Denmark is so boring tho. The land is as flat as an Irish womans ass.
Where are mountains, where are the fjords, where are the fucking adventures?

August 21, 2017 the path of totality of a solar eclipse will pass over the US. Starting in Oregon on the Pacific coast and sweeping across the country to the Atlantic coast in South Carolina.

Where are you going to be camping /out/?

How long do you do it?
Do you go alone?

I wipe my ass with leaves and brush my teeth about every 6 months. Never had a cavity in my life. Never had a woman complain about breathe either. Toothpaste is a scam. Wash your mouth with water.

Has anyone done a thru hike or large sections of the AT at a time? I'm looking for some book recommendations. I plan on doing it next year. I vaguely recall one book being the most liked, but I forget which.

Keeping an eye on this thread, the AT is in my future.

Thru hiker 2011 NOBO here. Do you mean guide books or books about the trail? Guide book is either the ATC published one or the green one (blanking on the dudes name). The ABC has a lot of cultural info. I used that and I really enjoyed learning about civil war history, stories, that sort of thing. The green one has elevation profile. Only advantage. Which ever one you have, someone else will have the other. Yr an idiot to bring the two.
Narrative format, everyone reads that shitty walk in the woods Bryson book. I don't like the dude as a writer and he also gives up...

Same dude here. the green book is David Miller's.

Checkout Appalachian trials. Website a buddy of mine started, a lot of blogs and articles about gear, preparation, culture, etc.

Whiteblaze.net is another good forum for all stuff thru hiking.

109 KB,
was wondering if i could get some advice on how to locate leeches. particularly mud leeches, i live in western ohio. i have heard you will get some in almost any creek or river, but does anyone have any hints on finding them. or finding a honeyhole of them?

>>758970
Why would you want leeches? Are you a plague doctor?
>>
>>758977
paylakeing. big catfish. ect
bait shops sell them for 1.00-.1.50 each and usually buy them from you for .25-.50 each. so its a win win.
>>
>>758977
Best bass bait I've ever used were live leeches similar to the ones in the OP. They tend to last through quite a few strikes too.

>>758970
The best way to do this is to raise them yourself.

I know this varies from person to person but on average how long can you go before needing to access a cache when backpacking. The trail length I've been looking at is 100 to 200 miles. Can I do this without caching?

As long as you have water available, yes, no problem.

Hey sc/out/s, how do I sharpen BK2 properly?

I've been using my mora for quite some time, and I'm able to sharpen it decently. However, it feels nit very durable, so I got myself a BK2. This beast is heavy, feels nice in hand, but is blunt like baby's bottom.

I think that the glass reinforced plastic that serves as a sheath doesn't help it hold edge either. The stone I use is a random 400/1500 stone I got online.
8 replies and 1 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
The stone, if used correctly, should be sufficient. However, don't expect the BK2 to be as sharp as the Mora. I am given to understand it is more of a chopper.

If I were to hazard a guess, I would say that you lack the proper sharpening technique. I would recommend that you look up some instructional guides or videos online. Bladeforums are also pretty knowledgeable and have a few guides if you know how to find them.

Are you using water or oil as a lubricant while sharpening?

Also, remember to keep a consistent angle while sharpening. Keep your wrist...

>>
>>758616

I'm using water as my lubricant. I guess maybe I don't keep consistent angle? For Mora I leave the edge flat on the stone (like Ray Mears shows in his video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lm53mCOQTR8), with BK2 I have it lifted slightly, because I practically never see online pictures of BK2 with the black coating stripped, which leads me to suspect I shouldn't lie it flat on the stone. Should I ignore that and just lie the edge flat?
>>
>>758619
IIRC sharpening angle on a BK2 is 23°
You can make an angle guide if you happen to have a circular saw
Or you can hold the knife on the stone at a 90° now angle ithalfway toward stone. Should be 45° now. Angle it halfway again it should be pretty close to 23°
