Joining the Air Force and my job will have me in a plane so I get to go through this, can anyone tell me what to expect or what your experience was like?

those vaccines they give you messes with your memory

Cool man, I'm a SERE specialist at Fairchild. Maybe I'll be teaching you.
>>
>>629929
Any advice on cross training / pipeline, would really like to get out of my afsc.
>>
>>629900
In the woods is fun. In the winter you get more food than you can eat and don't hike/snowshoe very far on a given day. In the summer you move farther and get less food but you're also carrying less shit and not cold and miserable. Hold the rabbit upside down by the hind legs and hit it very hard just above the ears with the stick, you will look like a fag if it takes you two swings.
In the camp sucks but just generally keep your mouth shut and play along and it goes fine. Don't be the retard that stays up all night.
Don't argue with the instructors.
>>
>>629900
if you are just a fly boy you will learn jack shit. for flyboys sere school is how to keep walking for 3 days.

if you are sf/ranger/sapper prepare you're angus. you will probably have a broken bone by the end.
>>
>>629900

I hear they capture you sooner or later no matter how good you are.

In all honesty I'd worry for the torture more than anything else. Expect to be uncomfortable in cramped spaces and maybe electroshock.
>>
>>629929
>>629928

Can I ask whan knoives you like?
>>
>>630006

This
>>
>>629900
Don't get all worried about it. Maybe read up on some survival shit. Don't listen to stories people tell you about any of the other parts, because things change and your experience will not be the same. It's good training. Just pay attention and don't give up.

Also, try to go in spring or summer for foraging opportunities.
>>
>>629928
gonna need some sort of timestamp proof here or else im calling bullshit. You'd be a fool to make such a claim on the internet
>>
>>630028
sere school has been pretty much the same for 2 decades now. they kidnap the guys that need to have torture training and the rest its just a forced march.

flyboys gonna march.
>>
>>630043
Aircrew still get rolled up and taken to the camp for the resistance training, the difference is that it's only three days long all together while the more special folks get to stick around for a while longer.
>>
>>629929
Hey. Fairchild AFB, WA? If you have time to talk shop, I'll buy you a beer or two. Me and a couple buddies have been doing a lot of /out/ lately, and would like to talk to a real professional in the field.

>>630012
lol i can't help but smile why would an sf know shit about knives except the one they were issued with
>>
>>630238
Well, most Army enlisted replace a good share of their issued gear with higher-grade, but relatively similar items. Boots, and underclothing being probably the most common. Lots of people carry non-issue knives.
>>
>>630243
so they are paying out of their own pocket for shit they could fuck up anytime?
that sounds kinda stupid to me unless issued gear is really shit.
>>
>>630238
yeah i love this stupid stereotype. They do the same shit with guns all the time, oh you have LEO or Military experience ? That makes you any expert! If someone is a firearm or knife or whatever gear enthusiast that is going to be the knowledgeable person, regardless of what they do for a living.
>>
>>630248
It's basically the same as someone bringing in an ergonomic keyboard because they don't like the one their office supplies. It's pretty common among professionals to have equipment they prefer using over what's supplied by their employer.

Of course that's probably not something you'd notice if you've never held down a real job.
>>
>>630243
i was never super secret squirrel level, but my above average company got special money. we got sv2 boots not even issued, just distributed atleast once a year. no signing. we got all kinds of retarded shit. so, actually, alot of us just stuck with what was free. i would guess the even higher up people probably get to pick and choose free shit. i still have a tritium watch i got for free. and 2 switchblades. and tons of boots and clothes.

yea, when i was in my first unit i used shit i bought. but he said sf.
>>
>>630272
i just tell the supply dep what i want and they get what i want so yeah i wouldn't know anything about that. sure it must be reasonably priced, otherwise they would give me the finger i can't just order a $400 keyboard and expect them to go with it, but i wouldn't buy that either.
so no i have no idea why would anyone buy their tools of trade if they work for a company.
>>
>>630278
yeah i wouldn't expect sane soldiers put much weight to knifes in particular.
what a soldier must use his knife for is pretty menial even the shittiest of shit blades can do it, and if you actually have to pry shit or dig a trench/shitting hole with your knife you don't want it to be a $300 custom made imo.
so i could see a soldier buy a better scope or a different more comfortable stock for his gun or some better sunglasses i'm unsure if they get even sunglasses issued at all, different watch etc, but the knife is really just a piece of sharp metal doesn't require any finesse precision or whatever it just needs to be sturdy and reasonably resistant to corrosion and rot.

military/trench knives deliver this exact sentiment. nothing more nothing less.
>>
>>630289
we actually get issued shovels for digging trenches. and there is always a pry bar around, even hiking up hills some bastard has to carry a clearing kit. the issue knife, if i recall correctly, is actually a leatherman. i have 600 missions under my belt and never even saw a bayonet after basic training.

we got free knives all the time in my unit. but we were special. i still carry a hefty ass gerber switchblade i got for free back a few years ago. and basic issue sunglasses are oakleys, so not too many people buy better glasses, although i did sport some nice shades my second deployment only to make them muslim bitches wet. and i only ever knew of 1 guy that supplied his own scope, it was his hunting scope that he loved. we get issued acogs standard and b&l on the long rifles.

