Hey /out/.! Do any of yall B.A.S.E. or skydive? Im interested in finding new spots and meeting new people interested in falling off shit without dying. Pic isnt me but I mostly have antenna jumps.
Where are you?

Skydiver here.
> started in 2014
> had to leave for a year due to work.
> started getting back into it this year.
Did a jump today and doing one tomorrow.
I haven't been on /out/ for a while and I'm pretty happy to see this thread.
I usually participate in the scuba threads or make threads on search and rescue tracking.
Good to see a skydiver on /out/ what's your DZ?
>Antenna jumps
Is there a way to do this without possibly fucking up your eyes with RF?
Some TV antennas are several million watts, i'd be a bit worried about standing near one.

How do you safely jump from a KW antenna?
Are there any pictures of people who tried climbing radiating masts?
>>685859
Not an antenna per say but I have seen an RF burn from about 3-4kw in the upper HF band. Not nice and the burn smell wasn't good.
That said I have heard of some tard climbing pic related wile they were on. Just as well its not that higher power station.

>Climbing while on
How did they manage that? Are those radiating masts or wire antennas?
>>685888
>radiating masts
This. They are old school design by today’s standards.

What I want to know is how he avoided cooking himself. Was it off?
>>685917
It wouldn't have been off.
At 600khz and 1kw spread over two towers I don't think that would be hard. I would think it would be as easy as standing on a plastic crate and climbing on above the base insulators. Standing on the peak voltage point (top) of the antenna still has me a little bothered but perhaps the current is so low up there is doesn't matter.

>1kw
That explains it. I thought ones that old would be higher wattage.

As an rf engineer, this thread please me
>>685975
Where?
How's the pay?
Could I get a job in broadcast engineering with an EE degree?
>>685988
A govt contract company
Great pay
Yes but you need a master's degree at least
>>685992
>Masters degree
Shit.
What if I want to work for a TV or radio station?
Also, by where I mean location.
>>682643
>Y'all
No.
>>682643
I take from the direction of the thread there are no other skydivers?
not a skydiver but a paratrooper in the army so kinda sorta not really
>>685993
Depends. Do you want to design antennas or communication systems? Do you want to test them?
East COAST, US

I'd want something like broadcast engineer. I'm in Vermont, so the job would involve a significant amount of time up mountains.
Late this month I'm doing my first jump, it's just a static line from 4000ft.
What can i expect?

Found this little shrine in memorial to a base jumper that didn't survive his jump.
It's down Kane Creek RD outside Moab (Utah) at the base of the cliffs in a a tiny alcove across from the Amasa Back parking area.
