Camping Tips and tricks? "Not a life hack" Edition?
Actually made this, it works pretty good.

An actual fishing kit will do much better. And knowing how to make traps including fisshing would do better. But a couple hooks and weights just might save you if you have a good idea of how to fish.
>>758144
I thankfully do, I only need the rod, and hooks and bait. I'll upload a picture of the container in a min.
This is a good trick for the fisherpeople on /out/ who have a problem with the hooks on crankbaits getting all tangled up. Using the rubberbands has saved me many a headache, somebody from here actually posted this video as advice.
The little rubberbands can be found in any drug store like Walgreens in the hair care section. They are only $2 for a bag of around 200 of them.

Where's the best place to go wild camping in the UK? Dartmoor? Highlands? Looking to get as /out/ as possible. Some wooded areas would be appreciated.

Stay the fuck out of Snowdonia
I was coming up from Beddgelert to Pen y Gwryd last Friday and no joke there were better than fuckin' 40 cars ticketed up for parking on the roadside. Gwynedd council is kicking ass and taking names when it comes to things the area now
Due to the success of the last thread and demand for a new one, we are brining back "outdoor fucking stories"
ITT: tell stories of losing your virginity outside, perhaps fucking a sexy girl at some camp, campfire, tent, hike, outdoors, etc

Sort of /out/
Was on a trip to Sand Mountain with my in-laws and my wife a while back. This story is actually about us not getting it on though.
>In-laws have large camper they use for quad trips
>inb4 not really /out/
>Camper has a set of bunk beds
>wife and I have the upper
>her younger brother in the bunk underneath us
>first night out, everyone is unconscious expect for this little turd
>up and goofing on his phone
>light keeping me awake
>idea.jpg
>Start rocking the bed back and forth
>squeak-squeak squeak-squeak
>soundslikesex.mp3
>Little turd freezes, shuts off phone
>continue to rock bed for the next fifteen minutes or so
>get bored and fall asleep
>justlikemysexlife.exe
>Next morning he's super uncomfortable
>Yells at his sister
>she has no idea what's going on
>Do the same thing for the next four nights, giggling myself stupid the whole time.
>>751001
Not much to tell but kind of a funny story.
>camping with GF
>hike around a bit, realize that the other sites are completely empty
>Sit down in a meadow, start making out
>GF takes off her glasses, pulls back hair for a BJ
>As I orgasm, I lean backwards and smash her glasses with my hand
>GF blind for the rest of the weekend
Going to trip /out/doors with my buddy
We will be going out to Yellowstone, my buddy has some really nice prison acid that he made. He says it makes you trip balls. So fucking excited.

Why are you not living on international waters like a real earth's free man?
I don't know what that even means.
Sounds cool though, tell me more.
>>761988
not him but international waters are basically the oceans, all countries agree that they belong to no one and no laws apply
"living" on international waters practically voids your citizenship and opens you to complete and utter destruction and exploitation from bad weather, pirates, dangerous and opportunistic oceanfarers of all kinds, and foreign navies.
newp. the coast guard isn't going to rescue your ass if you're 200 miles out "living the dream" at your own risk
So i found this ... thing on the ceiling right above my bed when i was going to sleep. I grabbed it and suprisingly it was hard as a fucking rock. (Suprisingly because i figured it to be a spider or some other insect.)
It is smaller than a pea and hard as a rock... Help me figure this out anyone? xD It creeps me out >.<
Skinwalker larvae. Almost certainly several dozen more spread around the area.
This isn't skinwalker larvae. I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm close to a massive national forest (hundreds of square miles). My hope is to just drive in from the highway, drive to a "middle of nowhere" area and set up camp there. But I don't have anything offroad-capable, just a 2wd sedan. Is this a realistic goal?
I can't find any information or guides about doing exactly this, since most of the trail info is about hiking, snowmobiling, offroading, 4WD-accessible routes, etc.
>>760996
What forest?
>>761005
Allegheny national forest, i'd be coming in from the west (cleveland)
>>761006
>Region 9
>Massive
Pick one.
I bought this lantern at a thrift store yesterday and it's haveing some problems. It wont light and I have no clue what's wrong or how to fix it. I also followed all the instructions

For all you guys who have built a cabin/camp innawoods, what kind of town codes did you have to adhere to? Septic tank, driveway, etc. I can't afford any of those things.
And what if I want to permanently live in such a cabin? Is there more shit to worry about if the town considers it a permanent residence? Can I lie and say it's a toolshed or something?
I live in a really snooty area of Maine and I'm worried the town will do anything in its power to keep people from living in very basic conditions. I don't really understand all the building codes and...

