had at the time. It's mind-bogglingly good for its size.
I'm now using a GR II as a lightmeter for my Hasselblad.
>>2762731
I mean if it fits your needs.
A good camera doesn't make good photos, you make good photos with the aid of a camera.
But it is a good camera if you're looking for something pocketable without sacrificing quality
Hi. I'm trying to get into independent film making and having a hard time trying to figure out what all I need. I got the sound taken care of. Do I need to get a different lens? I have the kit lens that comes with the Canon 70D (18-135). Is it really necessary to buy another lens right now? I don't want to seem like a gearfag but I just want to know if there's anything really else that I need to produce a decent looking/sounding video. Here's what I have so far.

Depends on the scale of the film, you should be able to cover most of it with your gear, but you may want another person doing cinematography, reshooting scenes at other angles can be a pain

Lighting.
A prime lens with de-clicked aperture would probably help, but you don't NEED it.
>>2762596
That's the thing. I'm scared of letting someone else to the camera work because they way I see things in my head, I want the shot to be exactly that. I don't feel comfortable letting someone else decide the shot.
