Hey /out/, Griptilian or Para military 2?
>>777231
Paramilitary 2 for sure. Great knife.
>>777231
Mini Gripi
>>777231
Para 2 for me. Both are great knives, though. I had a griptilian for a short while but I prefer the blade shape and feel of the paramilitary. Saying that I only got ny pm2 yesterday and have yet to use it so i hope it delivers haha
I was hiking a local trail when I came across a weird tree a while back. It had 2 lumps at the base and from that day forward I dubbed it the "balls tree". You don't notice it at all and it's about 20 feet from the trail, I found it by just hiking off trail. Well today when I was out hiking I noticed it had leaned over and I thought that maybe the ground saturated with rain water and it just naturally fell but as I looked at the base I noticed saw dust. At the base of the tree in the pic you can see the cut marks then someone piled moss over it to disguise...

those burls are highly sought-after by carvists, whittlers, and similar woodfærie faggots. kinda sad when they're unscrupulous enough to just poach them like that (i'm assuming they don't own the land)
>>776997
Occasionally assholes start threads here about doing this
There was one up just last month or so
Go get em
>>777002
did they even take the burl? are they in the process of doing so?

how do you grow pot guys?
>>776573
It simply isn't a room plant, it's better to place in a spot in the garden, or at least balcony if you have one.
In that case, freezing winter days may be a problem though because the pot might freeze through (planted out in the garden is not much of a problem because the soil only ever freezes a few cm max) but putting into the warm room then is also not ideal
I've never used a bivi but i'm enticed by the small pack size and relative simplicity of them. What's the pro's and con's of going /out/ in a bivi?
I was tempted to throw some cash down on a Rab Ridge Raider (pic related) because it looks so cozy and easy but then I thought perhaps I could just try a cheaper Alpkit Hunka to start with and take my tent fly along with me, which I could throw up over me in the event of rain (I dont own a tarp).
...but then why not just stick with my small 2 man tent as a whole?
>>775171
I want to go bivy for my solo trips because I want to travel lite, go farther, faster, easier. Pack weight just ads up too damn fast.
Most small 1-2 person "tents" still push +3 lbs.
Bivy is about the only way to get below 2 lbs from what I've seen browsing online.
I particularly kike the looks of that model in OP pic. the full length side opening looks awesome

Yes. The bears are doing just fine, and sport hunting is millenia-old and has aesthetic and cultural value. If you don't want to rail your mistress on a bear rug in front of the fireplace, you're a gay.
>>774961
What if I have sex with my big beefy boyfriend on a regular rug and we get a little rough to where he leaves a little skin behind on the rug, does that turn it into a bear skin rug?
There is literally nothing wrong with hunting
Does anyone here go hiking with historic food items for their provisioning?
I'm rather enamored with making hardtack, and would like to emulate a roman-style diet if anyone knows much about it. So far I am carrying wine, Meat, hardtack, and a smattering of fruit. Am I missing anything?
General discussion on the topic also welcome

A girlfriend.

Take a flesh light, cheaper and lighter weight
What's the best two person tent in town?! But seriously something from Amazon that I can order on Prime. Lets say a budget of $70. Also general suggestions on MUST HAVES (whether it be design, space, air holes, or the simplest of color) in a 2 person tent for you personally.
• Online Purchase
• $70 Budget

