so i scored a marmot precip at the thrift store, but its lining is completely fucked. i figure i have 2 choices:
>duct tape patch
pros: this will be the cheapest way to get it back near its original capability
cons: lining will be like 25% duct tape, and at all the places i'll notice it most (collar, wrists, waist), heavy and lumpy
>strip out lining
pros: it becomes super light and packable
cons: it loses 90% of its rain resistance
i'm leaning towards stripping the pu lining and having...

Before attempting anything, test it. Put a tshirt and the jacket over and go into the shower for a couple minutes. Check if and where you got wet.
Now I would apply some seam sealer or give it a bath with nikwax. Or just leave it like that without trying to strip the lining because chances are you'll ruin it.
>>773244
thanks, but i think you're underestimating what i meant by "completely fucked". it's *completely* fucked-at least 15% of the polyurethane lining has already peeled off, leaving just the outer nylon layer, especially where it's really needed. like across the upper back and shoulders. a little seam sealer and waterproofing rehab won't accomplish much.
update bump
i put a small piece of duct tape on part of the exposed inside surface of the outer nylon layer. it's been there 24 hours, and a just pulled a corner up to check it out. it stuck well and hasn't left any residue. i think i'm going to leave it another 24, and if it still doesn't leave any residue i'm going to try rebuilding the polyurethane liner with duct tape. if i get it on okay i'm going to check the comfort (including with a loaded backpack) and if that goes okay i'll take it in the shower to see how it seals and how...

Anyone else have strawberries? I'm trying to find out if I used too much fertilizer (nitrogen). If the yield is normally in June even for everbearing, shouldn't I be seeing a few pop out by now?
anyone know where i can purchase gourd molds like this?
I never come to this board and after reading through many threads I have to ask this question.
Why does /out/ hate campfires?
>>769898
Fuck off
Crude, unnecessary, messy and dangerous.
No fun allowed.
I guess it's because it distrubs the landscape and people who light those up rarely clean their shits after they're done goofin around.
It can be real comfy tho

Hello /out/siders, didn't see a photography thread in the catalog, so I thought I'd make one.
Post your favorite snaps, anything goes as long as it's /out/-related.

Hey /out/
So I have always loved nature and loved going hiking but now I am thinking about turning this into a serious hobby. Anyone have any tips for me? Also, what are the appropriate hiking clothes to wear?
>pic related

> turning it into a serious hobby?
Might wanna explain what exactly you're trying to do? Are you looking into longer hikes or multi-day hikes (trekking)?
It's not that hard. Just walk some. Next time you walk further.
>>774980
Dogs are really cool hiking companions. Selecting the right breed is everything though
>>774981
yeah pretty much that, longer hikes and hiking in general more often.
So I bought the bivy layer from pic related and I love it. I really like the heavy duty construction. I wanted to get the whole system but after seeing how crappy the bags were I didn't. So here's my question, how hard would it be to to change the fill in a milsurp patrol bag to down? If not do you know of any quality bags that are a bit more rugged at the expense of weight and would work with this system?
>>774867
I spent 10 years in the army most of it as a sapper. I have spent 0f nights in just that setup. It works.
If you realy want down just replace the mid level with a down sack. Or the smallest level if you can find a down sack that light.
But the whole system works. It kept me alive on many an afghani hilltop.

Do you sleep under a groundsheet or just in the bivy?
Hey /out/
This coming weekend I'm planning on taking my gf on a camping trip, but it's forecasted to rain all weekend. She's not liking the idea of camping in the rain/possible storms. So do you guys have any advice to make camping in the rain half decent or should I just scrap the trip?
There is nothing better than falling asleep with water ticking on your tent/shelter.
Make a modest Fire with a place to sit dry and it will be cozy as fuck.

Lie to her and say weather will be perfect, pack her rain gear in your pack. If she dumps you then she wasn't worth it anyways.

So what should i do to get outside for the first time in years? I have national parks here, fields, seas.
But this seems all so dangerous, got any tips?