>>630297
nice, leatherman... wtf are we talking about these?
>>
>>630308
no, like a regular leatherman. i can't remember what was the original issue knife but i think it was a regular old leatherman multi tool. like i said, we got free switchblades atleast once a year in my unit. and if you ever built a dirt wall over there, the pallets of barrier cubes that you build them with come with gerber leatherman clones. so if you build a base you will end up with like 20 of them.

i carried a SOG daggert i got from supply as my tactical 'oh shit' knife. and most of the time my big ol gerber switchblade in my pocket. but they were free, i could have probably bought better shit. i kept a leatherman in my bag, but not the one i am thinking of for original issue. my supply got these leatherman multitools that were pretty much a m4 cleaning kit.
>>
>>630297
>we actually get issued shovels for digging trenches. and there is always a pry bar around, even hiking up hills some bastard has to carry a clearing kit.
that much is obvious better use the correct tool for everything. i simply stated that it could happen you are left only with your knife as a tool especially if we are talking about sneaky scenarios. and trench knives were in fact used to dig i remember a guy said he only used his glock issue to dig a hole (for whatever reason).
>>
>>630313
you got leatherman mut issued?
man that's weird...
>>
>>630316
the original issue was a regular old leatherman than pretty much any job gives you. if i remember correctly.

the mut sounds like the cleaning kit one. and that one wasn't exactly 'issued'. i was in a unit that was, lets say, above and beyond. our captains just let most of our extra money go to supply. so we got cool toys, and we got them before they came out. we got that leatherman back in like 2011. we got this super fucking cool SOG switchblade that year too i think, it weighed nothing and had a glowing brandmark.
>>
>>630322
fascinating... i'm sorry but i have the sinking feeling that your unit got all the gimmicky shit the force acquired somehow and nobody wanted as "freebies". maybe i'm just cynical by nature and these are actually okay stuff i don't know.
i'm interested in the gerber folder tho how did that one hold up? i only heard spit shit and vomit about gerbers and their chinese mystery steel.

i own a gator sawback matchete and it does nothing good to the brand image i tell you. i could live with the shitty bendy crooked blade but that horrible handle...
>>
>>630324
the gerber switchblade is one of the few knives that i still have. the pocket clip is loose and the action is noticeably slower. but it still works and i carry it all the time as a civie.

we also got sv2's every year and silkwieght longjohns. and i have pretty much every pack that camelback has made since 2008. not all extra the stuff we got was toys, but alot of it was.
>>
>>630289
> i did sport some nice shades my second deployment only to make them muslim bitches wet
did you fuck any hajjis wife?
>>
>>630336
nope. i rarely ever spoke to a woman in the stan. i saw a few younger guys turn into absolute pedophiles though, since 12 and 13 year olds are the oldest grills you can see without a fucking bedsheet over them. at least in the south, the north is a little less strict.

i was in the deep south, protecting a convoy that was resupplying a hilltop base. my gunner was tired, been gunning for 20+ hours, so i said take a nap ill man the turret. as soon as i get up there this 20 year old man and his 17 year old wife/gf/whatever drive up on a motorcycle. they weren't expecting us there and she didn't even have a scarf on. i hadn't seen a real woman in months. she looked like a fucking supermodel to me.

as much as i hate islam and shit, i still think of that young couple going out for a bike ride. we're pretty much all the same.
>>
>>630340
>we're pretty much all the same.
i'm in europe so we are gonna be seeing a lot of that soon enough.
i hope we all can get along regardless of color and religion but it doesn't look promising.
>>
>>630344
the problem is the religious nuts. the regular people just want to believe that their life isn't meaningless.

i had just sent a few guys back home via dustoff. seeing that young couple just going out for a ride, obviously for fun since she wasn't wearing a scarf, was really uplifting to me. it reminded me that regular people exist even in the most strange cultures. and this was deep in khandahar province over by helmand. the birthplace of the taliban. the place where many conquests died, including alexander himself.

i hope one day before i die afghanistan becomes civil. it really is a beautiful country. i would like to go back without a gun on my back.

sry for your loss if you are a filthy frenchman.

My father was an MCPO in Navy SWCC. In SERE he was put in the Mojave, rather than doing the woodland version, or the winter one.

He was partnered with an Air Force pilot. They were completely naked, searching for food at night and sleeping during the day. They were being actively hunted down by their superiors. On the third day, having only eaten meager amounts of vegetation that they were able to gnaw on for some sort of nutrition, they met with most of the other guys in their class, and spent the night together for warmth. They could not move that night because it was far too cold, until early in the morning, before twilight, when several armored vehicles began chasing them down. My Dad evaded capture, though they apprehended his partner. He was taken early after sunrise. They pinned him down, bound his arms and legs, covered his mouth, and bagged his head, and threw him in the bed of a truck. He was revealed to be in a dark room later on, where they beat him and interrogated him and beat him some more, until that night, when managed to escape by getting his wrists unbound, then broke the chair his legs were tied to. He was alone for two days in the desert. They captured him again on the final day, but their time ran out before they got a chance to beat him.

