#42- "Maine Schoolies" Edition
Previous Thread:

Mainebub is finally seeing some schoolies so he will be setting up camp on the waterfront soon. Fishing Generals are fill of male models, especially Skid. It was cloudy and stormy this afternoon by me, wish I coulda gotten to the lake before the rain but was stuck at work. Hopefully Miami anon got the rod and line today and will actually catch some fish unlike yesterday.
Tripfags gonna tripfag.
Talk about fishin'

Got a trip to Emerald Isle NC in a couple weeks. Any anons wanna give some advice? Been to the OBX have fished for Flounder, seatrout, and Red drums at the Oregon Inlet and the Jetty. Same tactics apply for bogue sound?
Im excited for some Saltwater. As a Kentucky cunt its only a once in awhile treat.
anyone here fish from docks and shore? If so any tips? we're kinda limited to the brush and how far we can cast. I'm not sure how to get an advantage out of it?
>>768534
get a kayak or canoe
>Larger area than Yosemite, Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon and Great Smokies national parks COMBINED.
>3000+ lakes
>30,000 miles of streams/rivers
>46% wilderness
Anyone been?

It's pretty beat up and the majority is privately owned, but good for an east coast state park
>>768347
Went backpacking there a few years ago. It's beautiful but the trails are definitely in pretty rough shape. Otherwise it's highly recommended for east coasters.
It looks fucking unreal on google earth, I guess I figured if it was so great you'd hear about it more.
As a denizen of the Pine Tree State, I pine for endless deciduous forest.
Am I the only one that can't stand warm weather? I'm curious as to whether people with this problem are just unlucky or if it gets better with time as you get more used to it.
>>768292
Same problem here, man. Glad I'm in Scandinavia, I'd prolly die in warmer places.
>>768292
Could be a number of issues. Are you properly hydrated? Poor physical shape? Overweight? Smoker? History of medical conditions or do you have any? How about your clothing? Breathable fabrics in extreme conditions can make or break you. Those all can be factors in why you're like that. Also if you work in an AC cooled building and you go out in to a 90+ degree area with high humidity it's a shock to your system. Keep yourself hydrated and make sure you rest enough so fatigue isn't an issue. If things persist...

Hiking in warm weather sucks. Period.
>roaming the Yellowstone wasteland as a vigilante/gun-for-hire à la Fallout
Is this the /out/ endgame?
>>767996
>breathe volcanic ash
>die horribly
There won't be anyone in the wasteland.

who would win the elections if this happened today?
Finally bought my first tent. Pic related, how hard did I fuck up?
It's gonna be mostly used for light weekend solo camping in spring and summer. I just wanted something small, practical, and simple to set up.
>>767400
How much was it?
>>767405
$45 but I paid $20 because I had a $25 gift card.
>>767407
You did great then. It's a little on the heavy side but you can't beat that for the money. Good ventilation, probably condensation won't be an issue, lots of space to put all your stuff inside.
My only advice is to be smart about the wind direction when fixing it. Think ahead since the wind changes during the day and night.
How do I make a good fire?
Pic related is two cardboard boxes and a log on top, with various sticks, doused in lighter fluid.
I want to know how to make one that will last. Pls help. t. A nerd
>>766378
There's old beans on the pan
Grab lots of tiny sticks, about as much as you can fit in your hand do it 2 times. Grab slightly larger sticks about as much as you can fit in your hand, do it about 3 times, grab a bunch of finger whidth sticks about as much as would fit in your hand, do it for 4 more times, grab a bunch of slightly thicker sticks, grab about as much as you can fit in your hand, do it 3 more times. Have a bunch of fire wood that is dryish. Pile the sticks with the smallest at the bottom and so on, trow a match at it.
If your sticks don't catch they ate either wet or not small enough....

for one thing don't build your fire sideways
Have you been in one of real significance?
Just experienced a 5.8 yesterday in Taiwan and the news is saying more are possible over the next couple of days. What would your EDC consist of for an urban area? Running out of building from the 8th floor was crazy. I experienced some 1-4 level earthquakes before but this last one.. this building was SWINGING.
Post stories, advice on EDC.
( not like pic.)
>>764262
Went through about 16,000 of them during the early ones in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2010-2011. A couple at 7.1 and 7.3 each. Couple of hundred killed in the big one, but nothing compared to Fukishima.
Experienced a couple of 4s when I was in Japan.
I'd want to have:
Mobile phone,
Torch,
Book,
FAK,
Couple of bottles of water and snacks,
Emergency blanket,
Gloves
>>764262
I was in Japan for the 2011 earthquake. Came near to losing my family in the tsunami. Had to camp in my car for three days. Make two bags/backpacks, one for home and one for the car. The anon who posted in 764328 has a good list of things. I'd add something so that you can charge your mobile phone. We have solar chargers and battery packs for charging here in Japan. I'd also throw in a change of underwear if you can. And don't forget a small radio - you can get news without running your mobile battery down.
What's for dinner tonight /out/?
Lemon butter, with thyme and garlic, baked salmon, green beans, and broccoli and cheese rice
>>763856
Tilapia fillet fried in butter seasoned with lemon pepper and breaded with Parmesan cheese. Then added some diced tomatoes and green chiles + paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and cumin to the pan and cooked until the liquid was gone.
Not bad really.
fried lake trout and potatoes