Previous Thread:

Is it Friday yet? These weekends go by way too fast, not enough time for fishing. Maybe I will get off work at a decent time one or two days this week and get out there. I doubt it.
Talk about fishin.
Props to anon for making this to help the new people out.

Catfish will go for anything dead or alive if it is sitting on the bottom. Half a bluegill, chicken livers, nightcrawlers. But my favorite is probably pic related. Grab a jar of dip bait, not that dough bait that comes in balls. And then get the dip bait rigs for like $2 or $3.
Tie up the rig, put a stick through the little tube on the rig, and coat it in dip bait.
Peps you finally posted a girl I would wife in a heartbeat.

>I wonder why braid doesn't dig into itself on spinning reels like that.
It does on my reel with 12lb braid, but you won't notice on cast. I've just noticed if I'm letting it free spool to get the lure to the bottom it's sometimes dig into itself.
Also, does anyone else thing meme caster give you more feedback related to sensitivity? I feel like the do, but maybe...

Like the title says, I'm a /out/ retard. I want to rent a cabin for a week with my m8 and some bitches. It needs to be somewhere on the east coast US, in the woods with some cool spots to check out. Does anybody have any recommendations for locations?
Somewhere up north preferably too
May already be booked, central Pennslvania adjacent to Cook Forest State Park (old PA lumber industry) - http://macbethscabins.com/
go hiking, tubing whatever....Not a huge forest but big enough to get lost.

What are the best parks to go /out/ in Texas?
My buddies and I want to do a graduation camping trip but were not sure where to go.
>pic extremely related
where in tx are you? how far are you willng to drive?
if you can make it to nm i suggest you go there.

we live in central Texas, and while we are willing to drive we wanted to keep like a Texas kind of vibe going. but thanks anyways man

>Texas kind of vibe
heh, when i lived there that meant loading up in my buddies k5 blazer with some metallica and a shitload of miller and jack and going mudding where they clear cut the swamps around houston for building tracts.
good times, good times...
but for proper /out/ you're probably screwed. sorry.
>long post inbound
So I don't get /out/ much but I figured this was the only place people might know what's going on or how to help.
Today I just noticed a small, white mushroom growing inside my White's tree frog's tank. It wasn't there yesterday when I fed and watered him, and I haven't been around all day, so it has to be new.
It looks kinda similar to pic related except it's tiny, its stalk is a whole lot thicker, and the head has a brown spot in the very center. Everything else is white as snow. I...

I'm no mycologist, but you should take a photo of it, then take a spore print. That would definitely help in identification for those on the board who know their stuff.
After that, if I were you I'd just clean and sterilize the tank and take a few extra steps in the process to ensure it's squeaky clean.
>>771926
>clean and sterlize the tank
I'll do my best but they say not to use cleaning agents when cleaning tanks for amphibians. Some reptiles are fine but amphibians, especially frogs, drink water through their skin so they're more susceptible to chemicals and chemical residue, especially chlorine in the water. I have to use special drops in his pitcher of water to eliminate chlorine and other shit, and when I clean the tank I have to use a hose then let it completely dry.
I have...

Oh and I forgot, there's this stuff called Eco Earth that's made of dried coconut shavings and shit that I use for the dirt layer in the bottom of the tank, so it's not legitimate dirt. There is one dead cricket and some frog excrement in there so I guess it could thrive if he splashes water out of his bowl everywhere. I just never thought actual spores would get in there, it's a terrarium.
Also, most of the decorations I keep in there have been in there for the entire time I've had him (washing...

it got archived a few days ago...
got my knockoff spyderco, not bad overall, but they made all the clip holes and only bothered to tap 1/4 positions

It got to a point that knife generals are meme tier now. We can have another one rolling but they're pretty much useless. It's all the same stuff posted ad nauseam.

but where else will I get strangers to recommend tactical, unrealistically-sized, fixed blades that I plan to intentionally abuse in ways they were not intended, while playing out in the backyard, so I can video tape it and upload it to youtube!?