what area/town/city etc of maine are you in
>>759749
I'm looking anywhere on Mt Desert Island, probably Southwest Harbor. The further from Bar Harbor you go the cheaper land gets, but I need to stay on the island.
>>759755
>MDI
your idea probably wont happen
>And what if I want to permanently live in such a cabin?
unless you can find one that is already made it wont happen. for a building to be marked habitable, you must have things like, water, hot water, electric, septic/sewer, means of egress in bedrooms, etc.
>Is there more shit to worry about if the town considers it a permanent residence? Can I lie and say it's a toolshed or something?
generally if you want something to be classified as an out-building(aka a shed) you need another building that is a perm. residence
>what kind of town codes did you have to adhere to?
for a _completely_ new building you must adhere to
international residential building code
uniform plumbing code
national electrical code
whatever the fuck energy code they adopted a few years ago. MDI has a population above 2,000 so they de facto adopted the code.
Are there any "mountain men" types that aren't white? Native American descendants excluded.
>>759720
Why? Do you want to feel like you, as a non-white America, can fit in as a Mountain Man?
>>759725
I'm kind of curious why other races don't seem to participate in the same dream.
>>759727
Realistically, the prevalence of European American citizens becoming Mountain Men was (is) probably related to our higher population, particularly in those isolated regions located near the wilderness.
Hey there /out/ . What do you guys think of the Patagonia Nano Puff? I am planning to use it as a stand alone winter jacket with the possibility of combining it with a shell like Patagonia Torrentshell or Marmot Precip in the future.
I live in an area that rarely gets below -2 ,-3 Celcius in winter. I haven't done any real outdoor activity but I'd love to try hiking in the future.
Is it better to get a reasonably priced hardshell first and wear it with layers or something like a nano puff which I assume would keep me warm enough by itself?
>>758392
if you're in it for the function, you'll be just as good with a wool jacket from the thrift store
if you're in it for the style, then of course go with the patagonia
>>758393
I am in for both honestly. I tried the nano puff and really liked it. I don't like bulky clothing so much and the idea of a slim comfortable jacket over a T-shirt is very appealing. I also think of it as a future investment if I do get in any type of outdoor activity.
Also I'm allergic to wool so that would not work. Is it considered douchey to use outdoor gear in daily life?
>>758394
>Is it considered douchey to use outdoor gear in daily life?
people who judge on brand like that are just as bad as posers who wear outdoors gear bu never actually go outdoors
that said, some people who recognise the brand might raise their eyebrow at you wearing it for day to day use given its high price—people call it patagucchi for a reason
Next weekend (may 14-17) I'm going on a mini road trip around the Olympic peninsula and I'm looking for some advice on the must see outdoorsy stuff to see. I'm going down for a rally race on Sunday in Shelton but I plan to leave immediately afterwards and head towards Aberdeen and slowly make my way up the coast to Neah bay where I will camp out. On monday I will head to port Angeles and back around to olympia and then back home to Canada. Looking for some advice on sights to see and some awesome camp sites for sunday night near neah bay or anywhere north of Fork....

Look up how river trail. Probably the best through hike in Washington. Also the hoods port (North of Shelton) area is insanely beautiful with the biggest variety of great hikes. Lake chelan is beautiful! And I recommend Mt elinor for a day hike (can be tough if you're not conditioned) staircase is also amazing.
Lena Lake is a great place to hike to as well for a day hike. Even better to camp at. If you're really adept at hiking, you can make it to upper Lena Lake and back in a day. Roughly 20 miles round trip with 6k in elevation.
On the eastern coastal...

Corrections, it's hoh river trail.
And kalaloch is on the western costal part, not eastern.
Ocean shores is meh. A touristy town. I'd go on a weekend day if you do.
Aberdeen sucks. Sucks big balls. Don't waste any time there. It's only thing it ever did was produce Kirk Cobain. If you. Need to go through it, just keep driving. Ask any local around any place outside Aberdeen. You'll get the same response.
Also, if you drive through Bremerton, it's amazing...

take hwy 112 form neah bay towards joyce, drive through Pillar Point, Salt Creek rec area (nice campsite with direct adjacent access to strait of juan de fuca beaches), Striped Peak, Freshwater Bay. Then double back on hwy 112 just a few miles and, via olympic discovery trail road, *head up to the north shore of Lake Crescent* (beautiful lakeside /mountain scenery) . from there you can proceed east on hwy 101 to Port angeles.
FYI Ocean beach locations around oly pen can be sort of meh and take lots of time to get...

No.
Just having a lot of undeveloped space does not make a state /out/. AL has no compelling geography, no mountains no deserts no tundra no great forests. You have some tiny bit of coastline but it is developed.

I know a decent amount about mushrooms but I have a question.
I loosely inoculated a plot (by that I mean I threw some extra colonized jars in a plot) with some shiitake and it started to fruit some mushrooms. But whats odd is that they don't look like shiitake to me. Can anyone help me conform what it is?
I can't wait for my corn to come up! I planted like 60 seeds.