Bump with tents.
I took this pano today while on a short hike and wanted to share. Files too big for 4chins so I had to crop some of it out.
Also, general photography thread, since apparently there isn't one up.
Nice pic OP, but I have to pick a bone with you!
Perhaps my greatest pet peeve with /out is when someobdy posts a photo and doesn't tell us where it was taken.
Pleasant looking location. This is just a pic of some moss that I happened to catch when the light was hitting it just right. The picture doesn't do it justice, I'm afraid.
>>770877
Oh, sorry anon, I'm still somewhat new to the board. It was taken outside of Toronto, Ontario.
>>770910
I really like that pic, I find moss so pretty.
Any idea what kind of tree/plants these are?
It is in southern ontario. Just curious as the seem more or less unique to the are.
Bump for interest. I have no idea what they are.
>>782004
Looks like cedar, but I'm browsing on a 7" tablet and just opened my 3rd beer and I live in Toronto, so what do I know.
A sharp picture of the leaves would help.
>>782004
I want to say a dry pine tree, but that's not it.
I'm in Colorado, want to go backpacking this weekend. But I don't want to worry about camping on snow or even wearing yaktrax while hiking. Is there anywhere to find out where there's still snow? Is there any general information regarding when elevations at 10,000 feet are clear of snow?
>>781896
It depends.
Is there an organization that does trail maintenance in the area? Try contact them.
Otherwise, most people rely on trail/trip reports from other outists, usually on stuff like clubtread or summitpost.
Considering it snowed over 10k less than a week ago im gonna say theres still snow
>>781896
you can find info here.
I'm in Leadville.
we still have snow blocking everything above 11k. Snow patches in the shade between 10.5k and 11. Some roads in that range are still blocked.
below 10k it's almost entirely clear. Things are melting fast though.
Hippie communes, have anyone ever lived in one? How is life there like?
>>781831
1. Yes
2. Fine as long as you don't rock the boat by having any ideas of your own, you have to be part of the "group" or pretty soon you will find yourself out, hippies might preach love and understanding but they're still people at heart and they can get salty real quick when shit doesn't go their way.
If you can put up with the BS that comes from submerging yourself into a group it's actually pretty nice, but watch out for cults.
Go read up on them. And not just the hype, but people's experiences of the realities.
It usually ends up being shit because people think they can just come in and freeload off others, and that's not how communes work AT ALL. A lot of resentment usually sets in very quickly, followed by ground rules that start the process of it turning into something other than a commune.
Dont do it. Causey hippies are the fucking worst kind of people to be in a squat in the woods with. Call it a commune but thats what it is, a bum squat. Like the other anon said its fit in or get the fuck out and if you take a lady be prepared to be expected to share freely. Some of the most pretentious people ive ever met in my life have been communists. I would suggest snowbirding at slab city. Closest thing to a good commune in the states.
I'm starting to build a grilling shelter in my backyard. I am planning for it to have a roof and perhaps meter high walls for cozyness. In spirit like on the pic.
Grill is going to be in the middle of the shelter with a table around it for maximum comfort.
But what else should this grilling shelter contain? Any ideas?
I don't care about a smoking oven. Making a sauna is too large scale of a project.
Firewood storage chest is useful. A chest to throw empty beer cans into also is useful. Perhaps one corner should be made out of stone.
Any more ideas, guys. I would mainly use this grill shelter to drink beer with buddies and grill meat, sausages and shashlik. Perhaps you know more things to do when grilling.
>>781704
One of those mini keg fridges
How high are you gonna do the table? I think you should keep it low, like 18" or maybe a but more so you can have the low-slung patio chairs around it.
That's just what I would do. But thinking about it like that, I would prolly do the grill off to the side so people can sit in a circle. Depends if you will mainly chill there or have a fire pit nearby where you would hang out.
Sound cool though. I wish I had friends to hang out with in my beer shelter.
>>781745
Mini fridge idea is tempting, but the idea of having to install 200 meters of cable to power it kills that temptation. Although a place to store the beer would be quite useful. I ain't gonna put the beer on the table - who would want to drink warm beer.
I like the idea of it being low. That way the warmth of the fire reaches people sitting around it.
I planned to have the grill in the center because we usually sit around it, enjoying the fire when grilling.
>>781780
Yeah fridges pull some electricity too so you kinda want to do it right if you run electrical out there at all. If you can get a good deal on one of those big aluminum flip-top coolers, that could be semi-permanent there and look nice. It's no kegerator but will keep the beers cold.
The low seating is key though. Get an outdoor couch and a couple of those wide, low chairs. Sometimes they are wicker and have those cushions you can take inside when not in use.
Hey /out/, can anybody tell me what this stuff is that's growing in my tree? Or if it's a worm of some sort?
aerial roots maybe
>>781476
i'm no tree doctor but those look like aerial roots to me
Where do you live, OP? If you are in the tropics, it might be something like Camillea leprieurii, which is a type of fungus found on rainforest trees. Maybe something similar? Otherwise maybe aerial roots as other anons have said. But I'm no expert.
How do I get started into getting /out/?
Gonna need some more info there friend.
What are you interested in doing?
Where do you live?
What kind of investment are you willing to make? Time? Money? Space?
>>781330
I have all the time in the world
Not a shit-ton of money, but moderately enough
I live in Germany, North-Rhine Westphalia more specifically
What do you mean by space?
>>781333
>What do you mean by space?
Maybe you're interested in farming or growing plants. You haven't said what you want to do, so I'm trying to coax it out of you.
Okay so lets admit it we're all fucking gear whores here. Share what you've bought, why, and try and keep it civil guys.
I bought pic related because I 'needed' a new EDC torch. I already own a ZL 18650 light but it's too heavy and bulky for EDC, also doesn't have a clip. SC5 on the other hand is an AA light, and pushes almost 500 lumens from a neutral emitter which is suhweet.
>>781176
I bought that Fiskars meme hatchet
Needed quite a bit of sharpening when i received it, and the grip feels a bit odd in my hand, but it's still worth it for around $20.
i bought a map
Milfag here. Bought these cuz sitting in a foxhole for 3 days with wet feet sucks ass.