So yeah, that's roughly what you should expect.
>>
>>630348
thing is i guess the world will eventually realize you have to arm the civilians and then the civilians that love peace can shoot the fuckers that try to stir shit up or terrorize them. it just didn't particularly turn out very well in afghanistan.

if a reasonable amount of those french fags were armed the 7-8 guy could take 20 victims tops before everybody realize what's going on and somebody caps them.

it took many minutes for the police to respond, i have seen a vid where you couldn't hear a siren for like 5 mins just the shooting.

too bad it is just as likely to be used as further disarming and weapons control because retards still think that's stopping criminals and terrorists. i mean look at the stadium the terrorists couldn't sneak in undetected hurray they just blow the entrance and went in guns blazing.
>>
>>630357
sounds like fun
>>
>>630357
that is close to what happens. i don't want to give much away though. if you are a flyboy expect a forced march and remember your name, your ssn, and your rank. god fucking help you if you are sf/ranger/sapper.

>>630358
it actually did work fairly well in the stan, people just hate to acknowlegde it. the last time i was there i used to meet up with locals and they all carried aks. it never bothered me, i was carrying an m4. they just don't want what we want as a government. but they do love us killing terrorists. no one fucking likes terrorists.
>>
>>630369
well from my part i started practicing shooting a few months ago my main go to is the ak cause these parts it's most likely to get my hands on an ak/akm clone and because i fucking love the simplicity of the weapon. it's not as foolproof as people make it to be at least according to my shooting instructor it does require regular cleaning because the ammo fools it up and corrodes it pretty fast.

i realized i might actually need weapons knowledge in this life. back when i was to be conscripted i wiggled out because i saw no point in military service. now i know anything can happen. for now shooting is just an expensive hobby of course.
>>
>>629900
does it stand for search, escape, rescue, then escape again?
>>
>>630390
it's "Search Entrap Rape Eviscerate" only you are the victim
>>
>>630384
learning how to care for a gun is an essential knowledge. yea, you can't pull an ak out of a mud pit and fire it like /k/ likes to pretend. but a good slapping gets an ak firing. all the US 'elite' schools teach how to take apart an AK. i can probably strip an ak and put it back together faster than an ar platform. and i have an ar and haven't touched an ak since sapper school.

it is a good platform for a gun. but if anything goes down NATO is going to stick together until the end. so having a NATO caliber gun might be beneficial.
>>
>>630394
this is post commie block country mind you i think they still have ak as issued weapon platform because the stockpiles of ammo and parts and domestic produce surplus.
>>
>>629961
I went through last year during the winter and I got 2 fucking MREs. I wish I got more food.
>>
>>630477
>i got two mres
>oh and the live game animals, that huge trash bag of grubby vegetables, some random snacks and shit they handed out the day before, and whatever the field instructors felt like giving us from their camp because they thought it was funny
pretty rough desu
>>
>>629952
lots of cross trainees in our field man. Just PT your ass off and don't be a fucking grey man.

>>630006
I can only tell you what knives I have experience with. We're issued the ESEE RAT 4. I've also used bush monkey knives and benchmade. All are good knives.

>>630237

Yeah man you stationed at Fairchild as well?
>>
>>630481
who were your instructors? They sound like dicks
>>
>>630278
Sf in the airforce stands for security forces just so y'all know
>>
>>630357
When was this? I'm not calling your dad a liar but air force navy and army all have different were classes, and they don't really beat you black and blue anymore.

As for you op, remember they're in control over everything. You're not really going to die or get seriously hurt, the school is designed to test you but ultimately for you to pass. AF has already spent too much money on you to fail
>>
>>630481
Nigga.

We had a skinny as fuck rabbit that was diseased so we didn't eat it. 2 potatoes and a carrot (which had to be split among 6 adult men). We weren't allowed to bring snacks into the field and weren't given any snacks, and my instructor was some A1C going through his instructor upgrade training so he did everything by the fucking book and didn't cut us any slack. I brought out bouillon cubes and we made a stew from the shit we were given and that was enough to make roughly a cantine cup's worth of food for 6 guys.

Don't get me wrong, I had fun. I had never even been camping before SERE and being there in the cold and deep as fuck snow kicked my ass but I learned a lot. That's what got me into going /out/. But I was fucking hungry.
>>
>>631743
>not really going to die or get seriously hurt

they broke my finger. i saw them break a guys arm. on. fucking. purpose.

you are going to get hurt.
>>
>>632169
When did you go through?
>>
>>632462
what branch was that for?

there was a documentary about SAS SERE training and it wasn't anywhere near as physical as it was psychologica. they had constant cold water dunks, standing in that search position with your arms extended on the walll for hours at a time and all that sort of shit.

youd think theyd be pretty sutble about the beatings though given present day opinions though you'd probably rather a beating in the long run during SERE.
>>
>>632462
bullshit, if you're going through sere the government has already spent a lot of money on you, thus, they won't risk rendering you combat ineffective by potentially giving you a permanent injury through breaking an arm or finger on purpose
>>
If I was to become a PJ would I die? Would I die from training?