What's wrong with my pepper? Some of the leaves have spots like this and the tips of most leaves are broken or brown
>>762879
Bacterial leaf spot.
had a sleep study done last year after wife was scared i was suffocating every night, turns out I have sleep apnea
>inb4 fat ass
i'm not fat
So the doctor prescribed me a CPAP machine and holy shit it's like a new lease on life and now can't live without it.
however, i'm not sure what to do come camping season.who else /cpap/ here and what do you do when innawoods overnight?
it's not that i want to get a good night sleep. It's that i'm concerned my body is used to the cpap and...

They make mouth guards/pieces that are more effective than CPAPs, cheaper, safer, no noise, portable.
I don't really get sleep apnea. I guess I die (ie stop breathing) pretty much every night according to my wife but I sleep really well, wake up without an alarm between 5-7 every day, am active, really have no issues other than I snore a fuckton and stop breathing until I suffocate myself enough to wake up and repeat process, and run on sentences. I'm really good at those.

I think you might want to get a medical professional's opinion on that if you have not done so already...
>>762463
RRT and RPSGT here.
You do not die, whoever told you this is fucking stupid. Would you say you die just because you hold your breath?
You are right about the mouth pieces though. DO NOT get some gimmicky piece of shit you have seen on an infomercial (breatheright, sure sleep, zzypah, etc.). They will not correct OSA. They are for the treatment of snoring. Snoring =/= OSA. You can go to an AASM certified dentist or orthodontist to be fitted for a mandibular advancement device. Once you get used to wearing the device...

Can we have a good ol' fashion sleeping bag fag thread?
Post your comfy fap capsules, ask questions, recommend bags to the bagless, don't discuss wool blankets and we'll have ourselves a grand thread.
Wish I kept my REI receipt so I could try out different sleeping bags.
Oh well, my current one is OK and compresses really well.
Well, I have a Browning™ Yellowstone mummy bag. It's rated for 20ºF, although I wouldn't try to use it that cold without a pad or underquilt. I've been quite comfy in it on cots, in my hammock, and on the ground but if it's gonna be below like 30-40 you need an under layer for sure. I was hard-up for a new sleebin bag on short notice and went to my local redneck shop and they had this, so I bought it for about $90. My friends have MASSIVE ~10lb beasts that are impossible to carry, so I'm pretty happy with my 3lb bag. The thing I really love about...

I've got a UA running shirt and a Nike dri-fit running shirt.
The UA shirt seems to acquire and retain stains much more easily than the Nike. It also started to pill up where it rubs against backpack straps much earlier than the Nike.
When is this balding cunt gonna die already? He pretends to be an outdoorsman yet he doesnt do shit and he contributes to the nutnfancy groupthink of "big knives r gud durrr"
Who is this faggot?
Guys I have a problem.
I cannot enjoy camping any more. I am an Ausfag, Queensland specifically, and no joke I don't want to go camping because I am afraid some park ranger is going to come wake me up and demand to see some kind of permit.
I don't want to camp at designated spots. Right now I just want to go to Bribie Island (just north of Brisbane) and camp out on the beach and observe the stars. I don't even want to light a fire. Just set up a tent on the beach. But fear of having some ranger come round and tell me to either go to a designated...

I haven't been camping in this state for over a year and tonight is my perfect camping night but I cannot build up the courage to go out anywhere for fear of harassment from nosy people or rangers.
>>761016
Sucks to be you. Beach camping is my favorite. Here in Texas it is legal to camp on any beach not inside a city limit for free at any rate time. I really don't know why more bums don't do it. I drive down to the coast and fish all the time and just sleep in the bed of my truck. Ocean, stars, fresh fish, fire pit in the sand, and enough beer to kill a horse.
>>761040
I am often jealous of the Texan levels of freedom you enjoy. Australia very bad for going out and doing things. Literally everything is strictly regulated and policed. Think of any activity that isn't sitting inside watching Masterchef and paying taxes, and I will show you 50 different laws to fuck your shit up.
what are your experiences?
I was looking for a sleeping bag for winter.. the ones you can buy from army surplus shops are 100-150 $ cheaper than the civilian counterpart
also.. pic related.. these are made for russian mountain troops.. people owning them say that you can just wear a tshirt under them when it's 0 C / 32 F
they are also excellent windbreakers
would you buy? (they come with trousers too)
why settle for equipment made by the lowest bidder?
Everyone goes on about Gorkas. They're a meme here, and I've heard that they don't do well in extreme rainy weather.
>>755954
>and I've heard that they don't do well in extreme rainy weather.
they are water repellent not impermeable
Who /hiking with bae/ this weekend?

Does your wife's son enjoy hiking? I heard they don't.
I'm going turkey hunting with bae this weekend
