Anyone else /ski/? Anyone have any racing experience like me?
I used to race in high school
I ski, but I don't really dig racing. I want to get more in to back country touring.

Be careful out there...

Alpine skiing for 18 years, since I was 4 years old. Worked seven seasons in a large ski resort in the lifts, now also doing ski patrol
Not really any interest in racing

Yeah, I don't like going back country without a buddy. I know /out/ is all about the stoic solitude, but sometimes it really is better to be a team.

NEVER ride backcountry solo...
Snowbiker was killed two days ago in an avalanche, riding solo...
one snowmobiler killed early last week, his crew didn't have rescue gear.
Both deaths were avoidable with education and equipment. It's those kinds of reports that frustrate me.
Have to trust your friends with your life out there. Their skills with avalanche rescue is what determines if you go home in the truck or in a body bag after you make a bad decision.
I ski and race, but my skis have an engine between them. Also, avalanche instructor here...

Instructor / park rat reporting in, I go onto the racecourse once everyone's done to mess around. Gets me some weird looks but who cares
