332 KB,
In the state for a couple weeks and plan to take advantage of the outdoors, nothing I hate more in camping than being a patch of dirt considered a site with families to my left and right. Any natives know some primitive spots I can head to for a couple nights, with a low likelihood of seeing any other people?

San Rafael Swell. Dirt roads in and out. Very remote. Beautiful red rock desert canyons. Miles and miles of hiking and biking trails.

I spent a little time in Utah over a few trips. My fave spot was Capitol Reef. There was no one there when I went (I think it was late March), but I'm sure you could find those figures.

Styrofoam is used on the space shuttle.

But coolers use the same thing. It's just contained under plastic so it would last longer

Aand i managed to post the picture upside down. Well, my bad!
>>
Damnit. Do you have many of those structures over there? I assume you live in Finland?

Where in Finland do you live?

I'm thinking about moving to Finland.
>>
Southern finland, and yes there are plenty of freely available laavus around. And they tend to be unoccupied for the trend of sleeping outdoors is declining imo. People just do day long powerwalks and cycling trips in spandex clothing.

You can just travel to finland, and still enjoy all the outdoors we have over here (thanks to the worlds best law, "jokamiehen oikeus", everymans right). In a nutshell, you're allowed to hike and camp temporarily wherever you want, even on private property.

503 KB,
So what are /out/s opinions on Quechua brand? They seem like one of those brands that are dirt cheap, but not because they save up on materials. Don't get me wrong, I have some good gear too, but I don't really feel like it's worth taking with for weekend drinking trips in the wild.

Also budget camping thread I guess... would love to know some other options except thrifft shop.

Yeah it's basically shit quality knock offs on 50% of the real deal, which is imo overpriced since in my experience they don't last half as long as the real brand equivalent. I'd rather buy even cheaper other off brands or milsurp shit for drinking trips. Only quechua stuff that is simple in design is worth its money, like ccf pads or cooking pots, microfiber towel, baselayers or maybe a tarp and stuff like that. Their other stuff is mostly over designed to look "technical" for the casuals, with...

What are /out/'s throughts on using machetes or kukris? Is there any reason to buy/use them outside the jungle and in a place like New England?

Who keeps making this thread, and why?

Sheddies and kukris are of limited actual bush use unless you have lots of slashing and slicing to do (i.e. a jungle or clearing prickers and brambles from your leachfield). A kukri has a little more chopping power but even then it's not a great difference from a heavy sheddy. Why is it so hard to discern which tools are and aren't right for the job at hand? Fuksaik

you could do that with a sheddy as well, it doesn't mean it's the right tool for the jerb. they're still better at slashing than chopping.

also i'll have you know i'm a black belt in Bando and have had extensive training in combat with a kukri so I'm quite intimately familiar with them. i certainly wouldn't take it choppin' if i had a choice.

Hey /out/, not a regular here but I didn't know where else to ask this simple question.

I want some kind of bowl like pic related to burn things in, kind of a little sacrament I'd like to do outdoors, pour some gas on a personal item and burn it for some catharsis.

Where could I find something like that and what should I use? Pic related was some shit on pinterest I found on image search so that's no help.

Also I figure some lantern fuel in a bowl like this is relatively safe outside, right?

>One of Zimbabwe’s largest wildlife reserves, the Bubye Valley Conservancy, recently announced that they must reduce their number of lions, currently at 500, by at least 200. This “issue” is being called “The Cecil Effect” by some, as the overpopulation is being attributed to the fact that trophy hunters are afraid to hunt after the uproar over Cecil the lion’s death at the hands of American dentist Walter Palmer.

Only Hedonists choose to kill animals, and they jsutify it through pure pleasure or terrorism à la ''if I do not eat meat I will die, I will Die !!!!''.
Those people are the lowest of the low. Picture is the ''argument'' that they create in order to feel good about themselves
>>
>>769054
I would say there is more at work here than overpopulation, given that Zimbabwe is in dire financial straits and is trying to sell off its other wildlife because they can't afford to buy basic food needs for their people.
>>
>>769068
That's been a big part of pro hunting arguments, the hunters bring in a lot of money to locals

With less hunters there is a lot less money for everyone around, a lot of these areas don't have a lot going for them in the way of revenue

For the summer of 2008 I slept rough in the small high walled back garden of an empty house being sold in a village in England.

That was the most peaceful I've ever felt and I could sit for hours in the overgrown weeds and vines and the sun with nothing in particular on my mind.

I lived off the bins of the two pubs and one corner shop in the village and the garden had a tap. There was a little lean-to for firewood I slept under on a few pallets.

I would walk all day in the Devon countryside, even got into two local festivals and met people from the...

Texan here. Took my dog on a 3 mile hike shortly after noon. Poor girl couldn't do it. We've gone way farther than 3mi before, but with that Texas heat and humidity I had to carry her the last half mile. Not to mention we blazed through my water supply.
